Just like i did at Laguna Seca. Press link below for laptimes of all 69 cars around Laguna Seca.

http://forum.projectcarsgame.com/showthread.php?29795-Laguna-Seca-Laptimes-All-69-Cars-Tested

I will be testing all the cars around Road America to get a baseline time. This will give all of you interested an indication of what each car on this game is capable of compared to each other on a speed track like Road America.

I use the controller, 5 Laps each car stock tune (no tuning allowed), in time trial mode. I will start with the ROAD CLASS first.

ROAD CLASS

Caterham Seven Classic - 2:56.921

Still felt very unbalanced, weak brakes, oversteers quite easily very hard to be consistent.

Renault Megane RS 265 - 2:43.087

Very balanced car, tends to understeer a little on corner exit doesnt have the grip or power of the other FF car the Focus RS

Ford Focus RS - 2:39.933

Felt very nice around this track, good grip and brakes, holds its line a lot better than the Megane. 3.1 seconds faster than the Megane RS 265 its direct competitor.

Mercedes A45 AMG - 2:35.841

For a AWD car does not have huge amounts of grip tends to spin on most corners if pushed hard. Have to keep the revs above 4000rpm or the turbo lag will slow you down considerably.

BMW 1-Series M Coupe - 2:33.603

Very balanced car, does everything pretty good, gearing does not match the track well, tends to oversteer a little when pushed too hard into the corner.

Mitsubishi EVO X FQ400 - 2:31.595

Well balanced car, has better grip than the other AWD car tested so far the A45 AMG. Has bad turbo lag need to keep the revs up to go fast. Prefers slower corners tends to slide sideways on the long faster corners.

Audi R8 V10 Plus - 2:23.090

Getting into the high powered cars now. Car has good power down the straights as expected with the V10 Lambo engine. For an AWD car the back end grip is not that good. Can spin out quite easily if pushed hard into corners. Very hard car to be consistent. Brakes are very good and car is a pleasure to drive at 8/10ths pace. Its a whopping 8.5 seconds faster than every car tested so far.

Mercedes SLS AMG - 2:20.606

Very nice car to drive around this track. Great brakes has awesome top speed on the straights. Has more grip than you expect it to. Feels pretty heavy through the corners but very stable. It is 2.4 seconds faster than the Audi R8 V10 Plus.

Caterham Superlight R500 - 2:22.343

Great acceleration out of the corner, awesome breaks and very fast cornering. But it was still not able to beat the AMG SLS huge top speed down the straights. Above 200kph the acceleration slowed considerably and the AMG SLS put car lengths on it on the straights. 1.7 seconds slower than the AMG SLS.

BAC Mono - 2:21.665

Awesome car. Handles like a go kart. Has great balance and loves the slow and fast corners. Does not have the acceleration of the other track special car tested so far the Caterham R500 but it still manages to beat it by 0.7 seconds thanks to its amazing cornering speed. It fell short of the AMG SLS by 1.0 seconds.

RUF RGT-8 - 2:20.568

We have a new fastest lap by 0.1 seconds only. It is very difficult to keep this car smooth and consistent. The RUF is more eager to turn into the corners than the AMG SLS, but it also feels very twitchy and can bite if you push too hard. The brakes are amazing. Very fun car to drive once everything goes right.

Ariel Atom 300 Supercharged - 2:24.031

The last of the three trackday special cars and it ends up being the slowest of the three. The Ariel struggles to turn in with the sharpness of the BAC Mono into the corners and loses out in acceleration and speed to the Caterham R500. But its still are very capable car but struggled mostly with top speed and acceleration. Compared to the other 2 trackday special cars it was 2.4 seconds slower than the BAC Mono and 1.7 seconds slower than the Caterham R500.

McLaren 12C - 2:17.223

We have a new leader and it did it easily. Beat the current leader the AMG SLS by a big margin of 3.4 seconds. It is better everywhere except for car balance it feels like its always on the edge of sliding out when pushed. But power wise the SLS cannot keep up. Also brakes a very good and very fast gear changes with the DCT.

McLaren F1 - 2:12.848

The speed has just got up to another level with the McLaren F1. The acceleration and speed is phenomenal. Does not have the agility of the track day special cars or the braking but it more than makes up for it with brute horsepower. Brakes are a bit weak compared to its sibling the 12C but it feels more balanced and quite easy to be consistent compared to the 12C.

Pagani Hyayra - 2:12.685

We have a new leader! The battle of the McLaren F1 vs Pagani Huayra was exciting to watch. Racing the ghost of the F1 the Pagani showed better brakes and acceleration but the McLaren had a better top speed and was more stable through the corners. At the end of it all the Pagani was a mere 0.2 seconds quicker. Was a great close battle.

Lykan Hypersport - 2:11.370

We have a new leader once again. The Lykan is a very easy car to drive. Has more grip than you expect. Great brakes very stable. Need to be careful to stay of some kerbs as it can unsettle the car. Beat the Pagani by 1.3 seconds.

McLaren P1 - 2:10.288

My favorite car on this game. This car has the best acceleration and speed out of all the cars tested so far. It puts car lengths down the straights compared to the Lykan when using the KERS & DRS system. Car is not very well balanced though and feels very twitchy easy to lose traction on corner exit. Very difficult car to get the best out of. But still managed to be the fastest car so far by 1.1 seconds.

RUF CTR3 - 2:09.002

We have a new fastest car the RUF. Has huge amounts of acceleration and braking and is a very stable car out of all the corners. If you push too hard into corners it tends to understeer but if you let go off the throttle mid corner the nose tucks back in nicely. Against the ghost of the P1 the corner exit acceleration is quite close but as the speeds increase the P1 moves ahead. The RUF catches the P1 under brakes and through the corners as it has much more grip and does not have an issue putting the power down like the P1. First car to break the 2:10 barrier and it did easily.

Gumpert Apollo S - 2:08.226

What a car!!! Has huge amounts of grip and handling and decent speed thanks to 700hp. It loses out in acceleration and speed to the P1 and RUF but beats them easily through the corners and braking and takes the long fast right hander so much quicker than everything else. Beat the previous fastest car the RUF by 0.8 seconds.

Ariel Atom 500 V8 - 2:08.966

The fastest Road Car at Laguna Seca has lost to the Gumpert Apollo around Road America!! This car has crazy fast acceleration and braking and cornering which is a tiny bit quicker than the Gumpert but loses out down the long straights. Against the ghost of the Gumpert down the first 2 long straights the Gumpert had a 4-5 car length advantage but by the last few corners the Atom managed to catch up to the back bumper thanks to later braking and better acceleration out of the slow corners. But on the final straight the Gumpert once again pulled away beating the Ariel by 0.7 seconds.

Top speed of stock BMW 1-Series M Coupe is set to 155mph. Bet you were on the rev limiter most of the track. could be 3-4 second quicker with just gear ratio changes

A lot of cars could be quicker with tuning, but he is doing the laps with standard setup as matter of comparison.

Hi Sean the 1 Series never hit its limiter even on the long straights of Road America tgat i can remember. There is definitely plenty of seconds to cut off once tuning begins on most cars.

Thanks for posting all of this Greeksniper. A question or two...

In your Laguna Seca thread, you stated you used TCS + ABS --- same here on Road America?

And... have you tweaked your controller setup? If so, would you mind sharing your settings?

Hi Don, nice to see another Forza veteran over here.
Im still using TCS and ABS for the sake of keeping the variables the same across the two tracks. But i have all assists off when racing and hotlapping.

Im more than happy to share my controller settings. These are settings a teamate of mine PTG Murderous came up with. Please see below:

Looking forward to seeing your stock lap times in the Le Mans prototypes, especially the new cars from the Racing Icon Pack.

Quick question, do you plan to go back to Laguna Seca and run some laps with DLC cars? Same thing applies there, I'd be interested to see your lap times at Laguna Seca in the BMW V12 LM and the Bentley Speed 8.

I was surprised to find that my lap times at Road America in those two cars (with stock settings) have been very close (nearly identical actually). I was fully expecting to much quicker in the Bentley at that rack.

Thank you much, sir.

I wanted to confirm the TCS+ABS for the exact same reason - to get "apples to apples" when / if I try to run some comparison laps.

I have just finished testing the Touring Class & GT Class (Total of 27 cars).

Some very close laptimes in some sub classes as you will see with the laptimes below. In the GT4 Class all the cars are separated by only 0.9 seconds. The GT3 Class all cars are separated by 2.0 seconds, and the Group A Class only 2.4 seconds. Also the Merc 300SEL vs Escort will be an awesome series. Two entirely different cars only separated by a few tenths in both Laguna and Road America.

Here are the laptimes below:

TOURING CLASS

Ford Escort Mk1 RS1600 - 2:43.533

Felt very good around Road America, need to be smooth on the throttle out of corners as it can spin out. Brakes are decent, does struggle down the long straights with little hp.

Mercedes 300SEL 6.8 AMG - 2:43.021

Horrible car lol, handling, brakes, grip is very bad, has decent power down the straights. To make it rotate on corner entry you need to slide the car into the corners. Very inconsistent. All sounds bad so far, but it still manages to beat the only other car in its class by 0.5 seconds thanks to the hp advantage.

Renault Clio Cup - 2:35.149

A very balanced car around this track, the brakes and grip are very good. It turns in very nicely and only understeers slightly on corner exit if you came into a corner too fast. Long straights hurt this car not that much hp.

BMW M3 E30 Group A - 2:21.044

Awesome car. Does everything extremely well. The engine noise is amazing. Has great brakes, cornering and the gearing really suits the track. Can bite if pushed too hard but very consistent when driven smoothly.

Mercedes 190E 2.5-16 Evo2 DTM Group A - 2:20.688

Very balanced car, feels a bit heavier everywhere compared to the BMW M3 Group A. Where it beats the BMW is top speed. Corner exit acceleration is similar but the Merc pulls away above 200kph. Only 0.4 seconds separated the Merc & BMW.

Ford Sierra RS500 Cosworth Group A - 2:18.662

Compared to the Merc & BMW this car feels heavier than both. Need to brake earlier, does not have the turn in ability and tends to understeer when pushed. Also has a bit of turbo lag. Need to rev out all the gears to the limiter. This car is so much faster down the long straights compared to the other two Group A Cars. Was nearly 10 cars ahead after the 1st sector racing the ghost of the Merc.

Mercedes AMG C-Coupe DTM - 2:01.906

Amazing grip and cornering. This car handles like its on rails. Has great acceleration and the gearing really suits the track. You need to stay off the kerbs as it can unsettle the car. A whopping 17 seconds faster than every car in the touring class.

PTG Greeksniper

Here are the GT Class laptimes below:

GT CLASS

Ginetta G40 Junior - 2:44.420

Has amazing grip everywhere. Great brakes and cornering ability. Very difficult to lose traction. Only has around 100hp so it takes forever to get down the straights. You need to keep the momentum up throughout the lap to get a decent laptime.

Ford GT40 MkIV - 2:24.369

This car brings back memories of the missile cars from Forza 2 lol. It is a point and shoot type of car. Really struggles to turn in, and brakes are weak. You basically have to slow down early & turn in early let the car roll through the corner with no throttle and then once straight on corner exit plant the throttle. Is a very fast car on the straights big hp.

Aston Martin Rapide S Hybrid GT4 - 2:20.050

A very balanced car around this track, has more grip than you expect it to. Feels like the heaviest car in the GT4 Class, does not have the cornering ability of the other GT4 Cars and pushes into understeer at the limit. Is the fastest GT4 Class car down the straights easily.

BMW M3 GT4 - 2:20.062

Amazing car. Does everything extremely well. Has great brakes, cornering and the gearing really suits the track. So much more agile than the Aston but gets left behind badly down the straights. Racing the ghost of the Aston the BMW is over 5 car lengths behind after Sector 1 but manages to be a few car lengths ahead coming onto the last uphill straight before the finish line. The Aston catches up quickly and on the line the BMW loses by only 0.012 of a second. Great battle.

Ford Mustang Boss 302R1 GT4 - 2:19.855

Just managed to beat the Aston & BMW by 0.2 seconds. A very loose setup, has a decent amount of grip but has a lot of body roll into corners. Not as agile as the BMW but is heaps better than the Aston. Acceleration and speed it pulls away from the BMW but cannot match the Aston .

Aston Martin V8 Vantage GT4 - 2:19.168

Very well balanced car. Has amazing grip and braking and corner exit acceleration and speed is impressive. Does not have the turn in of the BMW but is a lot better than the other Aston and Ford. Corner exit acceleration can match the Aston Rapide and only loses out in top speed on the long straights by a car length or two. But it pulls away from all the other GT4 cars tested down the straights.

Ginetta G55 GT4 - 2:19.293

Definitely the best handling car in the GT4 Class. The brakes are amazing. In sector 2 with the long fast right hander you can basically take most of the corner full throttle which allows it to get away from the Aston all the way too the last corner. The Aston manages to catch and beat the Ginetta though, right on the finish line by only 0.1 seconds. It does lack a bit of speed down the straights. The slowest car along with the BMW for top speed.

BMW M1 Procar Group 4 - 2:11.226

Very well balanced car does everything well. Great brakes and grip and is quite easy to be consistent. Has decent power gearing is slightly off for this track. There is no other car in Group 4 so nothing really to compare to but was still heaps of fun.

Ford Zakspeed Capri Group 5 - 2:10.878

Very difficult car to drive for me. Has very bad oversteer coming out of corners. Brakes are awesome as is the power and gearing suits this track. Just the bad oversteer issue. If you give it too much throttle on corner exit it will spin out of control. You have to be very patient on the throttle. If a car ever needed tuning adjustments this will be the car.

BMW M3 GT GT3 - 2:09.429

The first car tested from the GT3 Class. Overall it does nothing wrong has great brakes and is eager to turn in to corners. Has very good grip through the corners and is such a neutral handling car. The only negative is it just doesnt have the hp down the straights & definitely the slowest accelerating car in the GT3 Class but still an awesome car to drive. You can be very consistent in this in a long race.

BMW 320 Turbo Group 5 - 2:09.236

A very fun car to drive. Does everything extremely well. Comparing it to the Zakspeed Capri in its class it feels more planted everywhere. Does not have oversteer issues like the Capri. They are very similar in braking and speed but the BMW gives way more confidence on corner exit. It is 1.6 seconds quicker than the Zakspeed Capri in Group 5.

Ginetta GT4 GT3 - 2:09.184

This car is eager to turn into the corners and has the best brakes out of all the GT3 Cars tested. It feels very light and can sometimes catch you out if your too aggressive. Steering is very sensitive which makes it difficult sometimes to place the car where you want it coming into a corner. Has better corner exit acceleration compared to the BMW M3 GT3 but does run out of puff at the end of the straights. Managed to beat the M3 by 0.3 seconds.

Mercedes SLS AMG GT3 - 2:09.033

Feels a lot heavier compared to the BMW and Ginetta. Need to brake a bit earlier. Has good grip everywhere, tends to understeer slightly when pushed hard but that makes it easier to poisition where you want the car. The gearing is way too long even for the long straights of Road America. Top Speed is better than both the Ginetta & BMW which helped it beat the Ginetta by 0.1 seconds and the BMW by 0.4 seconds just.

Audi R8 LMS Ultra GT3 - 2:08.465

What an awesome car. Has so much grip everywhere. Car understeers slightly through all the corners but its so easy to be consistent in. Has better acceleration and speed compared to all the GT3 cars tested so far. Brakes are strong and this car doesnt mind riding the kerbs. Managed to beat the previous fastest GT3 car the Merc by 0.6 seconds.

RUF RGT-8 GT3 - 2:09.006

Found the RUF very hard to be consistent in. If you push too hard into a corner it can oversteer and its hard to control. The brakes are awesome though. It turns in very sharply and acceleration and speed are strong but not as good as the Audi. The RUF and Merc are very close in laptimes only separated by 0.027 seconds.

BMW Z4 GT3 - 2:08.412

Best handling GT3 car so far. Has great turn in and braking and you can adjust the car mid corner using the throttle. Corner exit acceleration is the best so far along with the Audi. Does lose out down the long straights of this track compared to the Audi. New fastest GT3 car beating the Audi by only 0.053 seconds.

Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3 - 2:07.902

First GT3 car to break the 2:08 barrier. Very neutral handling. Feels heavier than the BMW Z4 and doesnt turn in with the same ferocity. Brakes are good as is mid corner grip. Has the best top speed out of all the GT3 cars which helped it get away from the Z4 GT3 and beat it by 0.5 seconds.

McLaren 12C GT3 - 2:07.487

Arguably the best handling GT3 car in the game. Tucks in to the corners nicely and allows you to get on the throttle a lot sooner coming out of orners without unsettling the car. 2nd gear acceleration is better than everything in the GT3 class. Can hold off the Aston to around 200kph down the straights but then starts to fall behind as the Aston powers away. Got away from the Aston in corners and acceleration and ended up beating the Aston by 0.5 seconds and is the fastest GT3 car tested.

Ford Mustang Cobra Transam - 2:04.110

Very surprising car. The first few corners you feel like you need to be hesitant with the throttle and braking but after a few laps you gain confidence and realise you can really be aggressive with this car. It rides the kerbs better than every other car ive tested. It has huge acceleration and speed and is quite easy to be consistent once you get into a rhythm . It is an amazing 3.3 seconds quicker than the fastest GT3 car the McLaren 12C GT3, but there is no other car in its class to compare it to.

Pagani Zonda R - 2:01.890

Comfortably the fastest car in the GT Class again. Its actually pretty challenging to drive. You have to be careful not to give it too much throttle on corner exit or it will bite you. Power delivery is high in the rev range dont let yhe revs drop too much. Gearing is off for this track, some corners 2nd gear is too short and 3rd gear is too long. Once again there is nothing to compare it to in its class.

A few people have asked me if i will also test the new DLC cars and the answer is yes definitely. When i complete all the rest of the cars laptimes, i will be testing the new DLC cars to see where they end up. Really looking forward to see if the Bentley GT3 can beat the fastest GT3 car currently the McLaren 12C GT3.

Thanks MadMuhammad :)

Cant wait to see how the prototypes do they were all pretty close at Laguna Seca in each sub class.

Cheers for putting this together Greeksniper, I particularly like the little summary for all the cars you've done, makes me want to try some of the ones I haven't got round to driving yet.

Thanks for tge feedback redStar. There are so many cars and tracks. I chose a handling track and a speed track to see what each car is capable of on each to get a baseline on what cars are the best in each subclass. Plus i find doing this fun and i get to race evety car on the game :)

Great stuff, PTG Greeksniper. I think you're a considerably quicker racer than me so you're setting some good lap times with the stock settings for me to push for. Plus Road America and Laguna Seca are two tracks that I'm very comfortable with, so I can run relatively consistent laps (at least for me) at these tracks.

Over time I've been settling into some favorite cars, and I've found myself turning a lot of laps in the Aston Martin Vantage GT3, the BMW GT3, and the Ford Mustang Cobra Trans Am. But the new Racing Icons Pack has the BMW V12 LMR and the Bentley Speed 8, which are both fantastic.

If you haven't started running laps in the new DLC cars yet, trust me, you're going to love them.

Interesting to see the comparison within the class between Laguna and RA. Good to see some of the top FM5 people over here.

STOCK CAR CLASS

Caper Monterey Stockcar - 2:10.093

Just finished testing the only car in the STOCK CLASS the Caper Monterey Stockcar. Its actually a very fun car to drive and feels completely different to any other car in the game. It has a lot of body roll into the corners and at the same time very sensitive to controller inputs, i constantly found myself having to stay out wide approaching corners then letting go of the throttle and throwing it into the corner and letting the car roll into the corner. It also only has 4 gears and was hitting the top speed of the car on the straights and bouncing off the limiter.Even with all this it still managed a very impressive time of 2:10.093 which put me comfortably in the top 5 leaderboard times all with only 5 laps and the stock tune which is pretty respectable.

Just finished testing all the Prototype Class. As expected all of the cars have huge amounts of grip and amazing brakes. The LMP1 and LMP2 cars were so close in laptimes. It will be an awesome multi class endurance series.

Here are the laptimes below:

Palmer Jaguar JP-LM Prototype 2 - 2:10.603

Very stiff suspension. Has huge amounts of grip and great brakes. The power really lets it down struggles to keep up with the fast Prototype 2 Class Cars.

Radical SR3-RS Prototype 2 - 2:09.842

Feels entirely different to the Jaguar just tested. Doesnt have the downforce and grip of the Jaguar but its still corners very well in its own right. Brakes are very strong and has more acceleration and speed than the Jaguar which helps it beat the Jag by 0.8 seconds.

Caterham SP/300R Prototype 2 - 2:02.213

This Caterham has huge amounts of grip and downforce everywhere. Feels like the Jag but with heaps more acceleration and speed. Its so much quicker than the Jag and Radical that it should be in a different class lol. Very neutral handling and has no issues going over the kerbs if needed.

Radical SR8-RX Prototype 2 - 2:00.396

Doesnt have the grip of the Caterham or Jaguar. Need to be careful with the throttle on corner exit as the car can spin if your too aggressive. Good thing about this car is you can adjust the position of the car using the throttle mid corner. Acceleration is huge. When i was racing the ghost of this car using the first LMP2 cars it was pulling away down the straights from them. Huge amount of fun and nothing in the Prototype 2 class can match its power.

Oreca 03 Nissan LMP2 - 1:59.305

Great handling, great brakes, very confidence inspiring and very consistent. All 5 laps were in the 59s and it was the first time i ever raced this car. Can match the other LMP2 cars for mid corner speed but falls behind the Marek & RWD down the straights.

Alpine A450 LMP2 - 1:59.390

Feels quite similar to the Oreca Nissan but turns in even sharper. If pushed hard it will spin before the Oreca Nissan. Acceleration and speed is identical to the Oreca but once again falls short of the Marek & RWD down the straights.

Marek RP 219D LMP2 - 1:58.251

Racing the ghost of the Oreca the Marek definitely has an acceleration and top speed advantage. Brakes and handling can match the Alpine and Oreca Nissan, mid corner speed is almost identical. The 1.1 second advantage is basically down to corner exit acceleration and speed down the straights.

RWD P20 LMP2 - 1:57.804

This is the fastest LMP2 car. Has a slight advantage in acceleration and top speed than even the fast Marek. Feels quite similar in handling to the other LMP2 cars but i feel this car has the edge slightly and can carry that tiny bit more speed into and out of a corner. One tiny negative i noticed is if the revs drop too much out of a corner has a tiny bit of lag compared to the other three.

Sauber C9 Mercedes Group C - 1:55.683

So much fun to drive. Doesnt have the cornering speed of the LMP2 or LMP1 cars need to brake a bit earlier, need to be more patient on the throttle coming out of corners. The gear changes are a lot slower than the other prototype cars. Has huge acceleration and top speed down the straights. Definitely the fastest car down the straights out of all the Prototype cars. Only car in Group C nothing really to compare it to.

Audi R18 TDI LMP1 - 1:50.660

What an awesome car. Has huge grip and cornering speed and the brakes are very strong. Has the best response from low revs out of all the LMP1 cars. It does lose time compared to the Marek and RWD LMP1 cars as it does not have a KERS system and loses a few car lengths down the straights. Heaps of fun though and quite easy to drive.

Marek RP 339H LMP1 - 1:50.229

Very similar brakes and handling characteristics to the Audi R18. It turns in that tiny bit sharper though into the corners but does spin the tyres easier than the Audi. Beat the Audi by 0.4 seconds and that was all down to the speed advantage down the straights.

RWD P30 LMP1 - 1:49.296

Thanks to its KERS system mostly this car beats the Marek by 1.0 second. Can carry a tiny bit more speed than the other two into the corners which allows you to get on the throttle sooner and pulls away from both down the long straights comfortably. One negative is it does not like riding the kerbs compared to the other two LMP1 cars. But this is the car you want to be in if you want the advantage. The first car to break the 1:50 barrier.
