Hi guys,

Here are the release notes for the upcoming Patch 1.4. We will update you with a release date as soon as we have the date confirmed by the various external parties.

Project CARS –Patch 1.4 – Release Notes

General
* Pagani Monza Clubday invitational event - No longer causes the game to crash when using a specific livery on the Pagani Huayra.
* PC - Fixed an issue that would cause the game to crash while watching saved replays, when shared memory is enabled.
* PS4 - Anisotropic filtering has been increased to help reduce blurry textures.
* PS4 - Temporal anti-aliasing has been further optimized. This reduces the ghosting effect and additionaly gives the player full control via a slider to tweak the resulting image according to personal preference.

Performance improvements
* Xbox One - Various performance optimizations, adding up to an average of 5-6% performance improvement. This results in an overall smoother experience.
* PS4 - All shaders have been rebuilt using new shader compiler, giving a significant performance boost in some areas.
* PS4 - CPU performance gains due to new more aggressive code optimisations.

Physics & AI
* The AI loss of grip that results from tyre degradation as a result of wear is now more noticeable.
* The AI will now show much more realistic grip loss when running on slick tyres in the rain.
* First pass improvements on various tracks to enhance the AI performance and ability (Azure Circuit, Donington GP, Watkins Glen, Bathurst, Nordschliefe)

Pitting, tuning, setups
* Fixed an issue where certain street cars would pit for tyre change during rain when they already had the correct tyres fitted.
* Fixed an issue where custom vehicle setups were lost when progressing through sessions.
* Improved the system used to select the most appropriate tyres based on current and predicted weather conditions.
* Ensure that the AI always pit when they need to change tyres based on the weather conditions.
* The Default strategy will now correctly show the tyres that will be fitted on the player vehicle during a pit stop.
* The pit stop routine will no longer start during online races until the player closes the pit stop menu. This ensures that the player has enough time to select or configure an appropriate set of actions before the pit crew start working on the car.
* Tyre pressures will now be correctly set when the player changes to a new set of tyres.
* The currently-active Pit strategy will now remain in action when advancing through race sessions.

Online
* Fixed an issue where the player was sometimes given a large time penalty when exiting the pit lane.
* Fixed an issue where the remaining session time displayed an incorrect value in the Tuning screen.
* Fixed an issue that at times would prevent a player from entering a race, after joining a second online lobby.
* Fixed and issue where the Track Location popup would at times appear on some screens.
* PS4 – The lobby browser now displays random lobbies instead of always the oldest lobbies.
* PS4 – Fixed an issue where network features could not be used after resuming from rest mode.
* PC - The lobby browser now automatically extends the search distance for lobbies when not enough of them are found using the default filter. Lobbies that are hosted further away (and therefore have potentially worse latency to all peers) appear at the bottom of the browser, and are colour coded with yellow or orange icons do indicate the quality of the connection.
* PC - The session host now regularly sets the current timestamp into a session attribute, so that sessions with too old timestamps are not displayed in the browser. This prevents stale sessions with no active host from appearing in the session browser.
* PC - When joining a session, the client now attempts to request the member details multiple times before giving up. This helps to improve the success rate of joining online sessions.
* Xbox One – Fixed an issue where matchmaking was not filtering the race length correctly.

Controls – All platforms
* Fixed pedals and triggers that vibrates during replays.
* Fixed an issue that causes the wheel centring spring to be active during driving.
* Improved force feedback strength and tweaked the default force feedback parameters for all supported wheels based on community feedback.
* Further enhancements to the steering feeling – Improved blending between the tyre force spring and the steering lock spring.
* Improved behaviour of the wheel force springs while navigating the menu system.

Controls – PS4
* Fixed an issue where the player got stuck on the career screen when entering driver name using a wheel controller.
* Improved the support implementation of several older Fanatec wheels, such as the GT2, GT3, and CSR.
* Fixed the Fanatec CSS so that it works correctly in sequential mode.
* Fixed the Fanatec CSP pedals to save the calibration correctly if player calibrated only pedals.
* Fixed the Fanatec CSP ABS rumble.
* Fixed the Fanatec CSW handbrake.
* Game Pad - Tilt Control support implemented to allow controller tilt to be used to control the vehicles.

Vehicles
* Adjusted handbrake strength on vehicles which are equipped with handbrakes.
Fixed an issue where the rain wipers’ state did not reset correctly when restarting a session.
Fixed an issue where light glows from a vehicle behind the player would sometimes appear in front of the player.
* Fixed fuel pressure gauge calibration in several cars.
* Fixed an issue where a white border would at times appear around the brake light glow of certain cars.
* Ford Mk.IV – Improved the collision model to prevent vehicles wedging in under other vehicles.
* Formula Gulf, Gumper Apollo, Formula Rookie - Fixed and issue with the livery sets that caused the livery selection to display wrong liveries.
* Lykan Hypersport -Statistics updated to latest manufacturer specification.
* Lotus 72D - Improved handing characteristics, exposed bump stops to be adjustable in the vehicle setup, reduced cold sensitivities of the slick tyres, adjusted the AI speed, wear and rain tires to match the player’s experience.
* Karts - Reworked the Karts optimization to help address performance drops with a lot of Karts on track.
* McLaren 12C GT3 - Adjusted the vehicle pose to more closely match the real car.
* BMW M3 GT4 – Improved the accuracy of the levels at which the oil and water temperature warning lights will activate.
* Ford Escort RS1600 - Improved the collision and wheel contact model to prevent climbing over other cars in collisions.
* 250cc Superkart – Improved the default setup to address controller issues on higher speed tracks, and improved the AI handling.
* Lotus 49 – Improved the AI handling of the vehicle in corners and in close racing.
* Pagani Huayra - Reduced fuel consumption to around 3mpg in hard track use, and improved cooling to prevent engine overheating.

Tracks
* Bathurst – Removed cones in the pit lane that was causing cars to get stuck.
* Watkins Glen – Fixed a number of accuracy issues around the track.
* Lemans 24h – Improved the race line at a few corners to keep the LMP cars off the curbs as this was causing the cars to lean over on two wheels.
* Silverstone National – Vehicle grid placement reworked to more closely align with the painted start boxes.
* Hockenheim (various layouts) – Reworked the wet weather reflection mapping to address incorrect object reflections.
* Willow Springs – Fixed an issue where the vehicle could drive through the barriers when exiting the pits.

GUI
* Driver Network Profile - Visual tidy up to improve usability.
* Fixed an issue where very thin lines would not always appear.
* Added support for better info display on the Community Events page.
* Fixed the issue where HUD customization was not saved on exiting a session.
* Fixed an issue where the Potential Lap time display on the Lap Info board would be inconsistent with the sector times being displayed.
* Monitor/Spectate mode - Fixed an issue where the vehicle being viewed would automatically reset to the player’s vehicle on leaving the monitor screen.

I'm also curious about this one. I'm using Jack Spades values on the PS4, will the changes be comparable to his settings?

Just curious: Are you on some sort of "Tick/Tock" cadence, where the Ticks are new feature releases and the Tocks are bugfix-releases (on the assumption that even employing ungodly development discipline, it is still really, really difficult to make software defect-free on the first try)? Also, it looks like this has been a massive amount of work. Really impressive!

I would hope that I'm stating the obvious, but as before when we released the notes for 1.3 and promised there are lots more fixes coming in 1.4, the same still holds true in regards with the next patch. The team continues to beaver away on addressing more issues found by you guys. There is no need for "I see so-and-so is still not fixed" style posts just because it's not mentioned in this patch's release notes. :)

Hoping by improved that these wheels will be fully supported, just wonder why the word FIXED wasn't used as it has been elsewhere !

Aside from that an impressive list of fixes and inprovements, very impressive all at SMS & partners

One more question if I may........

On PS4 there is the capability to join a friends game via the PSN Friends section. Is the inability to "Join" a private lobby from here a known issue?
I have to keep sending invites out to individual friends as this method doesn't seem to be working quite right.

* Improved force feedback strength and tweaked the default force feedback parameters for all supported wheels based on community feedback.

Does this mean all FFB default settings have been changed to something different than 100/100/100, much like the Jack Spade settings?

What happen to custom made settings, will they be reset when patch applied or kept? And if kept, will they still be relevant or will we need to rework all FFB settings?

Can anybody (SMS staff) confirm that "Fanatec Porsche 911 Turbo S fix detection -PS4-" is included in this patch?

Thanks in advance

That's an insane patch!! In a good way! :)

The changes that are being made for the FFB, is that going to require new FFB settings and calibration? If yes, well here goes another few hours of FFB tweaking. As long as it gets even better, I don't mind. :p I'm thinking of doing a clean install for the update, just to be safe.

What are the tradeoffs if any for these 2?

* PS4 - Anisotropic filtering has been increased to help reduce blurry textures.
* PS4 - Temporal anti-aliasing has been further optimized. This reduces the ghosting effect and additionaly gives the player full control via a slider to tweak the resulting image according to personal preference.
Also - the do the FFB setting change match any of the documented tweaker files posted on the forums (if so which ones)?

Thanks.

Great work all at SMS. It's great to see the community being listened and responded to, a rarity in the days of faceless companies out to make a quick profit.

Ian, I've got four days off work from tomorrow, any chance we'll see the patch before I have to get back to slavery? ;)

Very good start, thanks!

What about those really important things?

- A better/sensitive, more and quicker impact (real simulation) damage system, with
real suspention wear, after a hard Curb take? (like at the base of the Damage Model before build 850?)
- Better Cutting Detection and more and quicker penalties?
- Better an correct Tyre Wear specially the Rain Tyres?
- Spectator mode to watch online Races from the Garage/lobby?
- The Replay issue, Vehicles have disappeared in replay?
- Another Replay "bug" or missed Feature, to Jump from vehicle to vehicle in the vehicles cockpit and switch to TV Cam?
- Multiplayer/DS: Results, Sector besttimes and all best Time in Race, to share with friends and League support?

These things were great and we all could start to really work professionally with pCars and Leagues!

Robert, can't you read?

We've stated here that not everything is fixed at once. That might seem like a trite statement but after your 40th post on the subject I'm starting to doubt your attention ability.

If all leagues and 'professionals' go on and on and on as you do we'll put dedicated servers down the list. Now give it a rest.

Hi guys
Great news to all racers
When you improve the online bugs?
Last night some guys off my lobby just lost connections and my car brutally stopped in a invisible wall in a straigth line and loose the forcefeedback.
I needed to unpluged/pluged the wheel.
This patch have some of these bugs?

"Dear Robert,

Please take this opportunity to put your undoubtedly well-intentioned post in a suggestion thread instead. This thread is about the things fixed in the current patch, not about what your wishlist for the 'ideal' future version of Project CARS might be.

I emphasise this because posts like yours disrespect the really hard work that has gone into creating this patch by instantly dismissing it as not enough. As guardian and keeper of the team's morale, I urge you to please consider this.

All the best,

None of those are important or stopping you play the game. That, quite rightly, is where the effort is being concentrated. I just knew there would be a post like this, nothing is ever enough.

There are many things about this game that have been done differently to what gamers have come to expect, not least of which is how genuinely and honestly the company has responded to the community. I truly hope that what we are seeing is the birth of a new player in the gaming world, and a name that will one day be as big as GT, Forza, Codemasters. SMS have joined the race and made their mark. To many people out there, project Cars has come out of nowhere, but I bet it won‘t be going back there.

Can a Dev Elaborate on these? from patch 1.4

Just looking for some Xbox specific feedback on how much the FFB improved with this patch? Specifically is it comparable to the PC experience now? Can we expect it to apply to the TX, Mad Catz, AND Fanatec? Will the TX still need a firmware upgrade?

You must have never played Forza 4. That's some of the worst AI I've ever seen. You could be more then 3/4 of your car ahead and they will always smash you running you off the road like you were never there. Not to mention if you spin and block them, they dont know how to put the car in reverse and go around you. Instead they try to drive through you until they push you out the way. I like Pcars AI cuz they make mistakes just as a real person would do

Most of the WMD members are used to these sort of bug fixes/updates, some twice as big as this one in fact, so I for one am not surprised by the number of fixes in this patch as this is the way it has always been for us but obviously very grateful for them of course.

The Devs do read/listen to all bug reports and try and fix them as quick as they can, but not all bugs will make it into a patch as some are more important than others.

So now you have seen first hand what they are capable off please respect them for all their hard work as most of you seem to be doing in this thread, but some of you are are just expecting too much to be done in a short period of time, just be patient and they will be fixed eventually.

Looks like the team has been busy. It is always good to see issues being addressed and products supported. I am very impressed so far by the amount of info from the team that has been posted here on the forum and the open communication.

I am a little surprised by the way some people seem to expect that whatever fix or feature they want should be at the top of the list but I guess I shouldn't be seems that is always the case in the world of gaming. Being a developer myself I understand all to well what goes into tracing and correcting bugs in software and how that even what seems to be a simple issue can be a lot of work and even lead to new issues or expose other issues which had not yet been identified. Of course sometimes you get lucky and what seems to be a really nasty issue turns out to be just one line of code that is easily fixed.

Anyway thanks for sharing the notes on the patch and keep up the good work.

Same here, as a new wheel owner with no experience of proper FFB I'm intrigued to know what it should feel like and what the differences are between the PS4 and PC versions.

So, will the ai still be bullies bashing you off the road? also, slightly upset the bugged invite events aren't going to be fixed.

Where does it say that they won't eventually be fixed?

Not trying to rain on your parade or anything, but I'm fairly confident that the gents at SMS are prioritizing and fixing the issues as quickly as they can triage them.

If you want to help improve the racing experience against the AI in Project CARS, please consider posting video evidence to the relevant thread of "the ai being bullies bashing you off the road" (along with the type of race and the AI aggression setting) such that SMS can reproduce the issues you are seeing (which is obviously a prerequisite for them fixing them).

SMS want to make the game the best it can be. They aren't intentionally leaving things in just to piss us off. Please help them help us all when you see weird behaviour.

Thanks. :)

A suggestion. Treat AI as if they were your best friend racing online...race them at a strength you are comfortable with. If you accept that they can be faster than you at times or that they acually can be "raced" you will be amazed...

There are combos that are off but in general...they are pretty awesome. If treating them like humans that is...

Hoping by improved that these wheels will be fully supported, just wonder why the word FIXED wasn't used as it has been elsewhere !

Aside from that an impressive list of fixes and inprovements, very impressive all at SMS & partners

They're not going to have a full description in minutes of asking. Check back in a day or so

As ever it's a simple question, I am at this stage very concerned about the current support being IMPROVED rather than FIXED.

The English language is a beautiful thing, full of nuances. Improved is not what we were told 2 weeks ago, we were told in various levels of forcefulness that it's FIXED for gt2/3 owners, well is it or is it just improved from its current state of ds4 with a big dial ?

Cheers guys the list looks very promising for a single round of improvements. Can't wait to see how the 911 GT3 support has been resolved/improved. Hopefully the button mapping now saves from session to session and the deadzone a thing of the past. Either way this is a seriously impressive amount of bugfixes in a single release and I commend you all on your hard work (devs and the oft forgotten QA wizards).

You know the problems, you helped, you post them, you waited. Never complained and yelled to Ian or other SMS staff. You should be copied more often Trevor :)

First of all THANKS! Cant wait for this patch to come out, Great work guys. just a quick post if i may, I posted in the Xbox section but was closed and told to come here so

Can a Dev Elaborate on these? from patch 1.4

Just looking for some Xbox specific feedback on how much the FFB improved with this patch? Specifically is it comparable to the PC experience now? Can we expect it to apply to the TX, Mad Catz, AND Fanatec? Will the TX still need a firmware upgrade?

Great work on patching some of the issues. I'm also really interested in a response to the above.

I have not seen this question asked or answered yet, so can anyone verify if this patch will allow console users to make smaller adjustments to controller settings? For instance when adjusting the global FFB parameters some values can only be adjusted in increments of 5 or .5 or some variation. From what I have read certain parameters are very sensitive to the smallest change, but console users are not able to make the fine adjustments that PC users can. Thanks in advance for clarifying.

To fix a problem you must first identify the problem. The FFB issues on the XB1 are related to the vibration function (THERE IS NONE!). This is similar to the vibration coming and going in Forza 5, a lot of people thought it was a cooling issue (it's not).
Maybe it's an XB1 issue, but all these tweaks and work arounds can't fix something that doesn't exist.
So the question is "Where's the vibration?"

Is that a chance to see in Pcars:
1- Time of other players in a session in real time, in cockpit, on the track? This will help us a lot!
2- See the replay laps of other players in a session, not only in real time.
3- Manual entrance and exit in pits.
4 - Create dedicated server to stay open 24/7 with anyone needed to be the host.
5- To really lock the cockpit camera in the creation of sessions, because this isn't working.
6- Spectate the race in sessions to can make streaming of online races.

Is there an AI aggression setting? I seem to only remember a AI difficulty setting. But I took care of all those settings at first when I bought the game. Unless you're being sarcastic and I'm looking real dumb now. Lol.

The AI skill level setting includes aggression. At lower settings, the AI is timid. At higher settings, the AI will take risks and go for gaps.

And to those who didn't get the memo (not aimed at anyone in particular):

SMS intend for Project CARS to evolve. Instead of complaining and whining, post steps on how to reproduce the issue(s) you are experiencing in as much detail as you can muster (and if possible include videos and/or screenshots clearly highlighting the issues). The more precise you can be, the more likely the developers can quickly reproduce the issue and develop a fix.

This game is their baby and they've staked considerable portions of their working lives and some of their own future on it. So it's not like they just sit on their hands and leave in bugs on purpose to annoy us.

And remember: software development requires a very deliberate process, which means that things simply take time. Please be patient, things will keep improving and the devs will keep listening to those who contribute constructively.

Yeh, damaged needs to be fixed, other night me and friends played on full damage, we all crashed like 3 or 4 times each at over 100mph just to test damage, and the car still carried on driving perfectly ?

I wouldn't be so confident it's fixed. The multiple requests for confirmation that it's fixed have been ignored so far and the patch notes don't mention any specific xbox one wheel fixes, which would be weird as I *think*its an xbox one specific wheel issue

The good news is the default ffb settings might've been changed to community settings (hopefully jacks sop lateral ;))

Firstly, thanks to the team that have worked so hard and being keen to interact with customers.
May I get some clarity on this patch with reference to a couple of items.

Will this address the crazy wheel issue where thrustmaster wheels sometimes lock at 180deg when starting a session and need to be rebooted ?
Does this improve the reliability and stability of online multiplayer where we were experiencing dropouts, blue screens and getting booted out of lobbies and races.

I hope this isn't perceived as an "I don't see" post. Just seeking clarity on these 2 key issues.

I don't mean to sound like a prick (great way to start a sentence) but I think that most people are complaining because the game didn't live up to their expectations and that is keeping them from realizing that the game is truly exceptional and only going to get better.

Some of the PS4 improvements could have been from API advancement on the Sony platform. Plus there's pretty much no reason that the PS4 version should have worse AF than XB1.

I'm sure SMS are doing their best on both platforms. People must realize that the XB1 is just not quite as capable as PS4.

Is this patch out yet for PS4? Also I pray that the shifter issue is resolved where i am in 6th gear or shift to 6th and it automatically downshifts. I saw the initial notes that said they fixed the sequential shifter mode but does this mean they also fixed the other shifter issue?

Jus to add to wraithstrikes question, in real life f1 (fa) cars have tire warmers whilst in the pitbox, can this be implemented in the future?

As usual great job, it's nice to see SMS and WMD have not given up on listening to it's members and investors constantly trying to improve our game.
I was hoping to see a pit crew implemented but I am sure that will come later. pCARS will never be 100 % perfect I know but I do feel confident it will end up being as near as damn it.
No doubt in years to come the community and modders will get to play with it like other games have allowed. This game will be around for a long time and has set the new bar for racing sims of the future. Cant wait to be part of pCARS 2 and pRALLY.
Keep the good work up chaps.

It is implemented in the game, if you start a race your tires are alreadt heated up (green).

I searched the thread and didn't find this. Do you know if getting in game audio out of the main audio is in this patch? I have PS4.

That's great work SMS you have been busy! I was a little disappointed to not see any mention of T500rs issues being fixed? Having to constantly reset my wheel after every race and having the FFB keep droping out is really decreasing my enjoyment of the game. That said great work in the fixes so far.

Thx for upcomming patch, but no regular triple screen setup? I mean distance between player and center monitor, angle of side monitors...just like in iracing and assetto corsa. This really ruined triple screen experience.

To all of you asking about the affects the FFB changes will have on your custom profiles - Truth is, there's no way to avoid it affecting the changes you have made, short of doing nothing (which we don't consider as an option :) ). By far the biggest majority of players will never fiddle with the FFB settings in game, and we have to try and improve the experience for them as well. What we suggest is, install the patch and test the FFB first without resetting your configurations. You may just be happy with how it feels straight up, and save yourself the trouble of redoing it all.

Someone also keeps asking about the Fanatec GT3 being 'improved' instead of 'fixed'. It would be hard to improve it if it wasn't fixed, so I thought it would be redundant to state it was fixed AND improved (which sounds like some cheap product marketing campaign). Just for you though - "Fixed several older Fanatec wheel problems, such as the GT2, GT3, and CSR, and improved their default implementation" :)

Again, ALL supported wheels (yes, that includes the Thrustmaster TX) on ALL platforms are improved, and we think that we are very close to parity across all platforms (which is very difficult to achieve because of how differently the platforms communicate with the hardware).

We're not done yet though. As you all report new issues (in a structured and unemotional way ;) ), we will continue to address these as far as possible and release fixes in future patches.

Stephen, is it advisable to reset profile before running this patch on PC platform once released?

If you mean the player profile, then please don't. If there ever is a requirement for this in a future patch (heaven forbid!), then we will make it very clear. Until such time, please step away from that player profile and no-one will get hurt!

No, we're still working on the locked drive button issue. This one addressed an issue where players would vot to start but the voting was being ignored, an the race would never start.

I noticed it happens when 2 or more people join the game at the same time or few secs from each other while it's in practice or qualifying.

BTW guys, many of you are asking questions that are already answered in the first post or addressed in post 33 (http://forum.projectcarsgame.com/showthread.php?29158-Project-CARS-All-Platforms-Upcoming-Patch-1-4-Release-notes&p=960291&viewfull=1#post960291). So for the record, I'm not ignoring you, I already answered. :)

Hoping by improved that these wheels will be fully supported, just wonder why the word FIXED wasn't used as it has been elsewhere !

Aside from that an impressive list of fixes and inprovements, very impressive all at SMS & partners

Stephen, probably aimed at me, many thanks for the clarification and the fix. Now I will get to find out how my wheel should feel .
