It can be a tap to a barrier or car, it could be more than a tap. Yet there's no visible damage, there's no "pit now" message and the engineer doesn't say anything.

But something must be damaged due to the car veering to the side?

You've probably clattered the suspension geometry abit

Yup. If you tap hard enough, you might also see your water temperature rising because of a radiator leak and ultimately the engine will fail.
