View Full Version : PS4 AI Cars Not Affected By Changing Weather Conditions

One huge issue for me is that the AI cars can lap the same times in slicks when it is either sunny or in thunderstorm conditions! When the weather changes during a race, it causes me to either have to pit in, or 'tip toe' around for the remaining few laps, whilst getting overtaken by AI cars who are putting in quick laps on slicks whilst in heavy rain conditions.

This is one of only a few issues, which make options such as career mode impossible to play and impossible to enjoy!

Are you sure it's not car dependent? I only ask this because some cars don't have wet tires available, just general all round tyres that would be available for it. Road cars anyway.

I'm doing career in GT3 with the RUF-8, and in this championship all tires are available, including intermediates and wets. I race on 90 difficulty with the controller, and as an example round brands hatch, on lap 4, i went from 5th to 15th in half a lap, because the car became very difficult to drive as you would expect on slicks in the wet. But all of the other cars seem unaffected by changing weather conditions, so passed me with ease.

Hmmm, fair enough. I haven't noticed it myself yet but then the only race I've been in so far in career where I've been on slicks and it started to rain was in a Historic GT race at Donington. I was in the Zakspeed Capri. It was only 4 laps though so I didn't really have to ease up until the 4th lap when it got noticeable. Can't really say whether they were affected. They didn't seem to gain anything on me though.

Hey,
I have the same Problem. The race starts at sunny conditions and then it begins to rain, I have massive problems to hold the car on track while the AI drives on as if its still sunny. There is no chance of holding the position and I lose a lot. It's the other way round too, starting in the rain and then becoming sunny, my tires overheat extremly and I'm just sliding around, while the AI has no such problems. These problems happen in a race and even in qualifying.

I too have seen this issue on XB1. I was doing the BMW M1 Invitational champ (on 100% AI and 100% race length) and at Zolder (2nd race - 8 laps) The race started in Sunny conditions and I was able to open up a 5 sec lead until lap 5 when the thunderstorm hit. I stayed out until end of lap 6 but had to pit as my lead was down to nothing. I cam out in last place expecting to then close on the field and re pass them when they all pit but not 1 AI car did and I finished last!!

This is something that needs to be looked at as this means that having changing weather conditions in the career is pointless!!!

I've had the same issue during a race at Silverstone, but the today I did a race at Monza, qualifying was very wet and then when the race started the conditions were changeable, no rain but a damp track, at the end of the first lap almost all the AI cars pitted, I just carried on and won the race. By the way this was a sprint race so no compulsory pit stops.

This a fact, the A.I. still driving around with heavy weather if nothing is going on.

had exact same issue. Im sure the bugs like this will be ironed out its early days

The same thing happened to me in in Formula C. Started raining with 5 laps to go. I pitted because I couldn't possible put in half decent times in the rain. No other car pitted, and they were all running good times.

Also, I changed to intermediates, the car had more grip in the wet, but the tyres still looked like slicks.

Had the same thing last night. 13 lap race @ Brands Hatch Gt4 car rain on lap 10 lost all 20 places + 5 sec leader.
I was only lapping 2.5 sec slower in rain :(:(

This definitely is an issue. I'm sure it will be fixed but yep, racing against the AI is absolutely pointless with changing weather conditions. But that is by far not the only problem, concerning AI-drivers..

Just choose "Automatic tire by weather" option.

I've seen the same thing numerous times. I love the game, but this does make the races seem unfair.

That's a career killing bug. Hadn't run into it yet, but disheartening for sure. What a lame ass way to break one of the only components and the main one in your game. Stuff like this is why people don't preorder games. Must be fixed. Can't have a meager online offering and then break an important career component. Major flaws IMO. I get that AI can't handle a large multi class event without freaking out and driving like idiots, but this kind of thing should be unacceptable.

This plus the fact if an AI Driver takes to the Grass/Dust/Dirt they are seemingly unaffected by it.... My car will lose traction / speed and I am lucky if I don't spin out if I do end up off the track but the AI can sail on through, straightline any corners in the way and appear in front of me!

2 other annoying things for me is 1, Sometimes when an AI Driver collides with me I get stuck to them like glue and can't shake them off! and 2 If I run wide my car gets attracted to the Grass/Dirt etc... but If the AI goes slightly wide onto it they can continue as normal with no problems... similar to above!

I did Clio Cup Oulton Park race and I've experienced the same thing. AI cars are like magnets, you follow them off the track as soon as you get hit. And nothing affects them when they go off track i.e. rain, grass, mud.

Just had the same problem again on a GT career race. Started first, stayed first until it started raining. Went from first with +10s advantage to 14.

me too, right from the start I couldn't keep up with AI cars in the rain. Also noticed they're unaffected by bumps and going off track.

Yeah I won't repeat all I've said in other threads but the Ai and how they seem invincible to rain, storms, kerbs and going off track needs fixing please.

It's because the AI drive with many assists. They cannot make a decent lap without it, I doubt anyone's talking about a fix, because they can't most likely. I forgot that GTurismo was same way, as our most AI opponents. They need the assists to keep up with us, not sure how GT managed to integrate rain vs AI and not break it but they did. But you use to have to change tires in GT for rain, might have something to do with auto select tires or something and the tire model. But I am at least sure the difference players are seeing is the AIs use of assists.

my question is: are AI drivers on slick tires under a dry weather spot hair dryer when the "human" player is racing in rain? (no matter if rain little or a lot!!? always seems to like I am driving on ice and AI just hammers along and passed me with no effort at all...)

and not to bore u guys more, agree wit all above, nothing more to add. AI driving like with magnetic rails and pullys...magnetic levitation? lol

AI and I spun out into the grass. AI turned and drove off as though it was still on the road while I was driving in quicksand. Pretty hilarious for a second. Annoying the next second.

Can confirm, AI is stone cold killers, and nothing can stop them. Heck they took over my car during an online race and decided it to drive itself. Read my thread: http://forum.projectcarsgame.com/showthread.php?25577-CAR-DRIVING-ITSELF-AFTER-PIT

Yes I've seen this very recent, if it starts raining during a race and my pit window opens, I've made the decision to pop some inters on if there's around 3-4 laps left, by the last lap, when clearly the wet weather has set in, rivers all over the track, yet the ai remain on dry Tyers and simply just pull away, would be nice if they sorted this because I felt quite clever when I pitted before anyone els but then fell flat on my face when they just continued to drive as though it were dry haha.

You were quite clever. Pull your face off the ground though. This is a known issue that will be patched........ Sometime.

Stay clever my friend

A five second lead with AI at 100% using a controller is some good driving.

The AI drivers are faster than me under wet conditions and on the grass??? Have they hidden turbo or do they use Nitro with "magnet" tyres?

I've 'shelved' devoting anymore time to playing the career because of this AI/rain issue. The only current workaround, at present, appears to be immediately exiting once you see rain and then restarting with the AI difficulty turned down... However, minus the restart, in doing this I feel that I'm doing the work for the game codes missing AI algorithm. Talk about an immersion breaker. I hope that SMS can fix this.

I'm afraid you are wrong my friend, this game will need to be patched as it's simulation model for how Ai cars react to heavy weather is broken. Check out this video, 3 lap race in a 900bhp Lotus F1 car, I take 1st place and cruise into a healthy lead, it starts raining, the entire field is on slicks, my car becomes undrivable but if I pit I will come last as no one else pits but you'll notice how the Ai cars are unaffected. I'm using ABS and Traction control in this car as it is tough, for me, to use without. Apologies for the rubbish driving I was in the middle of sorting out the set up for this car.

Very good point, as well as getting stuck to other cars. I did a race in a Mk1 Escort and I kept getting flipped when colliding or an AI collided with me!

This issue is not just for PS4, they certainly don't seem to be affected by rain at all on PC either.
