View Full Version : AI too easy?

Hi got the game yesterday and played one race weekend in career mode ih formula rookie as I'm an open wheel fan. All assists off, AI set to 100. Qualified 1.2 seconds faster than 2nd....Ended up winning the 9 lap race by 13 seconds.

Haven't had the chance to play since because of uni exams. Is the AI really that easy as in all the pre release vids i watched they looked relatively competitive?

Or do they get more challenging one you start choosing Formula C,B,A etc.

Thanks

Actually 100% in the beginning of career is not really 100%. It's lower. Try 100% in normal race weekend.

Oulton Park in career... I'm far from quick my qualy lap was a 1:28.4 2nd was 129.6

I had the same experience. The AI are somewhat slow at the beginning of career mode. Try a quick race and see if your results are the same.

I think I once read that in the beginning they're about 80% of what you set as difficulty.

Bloody hell, really ? That's kinda dumb... I'm doing 26's in FRookie, I win by like 30 seconds... In Karts I lap the field.

What's the idea behind making the difficulty slider pointless then ?

MisterO
08-05-2015, 20:19
It's not pointless in general, the idea probably was that the lower classes have less experienced drivers.

And that everyone including the AI improves during the season.

LeveQ
08-05-2015, 20:40
Eeeeeeeeh.... Pretty sure a F1 driver wouldn't be 2+ seconds faster a lap than front runners in Rotax Max and the like, same for FFord/Clio/etc, although probably not as close :P

I beat the A.I. way too easy in the superkarts. From start to finish it's boring, and I can clearly see I'm going faster on the straights as well. Why would you create a difficulty slider that doesn't do anything, or a career mode that offers you no challenge?

baronesbc

with the old dtm is slow too, and very very aggressive, especially in braking.. they risk always the collision, sometimes even end up off the track trying to overtake the car in front. would be nice to have a slide for the aggressiveness and a higher level of difficulty to suit all

YDS55
09-05-2015, 07:33
That's not a solution, most of the time you drive in clear weather conditions.

also under rain it's the same, same livel of difficulty:

Okay good to know, the game is boring already because of the poor A.I. plus the fact you can't choose which classes you race against in multi class races, make this game not really worth my time. I hope they update these things soon.

try in rain

Slippery /=/ Hard

It's not exactly proper rain, or at least it doesn't feel like it so rain driving techniques don't apply.

AI is weird. Why is it that I crap all over them on 60(by 10+ seconds) but at 70 I can barely keep up? That seems like an extremely large leap.

Try 65%.

I'm finding the slider system and the AI very good, the AI for the most part are good strong racers very competitive without being bullies.

I think it's got a lot to do with how you play, I race like I would in real life I take my time hunt my overtake space and make the move, in karts I was dominating in road cars nah no so much, now GT4's I love it's pack racing all the way for until it rains then I'm struggling.

Karts = ace for me,, but other disciplines certainly vary.

If you truly are that good that your acing every discipline on 100 % hit the online leader boards show the top boys what your made of.

AI to easy?

Hell I had to dumb it down on Kart racing in carreer to 50.
But 50 is then to easy for me in Kart and 60... Well then I am struggling. Mind that is in Kart.
During dev I raced at 70-85% AI strenght and then I had close "realistic" racing field, but still a damn tough challenge.

Im in Caterham in LMP3/Prototype 2 in career mode, and race with real on driving assists and AI on 100%. So in Donnington I used 100% race distance which is 10minutt race, and won both race 1 and 2 with 10sec with standard car setup. So for me the AI is pretty differant in each classes/series. Ofc it can be little bit me not used to the cars in all series etc, but they gave a much better fight in Formula Rookie then LMP3...

Umer Ahmad

ALL the AI Donington are slow, it is a known issue (for WMD people) at that track only.

For AI strength testing I would suggest Dubai or Spa honestly.

If you can keep up with the GT3 AI @ 85% at Dubai and Spa you're doing good and probably can compete in the top leagues

My comment wasn't a dig, I was being serious. Natural progression from AI is real people.

If your really dominating the AI on ace at every discipline get yourself online and kick the top boys butts, this is why games have real players and real leagues for people to challenge themselves

QRW the AI is great for the most part and very competitive even at 75/80% but Career mode is a different story in the beginning.

Is that really true about career mode? If so It me makes really happy :-) . So far up until Formula Rookie WC, they have been ridiculously bad in terms of pace on Ace, no ass etc..

Very disappointing actually.

No, it's far from that. It was this way few months ago. Scaling is now much smaller. It's about half a second in the Clios @Donington for example.

Race one in career, Brit Formula Rookie, 100% AI, very easy win. They keep braking mega late (hitting you from behind often) and having terrible exit of corners.

I hope it isnīt the same with different tracks and cars.

I don't think that the AI is too "easy", I would like higher difficulties if that makes sense. If I remember correctly i had the AI set at ~85% for karts, 100% for super karts, ~90% for Proto2, and 100% for GT4 (which is the series I am now in). For the Practices and Quality sessions I do my own BoP (Balance of Performance) based on how fast I was for those sessions. In the GT4 series I have even closed my restrictor a bit to allow the field to keep with me (my last race for the U.S. Championship was insane! Wet start @ Laguna Seca, pole position, 2nd in championship, teammate trying to steal points, pit crew lost a wheel nut AND almost couldn't restart the engine. Came in 3rd and won championship by like 2 points. Crazy tense!) One thing that I noticed is that AI @ 100% is so mean! They will go for any size gap in every corner.
If anyone is blasting the field away, I suggest limiting your setup like adding fuel, lowering boost pressure, etc for the time being.

IIRC, the higher the AI level, the higher the aggression and "risk taking" levels. Personally, I prefer racing against AI on somethings around 85-95%.

There is no 65%, it goes up in 10s.

On the PC you can use the mouse to increase/decrease it by 1% or more. I find when I use my G27's left/right control pad buttons instead it changes by 10%.

I just got the game and I found with a few hours of practice, I can finish in the podium in the 125cc karts on quick races with 100% AI. I hope the AI difficulty can get reprogrammed eventually because even at 100% they go too slow on certain parts of the track that are good overtaking spots. I look forward to driving cars with brake lights soon because it is annoying to ram into the back of a kart I am chasing at where I identify to be good overtaking spots.

The AI lines on some of the tracks are being re-visited as well as other changes. You can see some of the recent talk here:

I want a realistic race, not a sort of strange chellenge. my ultimate goal is not the win, just compete with pilots of the same level, as in a real race. no sense starting from the last position to overcome pilots much more slow, imho

Apologies if already answered, but are there any plans to allow 1% incremental adjustment of the AI on consoles, just like the PC version?

Roger Prynne
06-06-2015, 11:31
I think Ian said it would be 2% increments in a patch.

Don't know... but I think he said it in the Patch 1.4 thread.

80% is my max if I want to win the championships. Started at 50 though hopefully get to 100 sometime but I'd say far from easy imo.
