Hi guys, just wondering if the limited edition dlc is for career only?

It's available for everything.

In career I believe there are a few extra Invitational (one-off) events that use them. There is no restriction to using them in Free Practice, Quick Race Weekend (QRW), or Multiplayer. They may occasionally be featured in Community events as well.

Digital versions of the game (Steam, PSN, Xbox Store) include all 'preorder' bonus cars regardless of when you make the purchase.

Wonder if you don't own the DLC if you can still join races which feature them? Would mean you'd have to have them downloaded right?

Can't confirm as I have everything, but the 2 standard approaches are to either have all the content downloaded (patches, etc) and the DLC code unlocks selecting the vehicle (likely used here), or having a 'generic car' shown in place of the DLC car.

No, its possible to join then, but on loading it will lead to an error.
