First and foremost, congratulations to SMS and WMD for making an exceptional game, all things aside, the game is fantastic, it's beautiful in terms of graphics, the sounds are spot on and the day/night and weather cycles and effects are very very good. The controls issue that everyone has mentioned, I have managed to find a good setup that works for my driving style across most of the different classes with the exception of 125cc karts. I usually have to change my speed sensitivity but apart from that the control scheme I have is good. If anyone wants it, please let me know.

I do have issues in terms of graphics and FPS/Lag. On most of the tracks that I've raced on, when I come into a turn and get onto the brakes the game seems to slow down and go into a slow motion sort of effect, going through the turn and accelerating out of the turn the game suddenly jumps and speeds up. All of this has been noticed in the Career menu, Time Trial, Practice and Quick Weekend seems to be okay but the only Quick Weekend race I've done is Silverstone National with Clio Cup, 12 laps and 32 cars. No problems what so ever. Loved it. Very competitive and I can throw the Clio into the corners and the handling is lovely!

I have installed the game on my Western Digital 4TB USB 3.0 External HD, I don't have any issues with any other games, just with this one. I am going to try to move the game onto my internal XBox One hard drive which should make things a bit better. Anyone else got the same issues?

A massive congratulations and pat on the back for the devs though. I know they're getting a lot of stick for the problems but they have made a very good game. I for one think it has MASSIVE potential to be a top contender in the racing genre. Hats off to you guys, you deserve all the good praise you get! It's not going unnoticed, at least from this gamer!

This is looking to me like an issue associated with your external hard drive. We have specific read speed knowledge of internal kit but external is a whole new can of worms.

Regardless, we're looking into it and sourcing the specific kit you have.

I have mine installed to the external hard drive too and haven't encountered that issue. Is this when playing single player or multiplayer?

Thank you for your reply and congratulations to you and your team! I'm going to move everything over to my internal hard drive and report back, theoretically it should be better :). No doubt you guys will fix all of the problems soon enough. It's an amazing game.

Hopefully you guys have something in the pipeline for WTCC, DTM, V8SC or BTCC style cars ;). You'd make this fan extremely happy if anything like that got introduced!

Single player only buddy. I've only noticed it in the Career mode, I was racing in RTC1 with the 1M but I also noticed it with the Ford Escort RS Cup at Sonoma. I rarely play online, I don't have the skills to keep up in brutal honesty!

This will be invaluable feedback, so please don't forget! As it stands we're struggling to reproduce this internally, on either dev or retail consoles.

I will report back this evening! I get home from work around 6 so I'll kick off the transfer around then and play around for a bit and get back to you :).

Andy , Ian, are you aware some of these bugs are present on PC also?
(It could help in solving them)

I've tried the reinstall. I've reinstalled it twice now and it's still doing the same thing. Currently transferring it from External HD to Internal HD and will report back.

You need to be more specific Goose.

I've made a thread in the console bug reports on the WMD forum where i've tried to collect the issues which i have seen on PC which appear to be the same we see now on Xbox.
I thought it could be of help.

(In case you were already keenly aware of them i'd appreciate if you could mention that, i find it hard at times to know when something is noticed.
I actually like to contribute and i would not like to be "that guy" which is always crying wolf... which i would appreciate being made aware of if such were the case).

Thx

So, after moving the game from my 4TB Western Digital External HD to the Xbox One Internal Hard Drive, first thoughts are that the lag/slow motion sort of effect has been reduced (I tried on both Sonoma and Oulton Park where the lag/slow motion bits were and it has indeed reduced). I only really noticed it when using the bumper camera.

But I have noticed that moving around the options menu and changing settings and then saving those settings has slowed right down. I then did a hard reset of my Xbox (i.e. holding down the on/off button for 5-10 seconds) and lost my career progress :(. I guess this is my own fault but no biggie, I only completed one season of 125cc Karts although I had to grind through it due to the controls but no biggie, I'll do it again and start a new career.

If every time we do a hard reset, one is going to lose career progress, then that is a real problem.

I have experienced this effect on Career mode and Private Lobbies. It happened a few times when the other cars would slow down then 'zoom' ahead. I put it down to a little lag but I can't see why it would do it in Career :chargrined:

The save files are stored in the cloud, there might have been an issue with Xbox live and it did not download them (unless you manually deleted the save files from the console, I am not sure if that also clears the cloud saves).

Yeah, I know they're stored on the cloud as well as locally on the console, I closed the game down by going back to Xbox Dashboard, pressing menu, then quit, like I do most of my games, then did a hard reset, turned the console back on, went into career and crashed straight back to the dashboard. Did this about 2 times before I realised to go into the Load/Delete menu and saw that my career progress and accolades were blank or reset to 0.

I then decided to just start again. I lost my local save on Forza Horizon 2 once but I did a hard reset while still in the game so that was my own error. Strange why I lost progress this time. No biggie anyway. Barely any progress, so not bothered.

Mine is definitely in career mode, a little bit is there on Quick Race Weekend as well but not majorly since I moved it from the External HD to Internal HD. It doesn't happen as much compared to when the game was on External HD but it's still there.

I should also add that using default controls makes the game unplayable for me. I've scoured the net for someone elses control setup, then worked off that to fine tune it for my own driving style.

There is a patch coming out for the controls right? This is all done on a Xbox One Controller.

Thought so, just wanted confirmation :). With my custom setup the game is amazing :). No complaints at all from me apart from the lag/slow mo thing, that's all.

Generally 4TB drives use a 5400rpm spindle speed - I have seen some users reporting much better success when using smaller external drives that run at 7200rpm. A 5400rpm drive will be about on par with the internal Xbox drive.

Not sure what the speed is but I have this one: http://www.shop.bt.com/products/wd-4tb-my-book-usb-3-0-desktop-hard-drive-913P.html?utm_source=google&utm_medium=ppc%20product%20search&utm_campaign=PLA%20|%20Shopping%20|%20All%20Products&gclid=CjwKEAjwycaqBRCSorjE7ZewsmUSJABWzM54NV-oxm2ukbLTdUwEmwXDDIl4xUBGGp8pqMUc1lBaJRoC4BDw_wcB

It made sense to pay extra and get 4TB rather than 1TB or 2TB. Price per TB made sense.

5400 rpm

Thanks. The game seems to go in and out of the menu's faster on my External Hard Drive than on the Internal XBox One Hard Drive. Care to explain that one as by what you said it shouldn't be the case?

There are two bottlenecks related to the hard drives, the first is the RPM (read/write speed), which influences how fast the data can be loaded, and the second is the connection from the hard drive to the console. The USB 3.0 for an external hard drive is faster than the internal hard drive which uses SATA II, 5 Gb/s versus 3 Gb/s.

A solid state drive is the fastest but the USB 3.0 connection throttles it and reduces the effectiveness of it. You can thank Microsoft being cheap not using SATA III, which is 6 Gb/s. They could have also put a SATA III port on the console instead of only USB 3.0, for faster external hard drives.

I don't really think that is ultimately to blame though, because PC games have much shorter load times with the same or equivalent hardware.

Edit: Be aware that standard hard drives have a read/write speed that is slower (about half) of the SATA II transfer rate, so you should not really notice a difference between internal and external. I would imagine that it happens because the console is running other things in the background on the internal hard drive and that causes the slower performance.

There will always be some variations in read and write performance across different drives, even if they are rated at the same spindle speed. You may be unlucky and have a particularly slow Xbox drive, and lucky to have a particularly quick external drive. Heck, I have identical drives in some servers that perform wildly differently from each other, and even matched SSDs that report varying speeds.

At the end of the day, if it has improved things for you, then that is what matters.

Nothing but the game was running, slow motions and lags in the single player have reduced but it's still there, going in and out of the options menu is much slower. This is a result of moving from external to internal. It has improved to an extent. I don't really go into the options menu much anyway but the slow motion/lag effect in the game plays tricks with my mind and often causes me to lose control! I'll be waiting for this patch but loving the game so far. Controls are my only big issue at the moment.

Have you tried to hard reset the console since moving the game to the external hard drive?

Yes, tried hard reset with both internal and external install.

The game is currently installed internally as per devs instructions.
