Question to the devs. Pure and simple question that may or may not have a pure and simple answer...

Will Project Cars see optimization for DirectX 12?

I believe they have said yes

Yes, pure and simply.

Are you in a position to give any sort of time frame? September/October for instance?

I'd imagine that you guys have been working on this already so what kind of realistic improvement should we expect to see? Will it be just fps or will it effect things like anti-aliasing which seems to be inferior on the xBox One compared to the PS4? And I know that is a difference between the two consoles and not the game itself.

Anti-aliasing is a big problem on the Xbox One version - I got my rig close up to my 55" Samsung TV and the jaggies are horrible! Don't know if it's about the 900p or the upscale that makes it look poor.

Anyway - I don't quite understand why SMS can't use anisotropic filtering to help this issue??

I would have thought implementing anisotropic filtering is on top of everything else more demanding thus would lower overall performance ie framerate.

Yeah jagged lines quite noticeable on Xbox one

Interesting.. I thought that implementing anisotropic filtering was a "cheap" way of making games look better as it actually doesn't require much.

Yes, pure and simply.

I can't wait. 5-7% performance increase in patch 1.4 + another 5-7% performance increase because of DX12 equals awesome! Not to mention further optimization for the artists on certain tracks. Soon I'll have a very smooth bad azz Project CARS on Xbox One!

We've found a lot of win on some of the heaviest tracks already. This will be shipping with 1.4

With dx12 new api alone about 15%+

DX 12 is windows 10 only, so I imagine it comes with that OS upon installing it, if its not included with it at launch then it will more then likely be included in a update like it has in the past.

Xbox One should have DX12 update by the end of the year. Will hit Windows 10 OS first.

Ian,

Could be really amazing face a great optimization/boost with DX12 on XB1

To me, the game is almost perfect but the consoles hardware cant push to the limits...I almost cant play the Campaign due some low framerates due many cars at same time, sun effects, drivers eye etc...

I was talking to a friend yesterday who is super excited about Forza 6, but the features he wants F6 to have are all in Pcars! then I asked him why not play PCars then and he said he cannot stand frame rate drops and will wait until Pcars is patched, otherwise he will get F6. I believe there is a lot of people on the same boat. SMS has a couple of months to improve performance on the Xbox One because after that the hyper train will be too strong and F6 will be the racing game to have....

I don't think it will take that long to fix the framerate in Pcars. Plus i don't think that Forza will offer what Pcars offers to people that love RACING. I'm a huge Forza fan but Forza has been becoming all about cars specifically and less about racing them, whereas Pcars is more about racing cars, not just admiring them.

That's pretty obvious, what is gonna change is the way the software access the hardware, the multi thread queue is going to be much faster and inteligent. I believe in good developers using hte new tool to achieve better results with less code.

Problem is win 10 and therefore dx12 are not launching at the same time on Xbox and pc. I think msoft will hold out releasing until fm6 is due, and make it their crown jewel again. So all this improvement pcars can achieve may not be realised until its too late.

Totally agree! Forza is finally bring weather and day night transitions to the series. But they've clearly stated their priorities are not about racing. My expectations is we'll see a lot more street cars and interesting cars but not a large increase in racing cars. I'm betting we won't see animated pit stops and certainly not any kind of pit strategy since most people don't pit at all in Forza races. I expect the increase in tracks will be mostly redone versions of the tracks in FM4 with the addition of Monza and that track in Washington that they scanned.

If SMS can indeed reduce the "studdering" and add the 458 GT3 I have very little reason to go back to Forza.

As we are only a week away from E3 I'm sure we will have some some definitive answers about this update when to expect it. But the wording in the MS preview forum web site makes it sound like it will roll out preview members very soon.

Sweet! Just hope PCars keeps evolving for a long time as it has been so far, including with new features (but bug fixing shoul obviously be the priority)!

By the way, when will the super annoying sound bug be fixed? The one that lowers the pitch of the sound fx and the engeneer voice? It's very distracting and irritating...

I don't always get why people like to compare driving games especially when they are created to probably achieve slightly different goals.

Since you're taking this with good humour I'll post you the latest info on the patch release:

Let's call it week and a half now. But please don't shoot me if an issue pops up.

We thought we had it ready earlier and the QA guys found a crash which put us back a few days initially
