Hello all, first post here. I have similar question too. Running the Dedicated server does work and browsing to "http://serverhost:9000/" shows details of the server.

However, as already asked by gwadagamer, how do you specify which cars (or class of cars) & tracks to host?

At the moment the Dedicated Server only acts as a rebroadcaster. It recieves the information from the clients and sends the information to all other players.
If the dedicated server has a good internet connection this will help very much on big grids.

To use the dedicated server you have to host a session ingame. At the moment there is no possibility that the server can selects a track or car.
To get this working, you have to add a commandline to your Project Cars steam configuration. (How to add a command line: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=116794507 )

Commandlines:
Searching for a free DS: -autods
Selecting a DS by its name: -searchds "(SUB)NAME_OF_DS"

If your DS is named "My super DS #1" you can add -searchds "My super DS"

If the command line thing is done, the DS is automatically selected if you host a session ingame.

Remember: Only the host of the session has to add the command line!

I get similar but I cannot see the server in the in-game online lobby. Is this Dedicated server application ready? Would like clarification (and help) please so I don't spend anymore time on it if it doesn't work. Thanks.

Here is what I get when running the .exe on a Windows 2008 R2 Server:

I posted my post above roughly the same time as yours apophis so didn't see your reply.

I thought and hoped this would be a "real" dedicated server application, one which we can run on Dedicated hosting PC's without the need to host in-game. Dedi servers which are always up irrespective of whether I'm in-game or not. Simbin's Race07 series and Game Stock Car have the right idea with Dedi servers. I'm sure most Community's would like to run dedi servers and allow selected members to Admin and moderate those servers. I always thought this is what "Dedicated Server" meant?

Yeah, I know what you mean.

The DS is still work in progress and most likely there will come more features for the DS.
I think the possibility to run the server standalone will come. But we have to be a bit patient. ;)

The DS in its current state is working really nice to help against lags and jumps with large grids where you get into problems with non-DS because the need of bandwidth gets higher with everybody joining.
We did a 50 laps race at Saikitto GP with 31 players on thursday :)
