View Full Version : Best tuning setup for Lotus 98T Renault Turbo (post cars you want me to tune)

I have noticed that a lot of people have been having trouble driving the monster that is the lotus 98T. so after pretty much a day of fine tuning I have come up with what I belive to be the best tuning setup for the car, although I would not recommend taking part in an endurance race with thissetup as the wastegate pressure is too high and also the fuel tank isn't as full as it could be. This setup was created using a controller so if you are using a wheel you may have to tweak some settings.

As I am rather board with the carrer mode I thought I would try help some of you out, so if there is a car you want me to find a great tuning setup for post the car name, what kind of racing you take part in e.g endurance, sprint etc below. I hope this helps you guys out.

Interesting!

I think the trickiest thing I've found so far is getting some of the MR cars nicely balanced for lively cornering as a lot of them just have so much LSD lock that they become kind of locked to the track and rather dull. So how about the McLaren 12C GT3 please. For sprint racing at Silverstone. Say 10 laps.

I'd be very interested to test your settings and see how it affects my lap times!

This isn't a car that I have tried out and it was really fun to tune and try about from that it felt rather heavy for me, but anyway it should have pretty much the same grip as before unless turning sharply, also I would really use your outer lap if you have one to warm up the tires and breaks.

Greeny you absolutely nailed the McLaren GT3! Thanks a lot. It behaves beautifully when treated with respect but doesn't hesitate to bite back as soon as you start getting cocky. Just how I like it. And it doesn't fanny about on the kerbs anymore, which makes it much more fun!

Now I have to ask you one hundred questions because I want to understand how to do that to other cars.

Looking at the numbers, I can't really see what you did to give that looser, oversteery feel. Can you please give a brief summary of the key points for me?

The thing that confused me the most was that you have the LSD Accel and Brake way up at like 95%. From the on-screen explanation, I thought doing that would cause massive understeer but somehow it does the opposite. What's going on there? Same for the TC too. I would've thought that having it down on 2% would've stopped the car from being playful but it doesn't. Why do all these things seem backwards?

Logically I thought it would've been faster with a lower final drive ratio but again, this is not the case. I thought that giving it the lower final drive would improve my acceleration but while testing it, I found I was consistently off the pace with the lower setting. I don't get it. Seems illogical considering the cars pretty much tops out in 5th on the longest straight (or very nearly).

And a couple of quickies:

Why the difference of 1 Bar between front left and front right tyre pressure?

Why the difference between rear-left and rear-right fast bump?

Why have you put the radiator up to 51% when the car has no water temp gauge?

Seriously, I spent a good 6 or 7 hours playing with the McLaren's setup after reading a load of guides and I was getting nowhere. And you did this in what, a couple of hours? You definitely need to right a guide explaning the process you go through please. I'd pay.

Oh one final thing. Please can you tell me if you'd change anything to use this for a qualifying setup (tyre pressures I'm guessing maybe)? I'm thinking I might try and see what I can get out of it in Time Trial.

Thanks again.

Really the turning is all to do with the steering ratio, slow and fast bumps, ride height and LWB, all these together combat the reduced turning properties of the LSA ect. I have found that tuning cars is all about balance; you may want one property but you have to also combat that with something else, (if that makes sense). The steering ratio is the main thing that will help as you have to put so much less I put in to make it turn, of course as this car isn't made to turn like this it will have a large loss of grip which is where the LSA and LSD come in and help to pull out of corners without spinning off. This also applies to the low TC. They will all seem backwars because you have to take all the other settings into consideration.

Yes the final drive can be slightly confusing, with high acceleration you will obviously accelerate quickly but not get to the stop speed; the top speed is effected quite majorly having acceleration low. But on the other hand having it around the middle mark won't impact the speed or acceleration much at all keeping them both fairly high.

With the question of tire pressure and rear fast bumps, I don't think it makes much of a difference, but I find it helps to achieve a softer/smoother turn.

And the radiator at 51% is just a little superstition of mine, no logical reason for it at all.

I am glad that you managed to find this helpful, I would write a guide but it would take far to long, for what could be a rather limited audience ( I don't really know how many people want to tune their cars to in-depth)
If there are any more cars you would like me to tune don't hesitate to ask, and if you have any more questions also don't hesiate to ask.

The Lotus is a sick car, as soon as you press down on the throttle the turbo kicks in and the rear end fishtails, it's ridiculous- Senna, Prost, Mansell, Lauda, Piquet, Arnoux and a handful of other drivers all says the same thing, the turbo era was a hard time to drive F1.

I have really found there is not much else to do on this car, it seems pretty solid how it is, so I would just recommend turning the traction control slip down to 3%. Also don't worry if you start 'drifting' on a corner just try and be gentle with the throttle and you can quite easily come out of the corners after a drift'

My personal favourite is the Audio R8 LMS ULTRA and this is pretty much the only car that I would say keep the same apart from take the fuel down to about 35L and turn the steering ratio up a slightly.

First of all, great work Greeny. I've tried your Lotus setup and I really love it.

I feel like the BMW M3 GT3 is really the underdog in GT3, definitely slower than the rest. I really like the feel of that car though, so perhaps you can see what you can do in terms of somewhat ubiquitous setup for the M3 GT3?

The z4 setup seems to work for me, but now really struggle getting through Sheene On Brands GP (my goto track).

Getting oversteer there which feels like its starting on the entry (braking and turning right), then if i even go near the apex kerbing, the back keeps coming around and is hard for me to catch.

Probably pilot error more than anything

The z4 setup seems to work for me, but now really struggle getting through Sheene On Brands GP (my goto track).

Getting oversteer there which feels like its starting on the entry (braking and turning right), then if i even go near the apex kerbing, the back keeps coming around and is hard for me to catch.

Probably pilot error more than anything

I've been driving the Z4 setup ITT (no TSC) quite a bit, and it hooks real good, but when the back end goes, i usually lose it (probably due to the short wheel base). You just have to take it easy on exit throttle in 2nd gear sweeping corners. Also, it seems to react better to really being thrown in to a corner, that should counter the oversteer

This FQ400 is bad ass. If you want to go around a corner just turn early, then stick it in. Careful of dowm shifts as its costing me a fortune in engines lol Brakes 100% and 53% bias. 13.2:1 is my prefered steering ratio, fuel load 25L, gears as standard. Enjoy?

Rear tyres are a little cold, lowering the pressures will impove grip so a softer front ARB could restore grip at the front. I like it as is, because its a bit of an animal that takes a good beatin' lol

Great thread. Love the tuning.
Can you consider doing the bmw group 5 320, something like spa.

You say you love the audi lms, have you posted your setup for that ? I can't seem to get it going quickly at bathurst which is my favourite track. I can get it into the mid 2.08's whereas the mclaren I have in the high 2.06's.

I'm also struggling big time with anything at Monaco. If you have a setup for that track with the audi or any other of the gt3's I'd be very interested in reading that aswell.

Thanks man !

I'm going to try your McLaren GT3 tune at some point.

I have a challenge for you. The Ginetta G55 GT3 great car but it's a little animal on corner exit too much oversteer. If you could tame the beast and add a little straight line speed this car would be brilliant.

Hi greeny. Some know me from Forza. I'm a bit of a tuning addict lol. I've tuned my 98t last night and it drives well but its still a wip (work in progress). With mine you can floor it in first into the 80's but second gear can be very violent if you try using it out of a corner, but the other gears are fine. No fish tailing once in third, which I feel is resonable at 6 bars of boost! Did you notice the cockpit boost guage only goes up to 5 bars!! Classic, just like the real thing, I wonder if altitude effects the bhp?
Around Silverstone I'm touching 200mph but I think I need to be in the mood to do a clean lap with 1100bhp+ on tap!!! I think this might be the fastest driving car until a williams active skirt is brought into the game or something similar to compete with this lotus.(theres something about banned cars lol) I don't know tbh I've only looked at a handful of cars and tracks in the 50 hours of play time!

Great job !!!!! You should open up a offical tune shop on hear . There is a templet on here that might help you out .
You should set up shop here also

It seams the GT3 cars are the most used , you can start their (most lobbies )
Keap up the good job ,not many people posting tunes here must be a big secret

@greenymesh have you looked at link i posted ? It really is hard to keep track of your tunes and until this forum gets straighed out with a proper tuners garage maybe you can use this tample and site . All you have to do is post the car and link

Thank you for your Mc Laren GT3 setup, Greenymesh!
I must say I know nothing about tuning a car like this, so I tried your setup directly and it was a great change. Very impressed by the new handling.

My request would be a similar setup for Ginetta G55 GT3. Love the sound^^

I had that issue too. Raise the tyre pressure (I think I had it at about 190 iirc while the rest were 186 ish) and reduce camber by a good 4 or 5 notches. It won't really reduce your lap time though I'm afraid but it will reduce tyre wear for racing. You need to loosen the car up in general and you'll start seeing some 1:02s with practice. Read this thread from the start if you haven't already, Greenymesh posted a good starting point for the McLaren GT3 in the first few posts.

Hi Greeny.

I'd love to see a set up for the BMW M3 GT3 as someone else asked, don't think you've done it yet. It is certainty an under dog and not many use it which is why I prefer to use it loads. Would appreciate a set up for Laguna, I can't seem to get lower than 1:26:300. The time to beat seems to be around 1:24::500. That's certainly around the best in most lobbies and time trial. Not sure if it's my driving or my set up, appreciate your time in seeing what you can put together. Say for qual and then 5-10 laps max.

Cheers mate,
Mike.

I had the same front left issue on Sonoma. It wasn't as simple to tune out as that track is in a very hot climate. Never fully sorted that out..

thanks you so much for sharing yours setups Greenymesh !

i am an average racer and in just 5 laps Of laguna with the mac laren gt3 and your setup, i saved 1.5 sec ! Not easy too drive but that's a result !

It would be so cool if you post in the future, setups for cars involved in the community events like the actual mercedes 190 DTM
So people like me who understands nothing about mechanic have a better chance ;)

i would love formula C, ruf gt3 or audi lmp1 setup too as i have big fun with these cars :)

Hey Greeny- just landed #158 on silverstone national in the leaderboards with your Z4 GT3 setup.

Beyond #118, i cant see any times that are actual GT3 times (Zonda times are mixed in, stupidly). So in terms of GT3, #158 is definitely a top 50 time. Good work!

Edit: Just ran the same track (silverstone national) with your M3 GT3 tune and landed #144 after 5 laps.

The M3 feels heavier and stiffer, but it's more controllable when braking in to corners and on throttle out of sweeping corners and therefore in my opinion easier to drive. The Z4 feels like it likes to be thrown in to a corner rather than gently guided, haha. I feel like the Z4 has more potential than the M3, but it's easier to get close to that potential in the M3

Personally I really didn't enjoy driving the car, I found that the cornering ability was very poor and my increasing that ability has lost the car a lot of traction, so make sure to be carful in the corners :)

Love the GT3 Z4 set up, feels a LOT more stable! A little too stable coming out of corners at times (accel lag), but overall it's great

Hey Greenymesh. Great work so far on these tunes, brilliant. Is there anything you can do for the Formula A car, no specific track, just general improvements ?

TIA

Lucky you asked, I'm currently working on that now; sadly it's taking a little more time because with the tuning of this car you have to be very precise. Hopefully it will be done by tomorrow :D

Turn up your final drive ratio (shorter tracks) and that should liven it up. (4.2x - 4.3x)

These Setups are really good. Three up to five seconds faster than with my own setup.
Could you please make a setup for Audi R8 RMS ULTRA GT3 which will work on all tracks, like
the Z4 GT3 setup is working on all tracks with only a litte changes.

Sorry for the lack of updates, I have been busy creating the website for the tunes which should be live this week. Also in light of the new dlc and the limited edition upgrade being added to my PSN store I will also be tuning those cars. Sadly as I didn't pre-order the game I wont of yet be tuning the 'modified car pack', cars. Until it becomes available to buy.

Hi Greenymesh thanks very much for all the setups you have posted here, you've helped a lot. Im just wanting to know if you could produce a good base tune for RWD P30 LMP1. Thanks in advance

I apologise for the time taken to tune this car, I have been very busy recently. Anyway; this is a fairly tricky car to tune. I found that what ever I did the back would always kick out fairly easily. But I did manage to I believe increase manoeuvrability and speed.

I apologise for the time taken to tune this car, I have been very busy recently. I can't believe I haven't driven this car before this time, it amazing; I love how it can turn at such high speeds, it's incredible. I am very sorry that this tune wasn't ready for before the actual race, but I hope this tune makes up for it :)

thanks again for your overall setups Greenymesh
they works really well and i prefer overall setups than track setup maybe because i am a bit lazy ;)

Would you have an overall setup for an lmp1 like the R18TDI or the P30 ?
I wish i could find the solution to have more warm tires, and more speed without loosing too much grip and stability

Hey Greeny,

I tried your Mclaren C12 GT3 Setup at Oschersleben. I managed a best time of 1:27,7. My Goal is a 1:27,0.
Do you have a clue what i could fix to find seven tenth on that track? (already adjusted gearing)
In general i'm a quiet fast driver. I'm Leaderbord #1 on Donington Park GP and Brno on Ps4, but i'm not able to compete at Oschersleben.
Would be amazing if u could give me a hint. :)

Hi Greeny,

i use your BMW Z4 GT3 Setup (http://forum.projectcarsgame.com/showthread.php?26764-Best-tuning-setup-for-Lotus-98T-Renault-Turbo-%28post-cars-you-want-me-to-tune%29&p=936611&viewfull=1#post936611) with slight changes for some tracks.

Currently, I'm drivng with your Setup on Oscherleben. My time 1.28.0. I tried some small changes, but could not reach faster lap time. Do you have a Setup for this track, making possible a faster lap time? So that'd be greatly appreciated. ;)

Very nice!

I love that car. I drove it for the first time last night and at first, yes it can be a handful but once you have tamed the beast and take it by the scruff of the neck, boy does it drive!

Hello Greenymesh , thanks for doing this , could you just start at the top of the car list and tune them all , lol .
Your tunes are awesome mate ,
