Hi,

I'm enquiring about get real liveries added to Project Cars consoles.

Is it a case of getting the owner of the license/brand to agree to release the livery license for use within project cars? I'm happy to make a few enquiries to a few team/brand owners I know from my motorsport reporting days to see if they would agree to release the license. I also have a good idea of where to start with a couple more.

I would love further livery packs and inclusions of real liveries would be amazing.

or is it not quite that simple?

Love the game it gets better the more time I spend playing it.

James.

That would be my guess.

Thanks Jimmy.

We have a new member of staff who has a lot of experience in this area to work on this.

It's definitely not simple. If I was a racing driver, I can buy my car and put any liveries I want on it, within the remits of the sanctioning body. Such things as porn pics etc are obviously off the cards.

If we want to put liveries on a car, and if they're not fictional, we need to go to each of those companies/people, get their clearance, then go to the car manufacturer, who may have some competing product and will disallow a certain livery for that reason.

There's more but that's enough to be getting on with.

it's never easy is it, I may be able to help with a few GT4 and GT3 cars or if you get your new member of staff to PM me I can point them in the direction.

Wondering whether the British GT / PCARS link up will bear fruit.

Fruit in the form of BGT liveries, that is ;)

Ian,
the liverys doesn't matter for me, but i have 2 questions.

1st:- If i have a "personal" livery created and drive with it in MP (i have it only on my PC)means that during/after the "synchronisation" other driver can see my unique car?
2nd:- have a friend with a company, means that if he give me the OK, i could use his logo, right?

Thanks!

Is there any info on what happened to the Sebastien Loeb McLaren livery that was in the game? Is it coming back as a download in a future livery pack? I was so excited to drive with this livery. I would probably jump off the walls if it was brought back.

Oh god, how I hate this licensing for liveries. It's free advertising for the manufacturer and the owners of the used logos. I really don't get the problems, they make if you use them without their agreement.

Just throwing this out there, (I know very little about this and don't want a job) but could there not be a competition, or something where members submit "fictional" liveries that could be considered for inclusion in the game?
Obviously this could be down the line when the dust has settled and we have all the niggles ironed out.

Yeh I agree but I suspect for instance, Durex, doesn't want to be on a car advertising Clear blue pregnancy tests, due to conflict of interests, the same with maybe Firestone, and Pirelli.

Yeah sure, but it's still pretty dumb. At least in my opinion.

If I for example had an company and someone would use my logo for, well nearly anything, he is doing. I would appreciate it, as long as he doesn't claim the logo belongs to him or he did the logo.

I think when teams/drivers sign season sponsorship deals, they need to add in a clause for use within video games. Zig the team/manufacturer gives permission to use the car the the sponsors have already gave the rights to use it within the teams current livery.

Maybe teams need to think of this more.

That's pretty cool, I used to run custom liveries in Live for Speed because that was one of the few games that automatically shared them with other drivers, stopped doing them when other games didn't have that feature.

On the licensing issue, I wonder if perhaps the Sebastien Loeb McLaren livery was asked to be removed because it features the Blancpain logo and iRacing recently signed a deal with the SRO Motorsports group to run a sanctioned series in that sim.

Was the idea to include the decal editing ever envisaged for this game, it works so well on Forza, with console gamers able to customise their cars with whatever they like. How much work would it take to bolt a feature like this on?

BMASTER

Yeah, but one person couldn't possibly make so much money, that I as a company have real profit out of this. Also, it was HIS work, not my work or my logos work that he gets money for what he made with the logo. But his work alone. So why the hell should I punish this guy and tell him he needs to give me some percentage of the win he makes out of HIS work?

I certainly can't see any reasonable reason to go after these people.
If they make a fortune out of this, well, then it's another story. But this isn't the case in most cases.

The removed liveries for Mclaren GT3 has nothing to do with that.

Mclaren asked SMS to remove those liveries and SMS had to follow it.

imo.. the community being able to create liveries in photoshop is great, this way you don't spend valuable recourses on licensing and developing.
Sharing could be done on this forum, there will be loads off Marlboro & Gulf "inspired (kuch)" liveries in no time.

The problem now is.. nobody is able to see the custom livery in the race, so allot of talented painters don't even bother atm.
Once there is way to share and be able to use custom liveries, using the community to paint imo is the smarter option.
I'm no legal expert so i'm not sure how forza did it, but the community liveries where awesome (replica and fictional).
They only bannend the liveries with naked girls and swastika's, but allmost all racing teams (inspired.. kuch again) where available (created by users)

Thanks for the response. That is interesting, but you would think they would still have a problem with it because they sold a game with their livery in it. What is the point of allowing it to be in the game, but not in the game? It is just an interesting thought.

Just my opinion of course, but who gives a monkey about liveries, I would of thought most sim racers like myself drive in cockpit view so doesn't rear matter each way, far greater things that need sorting first!

JohnSchoonsBeard
08-06-2015, 19:29
Because there are a lot of SIM racers and racing fans who also like simulating everything, watching replays, taking photos etc including iconic racing cars. I drive in helmet view too but I don't only look at my own car. There are the cars of other club members who I see briefly at the start before they quickly vanish into the distance. As a PS4 user I would love to be able for us all to use the custom made liveries I've seen in the paint section of the site or even a way of creating my own using Photoshop and uploading them to a central SMS hub for import to my game.

If it is going to be sneakily left in the screen saver and/or opening montage I vote it is sneakily left in the actual game. I like Loeb Racing and would love to be able to use their livery. It doesn't do anything for me looking at it in a montage.

This is hilarious. It is like being stabbed in the kidneys every time. I hate that stupid screensaver enough without being kicked in the nuts by the visual images of the SLRacing car in the game.

I've pondered this elsewhere, but: do the number of liveries available for individual cars limit how often they populate the grid? The Bentley GT3 only has two liveries, and in 30+ car GT3 races only seems appear once or twice, whereas there are 5+ Z4s, R8s, Rufs etc in every race. I think it would be better if the cars were distributed more evenly. I'm guessing that releasing a bigger selection of liveries (community versions?) alongside DLC cars in future might address this issue? If so, are there any plans to release more liveries for the Bentley GT3, and to release a greater number of liveries with each DLC car?

How does iracing do it? They have a third party ( Trading Paints ) that drivers upload the liveries and trading paints is able to show all the liveries in real time while you race. They have all the sponsors it seem and im sure they don't have permission on half of them so how do they get away with it. Iracing promotes the service so drivers can have any SKIN they want on the car. To be able to see each others liveries would be a huge huge plus for this game. When I raced i always had ccm on my car and drivers knew coming in the race who they was racing against. You see a lot of nice painted cars and everyone would always give you respect on your paint job.

iRacing, being a service, probably doesn't have to worry about maturity classifications (PEGI, etc) and they can probably trust their paying user-base more than the wide-open public.

Trackmania (on PC) would allow sharing custom skins via P2P (exchanged during track load), however they also provided an option where users could elect to not download custom liveries.

Bad_Dan

But thats exactly the point, that seems to confuse many here in this thread.
Some people interpreted the answer of Ian as a way of syncing liveries on the fly, while in the game.

Like, for example, Live for Speed did it. That was great by the way. ;)

But I think, they misread Ianīs answer.
