Hi all,

Here are the final release notes for PC version of patch 1.4.

Project CARS – PC Patch 1.4 – Release Notes

General
* Pagani Monza Club day invitational event – no longer causes the game to crash when using a specific livery on the Pagani Huayra.
* Fixed an issue that would cause the game to crash while watching saved replays, when shared memory is enabled.

Physics & AI
* The AI loss of grip that results from tyre degradation as a result of wear is now more noticeable.
* The AI will now show much more realistic grip loss when running on slick tyres in the rain.
* First-pass improvements on various tracks to enhance the AI performance and ability (Azure Circuit, Donington GP, Watkins Glen, Bathurst, Nordschleife).

Pitting, Tuning, Setups
* Fixed an issue where certain street cars would pit for tyre change during rain when they already had the correct tyres fitted.
* Fixed an issue where custom vehicle setups were lost when progressing through sessions.
* Improved the system used to select the most appropriate tyres based on current and predicted weather conditions.
* Ensure that the AI always pit when they need to change tyres based on the weather conditions.
* The Default strategy will now correctly show the tyres that will be fitted on the player vehicle during a pit stop.
* The pit stop routine will no longer start during online races until the player closes the pit stop menu. This ensures that the player has enough time to select or configure an appropriate set of actions before the pit crew start working on the car.
* Tyre pressures will now be correctly set when the player changes to a new set of tyres.
* The currently-active Pit strategy will now remain in action when advancing through race sessions.

Online
* Fixed an issue where the player was sometimes given a large time penalty when exiting the pit lane.
* Fixed an issue where the remaining session time displayed an incorrect value in the Tuning screen.
* Fixed an issue that at times would prevent a player from entering a race, after joining a second online lobby.
* Fixed an issue where the Track Location popup would at times appear on some screens.
* The lobby browser now automatically extends the search distance for lobbies when not enough of them are found using the default filter. Lobbies that are hosted further away (and therefore have potentially worse latency to all peers) appear at the bottom of the browser, and are colour coded with yellow or orange icons do indicate the quality of the connection.
* The session host now regularly sets the current timestamp into a session attribute, so that sessions with too old timestamps are not displayed in the browser. This prevents stale sessions with no active host from appearing in the session browser.
* When joining a session, the client now attempts to request the member details multiple times before giving up. This helps to improve the success rate of joining online sessions.

Controls
* Fixed pedals and triggers that vibrates during replays.
* Fixed an issue that causes the wheel centring spring to be active during driving.
* Improved force feedback strength and tweaked the default force feedback parameters for all supported wheels based on community feedback.
* Further enhancements to the steering feeling – Improved blending between the tyre force spring and the steering lock spring.
* Improved behaviour of the wheel force springs while navigating the menu system.

GUI
* Driver Network Profile - Visual tidy up to improve usability.
* Fixed an issue where very thin lines would not always appear.
* Added support for better info display on the Community Events page.
* Fixed the issue where HUD customization was not saved on exiting a session.
* Fixed an issue where the Potential Lap time display on the Lap Info board would be inconsistent with the sector times being displayed.
* Monitor/Spectate mode – fixed an issue where the vehicle being viewed would automatically reset to the player’s vehicle on leaving the monitor screen.

Vehicles
* Adjusted handbrake strength on vehicles which are equipped with handbrakes.
* Fixed an issue where the rain wipers’ state did not reset correctly when restarting a session.
* Fixed an issue where light glows from a vehicle behind the player would sometimes appear in front of the player.
* Fixed fuel pressure gauge calibration in several cars.
* Fixed an issue where a white border would at times appear around the brake light glow of certain cars.
* Ford Mk IV – improved the collision model to prevent vehicles wedging in under other vehicles.
* Formula Gulf, Gumpert Apollo, Formula Rookie – fixed an issue with the livery sets that caused the livery selection to display wrong liveries.
* Lykan Hypersport – statistics updated to latest manufacturer specification.
* Lotus 72D - improved handing characteristics, exposed bump stops to be adjustable in the vehicle setup, reduced cold sensitivities of the slick tyres, adjusted the AI speed, wear and rain tires to match the player’s experience.
* Karts – reworked the Karts optimization to help address performance drops with a lot of Karts on track.
* McLaren 12C GT3 – adjusted the vehicle pose to more closely match the real car.
* BMW M3 GT4 – improved the accuracy of the levels at which the oil and water temperature warning lights will activate.
* Ford Escort RS1600 – improved the collision and wheel contact model to prevent climbing over other cars in collisions.
* 250cc Superkart – improved the default setup to address controller issues on higher speed tracks, and improved the AI handling.
* Lotus 49 – improved the AI handling of the vehicle in corners and in close racing.
* Pagani Huayra – reduced fuel consumption to around 3mpg in hard track use, and improved cooling to prevent engine overheating.

Tracks
* Bathurst – removed cones in the pit lane that was causing cars to get stuck.
* Watkins Glen – fixed a number of accuracy issues around the track.
* 24 Heures du Mans – improved the race line at a few corners to keep the LMP cars off the curbs as this was causing the cars to lean over on two wheels.
* Silverstone National – vehicle grid placement reworked to more closely align with the painted start boxes.
* Hockenheim (various layouts) – reworked the wet weather reflection mapping to address incorrect object reflections.
* Willow Springs – fixed an issue where the vehicle could drive through the barriers when exiting the pits.

First impressions; (might be the placebo effect), FFB does indeed feel improved on my CSR and i am able to feel the wheel going light better when experiencing understeer under braking. Good job SMS, I was fearing a radical overhaul but it turns out there are just subtle FFB improvements with 1.4. http://ftalphaville.ft.com/wp-content/plugins/assanka_web_chat/img/emoticons/thumbs_up.gif

Edit: Took the CLK-LM out on Le Mans, i remember before the patch that it felt a bit lifeless and i was going to need to tweak the individual FFB settings to get more feel. Went back after 1.4 and it's way better, seems road feel has improved greatly as i can now feel the bumps in the surface a lot better, and curb feel has improved too (non existent on default before across the board). Steering felt more planted also whereas it seemed a tad too light on this car pre 1.4.

Looking forward to trying out some of these changes and the pit strategy fix will be a real godsend, having read this its hard to be sure but does this now allow you to choose correct pressures when setting up a new pit strategy?

I have had an issue with cars that need more than 2.00 Bar of pressure as you can't set that for your second set of tyres.

Still not fixed. My first MP game after the patch and I couldn't hit "drive". It was locked :(

EDIT: Same goes for the second race :(

I fear this is not solved. Just continued my career, was altering FFB settings for the Megane RS during practice, i save them, went back just to make sure they were still saved and all seemed ok. Went on track for a lap, and when i revisited the pits i noticed the settings were defaulted again...

We identified another situation in which this happens, unfortunately too late for this patch. So, yes the patch does fix some instances that would cause this to happen, but not all. We'll keep at it.

So are the patch notes the same as original or were there some things added in the patch that were not in the original notes?

Ok, no biggie as i can setup in free practice outside of career (hopefully those stay saved). Cheers

Hi SMS devs. Any word on the FFB being massively clipped (applying some kind of centering spring) if you reset controller settings back to defaults after the patch? Haven't seen any official acknowledgement of this yet, but it seems to be fairly widespread (and presumably would be messing up for anyone who just purchased the game new)

HI
First of all thanks for making such an amazing game....but since updating to version 1.4 yesterday when i make a mandatory pitstop during the main race (2nd) i leave to return to track only to find within metres my car becomes undriveable, on my hud i see four red tires and when i change camera view it looks like my tures are flat and or clipping into the tarmac....
i have not elected to change any pit options just expect the game to choose my option tyres....this is my third season and the previous seasons did not show this bug so please be aware of this as of this point its no use even starting the game up if my hard won grid position is lost within the pitstop......i wany to play my favourite game and this patch has made it the exact opposite...please hurry and fix this

For the love of god. That was the one thing I was looking forward to being sorted.

Any info on what circumstances exactly are still causing it to happen? Anything we can do to avoid it?

I'm still looking forward to getting the kids (and wife) off to bed later and firing up the updated PCars but this news has really p!ssed me off to be honest.

Default, on half of the cars i already changed the individual FFB myself.

Wow, 14 posts in this thread and 1141 in the ps4 thread. Is the ps4 really that much more popular?

Edit:i looked at the wrong thread, it was over 100 for ps4 not 1100.

It's the dominant platform i think. XB1 guys have not yet received the patch (globally). PC guys are probably too busy racing (or watching Jurassic World)

* Fixed an issue where custom vehicle setups were lost when progressing through sessions.

This has not been resolved for me on PC. Every time I try and get a working setup through the practice sessions in the Nissan LMP2 it reverts to default setup when I leave the pit's and the Tyres / Gearing / Camber etc are not how I set up either in my garage and saved in the dashboard or work done at the track in the pitbox. Very frustrating.

Pcars is a great game but I cannot do the endurance series without this fix.

Hi Guys thanks for the update, Received the update yesterday evening.

Firstly the update requiring the manual selection of pit strategy caused some confusion at first... No indication of this change is communicated in game, I Was caught unaware and this resulted in my vehicle attempting to enter the pit box then bounce back into pit lane mid race continually until I had slipped down through the placing's, believing the vehicle was colliding with unseen object repeatedly I elected to exit and restart the game. Lesson learnt the hard way I guess... Possible change in future update to GUI overlay to "Select pit strategy" may help new players.

The update for "where the player was sometimes given a large time penalty when exiting the pit lane" is one I am happy to see, was caught up in this one at least three times during one race receiving a time penalty equal to 3/4 lap time... not happy at the time... Thanks for the fix guys.

Since the update I have had two occasions where my controls (G25) have become un-responsive at handover to manual control on exiting the pits, requiring exiting and restarting Project CARS to resolve, had no such problems prior to the update... Hoping there is "easy" a fix for this one... ?

Lastly... Each time I attempt to launch a highlights replay I saved before the 1.4 patch, my video playback halts causing software to become unresponsive or crash and return to desktop.... Looking forward to a FIX for this one

Keep up the hard work, look forward to further improvements in the near future...

Kind Regards,

Boffin :)

Change manual settings for all cars where users can have their own liking? If you want to use Standard instead of peddles or sequential (like myself), you'll be able to skip gears when down shifting into a corner like: 4th-2nd, and as well be able to skip gears when up-shifting like 4th-6th.

Me thinks that this is down to the changes in the Replay Code ;) I don't think that "old before 1.4 Replays" will work correctly...
The New ones however should work :)

i only race with the oculus rift dk2 (helmet cam) . . . great experience but it needs a DRS light for ON/OFF , i dont care if there are no hand animations or not, because im not looking at my hands when im driving. . .

also at the start of a race there are no lights indicating the start of the race and no sound indicator of the lights counting down ( again oculus dk2 ) making starting a race from anywhere in the grid an absolute crash fest !

oh and an idea for camera view selection . . make it so that you can select what views you want active instead of having to cycle through all of them to get to the one/two that you need.

and how about having save slots for multiple car set ups like qualifying slot set up, race slot set up, wet weather qualify / race set up, and the ability to load them from the garage. . after all thats what the garage is there for isnt it ?

Why does it need drs on or off? You've either got the drs button pressed or you haven't.

Why does it need drs on or off? You've either got the drs button pressed or you haven't.

That's not how the DRS works. You just have to push the DRS button once and it stays activated until you're braking the next time. You don't have to hold the button.

No way! My poor thumb:) that explains a few spins whwn I've lifted off not braked! Can it be turned off with a press or only braking?

Thought you would of known how DRS worked..... Considering you have berated people for less....

I'm pretty sure you cannot close if unless you tap the brake. One way pneumatic hinge to open and then the power of airflow to close it.

Also posting it here for the purpose of having it mentioned in relevant threads;

* The AI will now show much more realistic grip loss when running on slick tyres in the rain.
* Ensure that the AI always pit when they need to change tyres based on the weather conditions.

Both are not fixed with 1.4, AI does not pit and keeps on setting dry laptimes on slicks in the rain:

For each new session I entered (practice 1, 2, quali 1, 2) and it seemed when changing tyres due to changing weather conditions caused setups to revert to default.

Just want to share my experience on the FFB setup after 1.4 patch, I'm just wondering if a full reset of wheel needed to be performed after patch. The situation is that i didn't reset my T300 and patch 1.4 gave me the whole new experience on the FFB especially when cornering, but after that I did reset my wheel for once and the previous feeling gone and the FFB strength is much more strong now even with my previous same setup....don't understand what's happening...anyone has the same experience as me?

In a pre-configured pit strategy, you cannot reduce fuel refilling below the amount required for the race. Additionally, when you manually change it during a pit stop, your selection seems to be ignored, and they still refill the tank.

Just to add more information in case is needed for developers. Hope it helps:

Issue in version 2.0:
CAREER MODE - GT3 'RUF':
- Practice Session 1/ Practice Session 2:
1- Edit Tuning settings
2- Run a few laps
3- Back to Edit
4- Edit Tuning again

Expected Behavior:
- Edited tuning settings displayed

Actual Behavior:
- All tuning settings are reset to its original values.

Note: This keeps happening even if I erase the Career and create a new career, exit the game and come back.

(Ver 2.0)
Another Issue which might be related to the previous one under the same Career mode is:
Pre-Conditions:
- Have a custom pit-stop strategy with your own tire pressures.

Steps:
1- Start race
2- Make a Pit-Stop using custom pit-stop strategy setup
3- Exit pit-stop and continue race

Expected Behavior:
- Car is using custom pit-stop strategy setup: custom tire pressures

Actual Behavior:
- Car is using default pit-stop strategy setup: default tire pressures.
- In my case, the tire pressures being used were much less than the custom tire pressures I had saved.
- Car was skidding all over the place.

I've just had this issue of reseted settings (PS4 - 1.4) :

It happens when i edit setup, run some laps, back to pits, back to edit setup = Reseted

When i finally end a session with edited settings, at start of next session it's reseted too (practice->qualify or qualify->race, same result).

I've determined that instances where I can't save the tune settings is due to have saved a setting from the garage and applied to all tracks. Any cars I have done this with will reset changes to the saved tune. Cars that I haven't saved a universal setting to work as expected. Hope this helps.

Great info but Not sure this is the whole story. I have recently run into this problem and do usually do a save to all tracks in garage to lock in FFB settings. It is not resetting to the currently saved tune for the track I'm on, but either to default or an old saved tune (not sure). I can confirm that a workaround is to make changes then exit session and then re enter. A bit slow. Tuning in free practice seems ok to
