Congrats to you guys over there at SMS, you have shown that a small studio of dedicated enthusiasts can set out to challenge the status que in video games.

this is how Destiny should have been (community wise). maybe they can take a few pointers from you guys over at Bungie.

Well, pCARS 1 will keep rolling for a while. People shouldn't expect to see pCARS 2 any time soon. I think at this point it's a safe assumption though that its budget will exceed its predecessor's.

Absolutely well deserved, depsite the various bugs and problems that will be fixed sooner or later. There are some games that simply change the standards and move the bar higher in their genre and Project Cars is one of them, especially on consoles. GT and Forza have a huge amount of work to do to even reach the level of PC.

Not bad, maybe around 50 to 60 million bucks in sales then, pretty good I would have thought for a small studio.

If the studio sees 10% of that amount, is already very good. Between distributors, marketing, profit margins for sellers, wages and other operational costs, even 10% might be too good to be true.

From my WMD forum post the other day:

Come on SMS... Go all out, have a party.

You all really earned it.

ONE MILLION for your first own games. A job well done.

My fate in the day I joined the club was well placed for Pcars. Having the feeling it would become one of the best sim racers.

I never had a doub, we fought 4 weeks against the stupid grunts and fanboys in Steam forum. We had is let kicked, and called blasphemers by those conspiracy idiots on steam. But we managed it.

Let see what we sold once we hit the 3 month mark. *Give Ian and the rest of SMS some nice expensive single Malt Scotch Whisky*

And a great job also go to us members from WMD, who helped SMS out on all fronts we could help on.

I'm sorry but this number without no external control means nothing, specially when Vgchartz announced something more logical a few weeks ago.
I'm quite sure that the game will sell well but to the point to reach the million in one month.
A lot of people have been upset by bugs (and the configuration layer) on a french forum and you can find plenty being sold on the net here in France.
I think people have no ideas of what a million represents.
Servers should have exploded and we will be at 7 millions at the end of this year.

We have certification organisms in France which certifies numbers or that means nothing (for investors, you should know that).

Ian's reply to that from your thread:

This is a press release from Bandai Namco, the guys that actually sell the product for us. The truth is over one million and counting.

I've ripped into VGChartz before. They were showing around 120k units I believe for Shift 2 when we'd passed 2 million. For them it's just a number wrong, for us it's the joys of having to explain the correct numbers to investors...

gp20

gp20, are you really trying to look stupid?

If a game is selling well at full price, why on earth would you reduce it as a company?? Have a think about that and while you're at it, ask a friend in to help you with your posts.
So you have to explain to me why i can get Project Cars for 31 euros now when i paid 70 euros a few weeks ago.

on PC or on PS4 ?

Here in Canada it's still @69,99$ on PS4.

It's normal on PC to have lower price soon after release.
Witcher3 for example is already 20$ less than last week

Tell that to your local retailers and please send us a picture of their faces as you're arguing with them.

That would be amazing, but it's unlikely. Demand rarely increases after the initial weeks, outside of sales and at time of content releases.

Witcher3 for example is already 20$ less than last weekPC, XB1 or PS4, it's all irrelevant :). The SRP or RRP has not changed and, at least whilst it is still selling well, is not going to change (as Ian said, they would be mad to discount a product that is selling well). What a local retailer or e-tailer does is entirely up to them. SMS and Bandai Namco won't dictate what somebody sells the game for, that is 100% the retailers decision. If that retailer wants to lose money as "a loss leader" then that is their decision :).

Companies do it all the time. It's called "a loss leader", the idea being that you see something cheap and assume that other items from the same place will be cheap so you buy them. Selling is selling, irrespective of whether it is done from a shop or from a web-site.

Maybe gp20 has got confused with a new game and a preowned game so to help them here is a rough idea on how it works (i think :D)

supplier sells to shop for 40
shop sells to customer for 50 so 10 up
shop buys back from customer for 20 so now 10 down
shop resells game for 30 so now 20 up
customer gets a new game at a discount price and the shop doubles their money

So you see you can get new game for 20 less just because someone didnt like it

The standards in French schools must be one of the lowest on the planet then. As you can't seem to grasp the fundamentals of basic business, or the fact that companies can not lie about sales figures as the have to pay TAX ( probably an unusual concept for the French to pay TAX), if they do lie about figures they get a hefty fine, and board members could go to prison.
So please don't post again as your making yourself look retarded.

Don't want anyone forgetting about it though! (Not that SMS would)

I dare say the game will sell ok on Wii U if it actually sees a release, the sim racer genre hasn't been represented on the Wii U before so it has the potential to sell very well. I only hope that once E3 is over and done with Nintendo fans get a concrete answer on whether the game will actually release on the Wii U or not.

I've yet to buy the game yet because I'm waiting for confirmation of the Wii U version of Project CARS.

Robbo-92
10-06-2015, 11:33
Didn't Ian (or anybody else) say the Wii U hardware couldn't handle the game?

He said it was struggling to run properly (currently at 720p/23fps when it needs 30fps) and then reports later came out that the Wii U version was always a maybe (which while I won't argue with definitely wasn't the impression I got from looking at various articles about the game before it launched on PC/PS4/Xbox One). Ian also went on to say something along the lines of hoping Nintendo announce a new console at E3 2015 and if Nintendo don't announce a new console (which Nintendo themselves have already said so I would be immensely shocked should Nintendo rock up at E3 2015 with a new console, even more so considering they are only having a Nintendo direct rather than a live conference, which would undoubtedly be the preferable option for a new console announcement). So I presume (and hope) Ian and SMS provide a concrete answer on the future of Project CARS on Wii U, at the moment it doesn't sound overly promising that it will see a release but until it's officially cancelled I'm still hoping I will be able to play Project CARS on my preferred format.

Depends who you ask. We know there exist big markets for GT5/Forza but SMS i relatively unknown and had nothing close to the "warchest" of T10/Kaz. Frankly there was not much USA promotion compared to Europe (no blaming just a factual item). Also would console guys appreciate the physics and detail or consider it "too hard/boring", We see some of these reports even in this forum.

I think the game will be something different sales-wise, Ian talks about a more sales in the future compared to other games since SMS plans to keep supporting and delivering cotent for pCARS1.0 up to 2 years. We have not even really hit the American market with the content close to their hearts. It could provide a nice bump later.

For basically an indie studio to reach 1MM is damn good, i mean not like Angrybirds or kandykrush i guess (since it seems like everyone plays those) but it gives Ian's group great confidence they put the right product out there.

I've been playing PCars everyday and really enjoying the cars & tracks that are currently available. Being able to setup custom realistic races in solo mode really gives the game a ton of replay value.

With the game selling over 1 million units does that mean SMS could negotiate more track locations & car/manufacturer licenses?
Like I said the game already has a very nice car & track selection but adding more tracks & cars would make the game even better.
