Im torn between the standard cockpit and the helmet cam. I love the helmet cam's depth of field effects, but kind of miss the clarity of the display for speedometer etc.

50/50 for me!

I use helmet cam without the helmet and the DoF effect. You can switch them off (Options - Camera - Advanced).

Its 50/50 here too. I have no special car that I feel its better with cockpit vs helmet but its more about the combination of car and track that decide. :)

In-car view usually, for the instrument displays. I honestly feel a 'bonnet cam/hood cam' is more of a realistic view for what my eyes are seeing on a real track though ;)

I always used to drive in bonnet cam. But now I use cockpit, zoomed in (CTRL-K + W) and widened FOV. And instead of the HUD, I use the pCARS Dash app on my phone. So my screen is completely uncluttered, bit of interior but still enough vision. Because imo, just interior cam in GT/LMP cars provides way to little sight around the car.

Mainly between Helmet and Cockpit but on rare occasions on Practice mode I pull out to Chase Cam to enjoy how good the cars look and for nostalgia , as when I started gaming on consoles you only got a choice of 2 Chase cams and a Bumber cam with racing games , lol .

Agree with bonnet/hood being more realistic view of what you see from the cockpit in real life. Helmet cam looks cool but it seems a little off. I'm using hood cam.

Other than that I've been using roof cam to learn unfamiliar circuits. You get a really nice view of the upcoming corners with the increased elevation, but still feel connected to the car.

The lens tint on the Helmet mask while in Helmet Cam doesn't get disabled when you turn off the Helmet mask currently. Why it appears darker.

I use cockpit cam in single player and hood/bonnet for multiplayer. I find the hood/bonnet view with virtual mirror gives me the best visibilty for keeping things clean, tidy and professional.

UPDATE: I'm now starting to drive in cockpit mode almost exclusively.

Yeah this is somewhat annoying. Loving the Helmet Cam with Helmet disabled, Look to Apex Enabled, World Movement and G-Force maxed out and FOV set to about 50. It's just a shame about the tint as the colours are less vivid and with that FOV I can't use my mirrors.

But the tint is really annoying.

Hood cam is amazing for speed sensation.. And the roof cam is great to on some cars. But the only cam which gives me the feeling I actually drive a car is the helmet cam. So I use that one the most, despite the lack of speed sensation.

Anyone with a decent size monitor (I have a 32") should try the stuff in this thread http://forum.projectcarsgame.com/showthread.php?33278-Can-you-setup-the-FOV-like-this-in-Project-Cars

Seriously I can't believe something so simple (and free) can make such a massive difference!

To answer the question, helmet view, no world movements.

Static cockpit view. Although the moving camera is fancy, it's just not exactly where I would look when I'm driving the car, so it's very confusing.

I laughed out loud at the "hood view more realistic" comments :) Don't get me wrong,if thats your prefered view,go for it but i'm pretty sure last time i sat in my car i could see the dash, instrument cluster and the top of my steering wheel?so in that case wouldn't you say cockpit cam is more realistic?not the hood view,i couldn't imagine how uncomfortable it would be to take my head off and put it on the dash of my car all squished up against the windscreen haha

And some people have those things (a wheel, gauges etc) IRL on their rigs and so having a copy of all that stuff on screen is less real than treating your monitor as the windscreen ;)
No need to mock peoples preferences.

Haha nobody mocked anyones preferences mate :) re-read and think about it,i was simply pointing out it's technically not the "most realistic" in terms of camera placement, hence in this game why you can turn the wheel off(as i do cause i use a wheel)and adjust seat position and field of view,so all you do see is the top of the dash and out out the windscreen, but your assertion i was mocking was so very far from the truth :) have a nice day :)

If the screen was my eyes, well yes i did see all that,if i sat in my car and reached forward my hand would be on the dash, the way i have my field of view and seat position setup in game, when i sit in the seat in my rig and reach my hand forward,my hand is on the "virtual dash".

Are your eyes a very limiting rectangular screen though? My point is, what's more or less realistic isn't that black and white. You can also consider it so that what you see on your monitor is what you'd see through your windscreen, as they're both (usually) rectangular screens some length forward of your eyes. In that sense, the hood view gives you the view closest to realism. Sure, you're missing the car's own tacho and speedo and the AC buttons and whatever there is, but who looks at those when racing anyway.

Love the cockpit views... The only now very minor niggles I have with the game are...

I feel the ability to glance sideways in cockpit view would allow you to better gauge close racing when others are trying to overtake and the side issue of the here today gone tomorrow nature of the engineers commentary

... Otherwise this is now a spectacularly wonderful game... And patch 2.0 hasn't even landed with us in xboxland yet!

Hello fellow drivers.

I am very interested to know what is your preferred viewing position when driving.

I'm on the bonnet, as it is, for me anyway, a very clear view. I would rather sit behind the wheel for realistic reasons, but sitting there hinders my view. I have tried moving the seat forward and up, but I still have view problems. I know the answer is sit where you feel best, but I wonder what others prefer.

I picked bumper cam because I assumed you meant bonnet cam for that one - the other higher up external view is roof cam not bonnet cam. I tried them all and wanted a clean view but one that was normal driver eye level so I didnt get an advantage seeing the track layout ahead and the bonnet cam for me was the best one. But I occasionally try the whole car and the driver views as well.

For closed vehicles I always use First Person View because I love to be in the seat of the car and driving them.
For open wheelers though I use the T-Camera depending on the car I'm driving, for the Formula Rookie I simply can't get used to the position, and generally I feel I don't see enough of the track in front of me to be able to see where i'm going. The camera on the t-section is much better in giving me a better view of the track.

Hence the new 2017 regulations which place the cockpit much higher. Check out some onboard footage. You can't see over the fenders at all.
