Hi all,

Today I got my TX 458 delivered and a wheel stand pro. One big drawback, the usb cable is a bit short. I have to sit very close to my 55inch screen and that is a bit to large for such small distance.
So I need an USB extension cable. Does anybody know if this has to be a USB 3.0 cable or will a USB 2.0 be ok as well. The price tag of an USB 3.0 is a bit high compare to USB 2.0. I'm looking for a 5mtr cable.

Anybody an idea.

Ebay, everything's cheap there, I got an orb one, 3m not 5tho

Yeah but does it has to be an USB 3.0 or will a 2.0 be fast enough? Data transfer wise.

i'm no expert, but data transfer for a peripheral shouldn't require USB 3.0.

2.0 should be fine.

edit: actually, since it's an extension (because the TX has a dumb hard-wired lead), are you *sure* you need 5m? i play on a 55" screen as well, and while i could understand sitting a little further back than the included 6ft cable permits, sitting 22ft away seems a bit extreme. To each their own if that's the case; I just wanted to make sure you'd thought that through :p

Yeah exactly my thoughts. But to be sure. ;)

You're right. 3mtr is more than enough. I ordered a 3mtr that is 9ft if I'm correct.

So I thought I needed an extension so I could sit on my couch and race, so I ordered a 9' usb3.0 extension from Amazon for around $7. Then I decided I liked sitting close to the screen. Go figure.

Thanks for asking this (and thanks for the replies as well) because I have the same problem. I have to scoot the sofa up closer to the TV so it would be great if a USB extender cable would work. In my case, I only need a few feet.

You have two USB ports in the back of the Xbox, you can even put another USB multi-port into those and give yourself an extra 4 ports.

I use a vanilla 2m USB extension cable, it does seem to be a little bit higher quality than some of the cheapies. It's not USB3 ;)

Something like this (would prefer black, but the important thing was its longer than 1.5m and not a 5m cable and not too flimsy)

I get all my cables from monoprice.com. Great quality and can't beat the prices.

I'm sure you can find something here: http://www.monoprice.com/Search/Index?keyword=usb+male+to+female

Well I bought a USB 2.0 today but despite all positive reactions, it does not work with the TX wheel. I get no reaction from the wheel when using such extension cable. Wheel stays silence and looks dead. Once I remove it and plug it directly into the Xbox it works back again.

I hope it's not the case that the signal is just too weak to use an extension. Let us know what TM comes back with. How long is the cable you tried?

Have you tested the cable with something else? Might just be a dodgy cable.

I bought a USB 2 extension cable for my T500RS because I needed to get out of my seat every time the wheel went bezerk.
Pre 1.4 that meant A LOT of times.
With the extension I could disconnect and reconnect while sitting.
But the point is: USB2 is good enough.

Btw: I'm not using it anymore because patch 1.4 solved my wheel issues...

Looks like a Dodgy cable indeed. Just put it between my mobile phone and laptop and no signal as well...
This one goes back to the shop. Will keep you updated....

Different cable help needed here.
Ive just moved my bone over to my Audio processor which sounds brilliant. Problem is the usb cable that connects to my mad catz wheel is now too short. Anyone know where I can get one Maplins? I don't know what it's even called its usb to a round connector

Thnx
Oh ok hope it's as simple as that it's a strange connection catz wise Hard wired in and a 70 s circular one out. Only need a metre.
I remember when I had the self immolating txs they had stupidly short cables. At least the dat is pretty long but not long enough for me. Got so many cables and just spent a month tidying them all. Ok leaving the nordost cables on show but not the bone Lol

Just got home with a new USB 2.0 cable and this one works without any problems.. It is a slightly shorter one as they had no 3mtr length in stock. The one I have now is 2.5mtrs. Back on track now. ;)

guys, i m planning on getting an extension cable for my mad catz wheel, should i get an extension cable that supports external hard drives? i see few that don't support external hdd,
will that create an issue?

Cheers.

guys so no latency issues using a usb extension cable with a wheel?

cheers.

No issues as far as I can tell. Any additional prop delay caused by the cable is going to be in milliseconds. Sorry I don't know about the other question you asked about a cable that supports external drives. I thought they all did.

thats nice, good theere is no noticeable delay. Will go ahead & buy an extension cable, only need 1 meter so shouldn't be a problem.

Just try your USB 2.0 cable. I have it also on my t500rs-hub-TH8A on a USB 3.0 port and it works just fine

I use USB 3.0 active extension cable from company Newnex for USB 2.0/3.0 extender.
