View Full Version : Drift setup and tuning?

I am primarily interested in drift and have been using Assetto Corsa which is awesome in large part due to the fantastic modding community. I do drift irl and have a rig with motion setup in an attempt to replicate this as closely as possible for off track/road practice.

I have only dipped my toes in P cars and with Jack Spade's and other guides have discovered how fantastic Pcars can be with a little bit of work. So will it drift? Well I intend to find out and hope others will jump in and share car setups and tuning to accomplish this.

I havent found good setup yet but Mercedes 300SEL feels very good drift car for me even with default setup. Only problem is that i cant hold big angles with it and dont really know what to do with setup to fix that.

i am searching for the right adjustments to, i found a guy on YouTube but he speaks French:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H9vyoitrlmQ

English:
Force feedback 85

Zonda Cinue roadster
tyre pressure /front 2.10 bar /rear 2.32 bar
tyre compound Pireli P Zero
Brake pressure 81%
Brake balance 31%
Steering ratio 9.0:1
Fuel load 10 liter

BMW 1-Series M Coupe
tyre pressure /front 2,33 /rear 2,50
Brake pressure 80%
Brake balance 29%
steering ratio 10.9:1
Fuel load 10 iter
Tyre choice ( i choose track )

It worked for me, now i need to hold the drift and control it! :)

It will drift indeed, I have a set up, will share later, that makes the BMW 1 drift like Bambie on ice. However, the trackes is the problem, there is to long between the turnes...

All depends on the cars at the moment to get the right drift setup, I have been using caterham R500 and the Atom they both seem to be good for drifting and only need a few minor tweaks on the tuning setups to be absolute tail happy, let me know Iv anyone would like me to post the tuning setup I'm using as there doesn't seem to be many about at the moment.

Yes please...can you both share your settings/setups? Wish they would include more "drift" cars like:

Toyota Supra MkIV (RZ, SZ-R)
Toyota MR2 (SW20, (T-top please))
Nissan Silvia/200sx
Mazda MX-5 (NA)
Mazda RX-7 (FC)
Maybe even a Honda S2000 (9k rpm, yo!)
The Honda NSX is also always welcome

The problem I've been having is finding that the handbrake does nothing on certain cars.

I can use the Scandi Flick and E-Brake techniques but could never clutch kick  so now, I can only use one method.

I hope it's a bug but I'm not counting on it. Can anyone else let me know if they have the same problem?

I'll also be happy to share my tunes if anyone's interested?

How you drive kart tracks with other cars than karts?

Lol i thought it was possible!

I can maybe generate some basic and advanced setups but given that we don't have drifting tires it'll be more like power slides or fighting oversteer (maybe excessive too)

Edit : which car you guys want a setup to potential be drifter?

Could you make setup for Mercedes 300SEL?

there it is, as much as possible. its tought cuz it doesnt have much torque or power. but at least in slow mid corner you can maintain slides or drifts :)

put Diffs accel and decel locks all to the left.
break balance 35 to rear, bias 44 to rear.
final drive all way to left or mid.

I didnt really see much drifting there in your video.. and I dont know how you ever could drift sitting behind the car with the cam staying aligned with the tail, I'd think you need to sit in the seat... (cockpit)

I get my new wheel today, and am going to make my shifter and clutch setup as soon as my joysticks arrive and then will have a go at drifting. Playing PC with a PS4 controller just feels shitty. My old wheel broke. : ( I have yet to find a game that was even close to as fun as Live for Speed, have been playing that one since 2003. Would love updated graphics / cars / sounds to go along with the slidessss.

The trouble i have with drifting is not brake/shift lock drift and scandinavian flick but catching the car afterwards you are done drifting without it kicks itself into a spin is way harder..

You can control. Just need a good throttle control.

Just did a video - EDIT https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MbfWE-VOJLg&feature=youtube_gdata - With the Mercedes Benz 300SEL 6.8 AMG - Did some tune up to get the thing to slide.. but the important is that it is
good to drift with, got power within the revs of 2-3 gear and i have succes of getting around Oschersleben GP with drifting and doing multiply drift
as the track shift directions..

My setup (if i haven't mentioned some changes, then it's stock ;) :
Brake Pressure: 100%
Brake Balance: 40%
Longitudinal Weight bias: 42%
Steering ratio: 10.5.1
Front Camber: -3.0
Front Toe-in: +0.2
Front spring rate: 135nm
Rear spring rate: 40nm
Front swaybar: 20nm
Rear swaybar: 0nm
LSD Accel: 60%
Front bump stop: 0mm
All left settings:
Front slow bump: 3950nms
Front slow rebound: 7000nms
Front Fast bump: 3950nms
Front Fast rebound: 3000nms
All right settings:
Rear Slow bump: 11500nms
Rear Slow rebound: 16000nms
Rear Fast bump: 5350nms
Rear Fast rebound: 5000nms

Good stuff. I am waiting for that video :).

Btw I wonder why do you have front spring rate higher than rear spring rate as it counter oversteer but creates understeering. And for sway bar rear you have also to understeer. Is the cars power enough.

OK fellow G27 drifters... I gave up on drifting in Project cars due to my lack of knowledge when it comes to setting up cars and the lack of setups/tutorials for cars available on the internet for PCars...

Thanks to the DLC containing the Mazda Mx5 "Radbull", and setup I finally found, things have changed! I have now have a easy drift setup going with my g27.

I drifted for years on LFS and GT6(ps3) on g27 and got into assetto corsa. This setup is by far the closest, easiest to control setup for drifting similar to said games. Its very fun you just need to go easy on the throttle and i have to set my wheel to lower degrees rotation around 540 for it to feel right.. For those of you with a G25/27 and don't know this... its very useful. There are some secret button combinations you can press to change your wheels degrees of rotation. https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/g27-g25-dfgt-undocumented-wheel-lock-settings-guide.286646/ or google "Undocumented wheel lock settings"

I'm not sure if i can link other websites here but im just gona do it anyway because im lazy. Use this setups for the Radbullor google projectcarssetups . eu
