On PS4 the soft steering dampening setting (inside control option / controller mode / advanced) reset "on" each time you restart the game, wether you turn if off before.

I have to do it every time even if I saw the save icon, this is boring

Please fix it

i was setting it to "off" but after every race/event/whatever it would switch back on so i stopped trying.

i agree and hope it gets fixed later on

I like steering damping, for the game pad.
But there's a multitude of fixes that ain't been fixed since release.
It's boring.
Can't get the game how I want it, then you get problems like the DRS activating mid corner.
The game in many respects is........unplayable.......which makes it a simulator.........which is novel, but gets boring.

I have mine set to "on", but with the options inside it all set
to "off".
I wonder if it's saving like that? I'm going to check when I get set up in a little while.

sorry for the delay, I'm going to explain :

With the option "on" with a wheel (in my case T300) : the wheel act really stronger when you lose grip and game back violentely, it make the catch hard to recover, the centering spring seem more active.

With the option "off" : the wheel act almost the same but the FFB effects seems more detailled, dans the car is easier too recover, the wheel act more smoth.

Make your experience and let me know.

FYI : since the patch 2.0 the différence is less impressive, with 1.4 there was a huge différence.

By the way, it will be great to have a official dev statement on this issue !

This is also doing my head in. Observed some strange behaviour when playing with the config earlier today:

Mode 3 with dampening 'off' would revert to 'on' following a relaunch after saving.
Mode 1 with dampening 'on' would revert to 'off' following a relaunch... WTF?

Quite the contrary and highly annoying bug. One of many since 2.0.

interresting, I will try with mode 1, I'am tired to set everything off each time I launch the game...

Just noticed another problem - not only does Steering Dampening reset, Opposite Lock also switches back on each time the application starts!

For goodness sake...

florent71
27-07-2015, 09:58
yep and no dev statement about anything, the issue is there since day one.

A friend playing on a xbox one have no issue when switching on/off, the advanced setting, so this a ps4 spécific problem.

It is habit now to go in and turn it to off - if they fix it it will throw me off a bit and I might by accident start turning it on..

No seriously please fix this

I would like to hear what this option does, there is lot of things in the options which are not described in any way.

Yes, I know there is some description on the first page, but I would like to hear from SMS, it's their game they should know what these optoins do.

It's not fix and I'd like to know too what the "Soft Steering Dampening" is good for? :dejection:

florent71

try it for yourself, with the option activated the wheel feel less responsive, heavier and catching the car is more difficult, when you set if off, you have a lighter wheel, more responsive and you can manage small drifts.

Let me know your experience.

And dev please fix it !

On the T300, it was definitely not a Placebo effect.

when it reset itself by default, the Wheel had much more centering effect and was Heavier. More Difficult to catch the back end during Oversteer.

when you manually set it, the Wheels had Less Centering, and was Lighter and Quicker to catch Oversteer.

So It does Affect Wheels and not only Controllers.
no placebo affect on my system it has a real affect.

.. will be looked in .. those advanced options should not affect steeringwheel input AFAIK.

Yes it does my good sir.

Thats what i figured... I was trying to figure out what the Fuss was about if you can just turn all the settings off:confused:

Edit: Turning that feature Off does Calm down the center of the wheel a Tad Bit and seems to provide More Road Feel at wheels Center.
I've had that setting on for a while!!! LOL... I will leave it off for a bit and see if it makes a Big Difference with the V2 wheel.

my experience while I had the T300 Set up was even turning the advanced options Off, It would Still Be On the next time you started the game,
only now you couldn't see or manually change it back, till you turned advanced back to on.

so it always came back no matter.

maybe now it's been patched so with advanced off, it no longer has an affect?

20-09-2015, 05:56
Very interesting... I've been playing with this setting tonight as well...There is for sure a Difference between of and on... Setting to Off seems to calm the center of the wheel a Tad Bit and on the wheel is a Bit more Lively... it feels good with the V2 Off or On....I've had that setting on for a while i am going to leave it Off for a bit and see what Happens. Off seems to corner smoother because I'm not dealing with a twitchy wheel center While the road feel still remains very good IMO... But its Not making a difference in lap times.

Edit: Very Very Interesting... This may have caused Me to Stumble across the Missing Link!!! More Testing is Needed to confirm this... Due to the nature of How Clipping/Soft clipping works... Ex: Clips the highest Highs and Boost the lowest lows so that all signals are within a certain range.

I Run my in game FFB Low so i don't worry about Clipping at all and the V2 wheel is very strong... Playing with this setting on and off i Noticed certain differences between On and Off Which led me to change/ Add to certain settings and get even more Road Feel and a more Stable wheel center but still keep the in game FFB at 25...Hmmmm... Still testing more to follow...

Edit: I Have Finally Got my XB1 wheel Hub and can confirm that My Global and In Car FFB Settings work Exactly and the Same on XB1 PCars as they do on PS4 Pcars For some Reason XB1 Base Global Settings are Different from PS4 but can be re programmed to the same as PS4 and its all good....Now that i Have XB1 Pcars i will Tweek for the TX wheel..This Tweeking is only is providing that i can get him off his XB1!!! LOL...i Have a TX that's already Hooked up to my sons set up...

Mauler_77
22-09-2015, 15:33
Definitely better with it OFF. Seems like you have more fine control with small wheel movements. Default should really be OFF. Game still doesn't save this setting so it's the first thing I go to whenever I launch it.

Seriously??!?! Oh Lord. Thanks to you people who did notice. I just assumed it must be some stupid filter applied only to control-pads or something, the way it turns itself back on EVRRY SINGLE TIME!

So I had stopped turning it off, choosing to spend that time on the million other variables that need attention, not to mention things in the real world like eating and earning some money.

So let me get this straight, even with advanced turned off, this soft steering dampening will still be active? I saw it defaults to on all the time, but I thought having advanced turned off would disable all the advanced options, kind of overriding it. So if I have the advanced off, will this option still be affecting my wheel?

florent71
20-10-2015, 05:31
YEP, I've already try, but it is still active...

Could you explain what is the effect of this parameter, please.

It seems to smooth steering input in a similar way to controller filtering sensitivity. So if you make very fast steering movements in both directions, less than 100% of the magnitude of your movements will be translated to ingame steering.
