Man I love this guy as much as I love the game.

I know there are a lot of people who hate him because of the way he expresses himself on this forum. For me, his comments are pure gold. He's not that typical PR guy full of BS. He's honest, and he's not afraid to say what he thinks. In a world full of fake people, I respect this guy for being himself.

Also, there are not many game companies in the world that allow you talk directly to the head of the studio.

This is why SMS are the best in the business.

I agree. Not prone to stating this sort of thing in public very often but Chewbacca sort of hits the spot for me..brusque attitude and quite scary "growls" towards the naysayers included..

Don't poke the "wookie" or else! :friendly_wink:

Agree. I think Ian is evoking hate or love. Personally I really like guys that are direct and honest. To some others that capacities seems to arouse unsureness and bitterness. I feel sorry for those that don't like the Wookie, because in my mind they are narrow in their minds. ;)

Certainly a very unique head of studio. Keep up the good work!!

I'd much rather have a guy running a company who's straight forward and calls it like he sees it than one who gives politically correct answers and tries to be "liked" by everyone.

I'd say Ian fits the bill of the former fairly well and hope he doesn't change.

I think a lot of people maybe take him too literally at times. Overall thanks for being so up right and honest about things.

It is interesting to see the complaints that SMS should use better 'PR' - as in people actually prefer the fuzzy fake coddling that usually goes on.

From what l can tell, he seems to be a great Head of Studio and the perfect link between his team and the community.
A very helpful, yet funny, often sarcastic but determined man, who takes every member of his community seriously and always tries to please everyone.

It sounds cheesy, but its true, l have never experience such community and l'm glad to be a part of it.
So thank you Ian and Team for making this happen, its really something! :)

No no, you're doing it wrong.

Just to clarify, this was a joke in reference to a post Ian made about insulting people using historical figures.

Ian Bell "We should make an exception for Yoda. I like that little green guy."

Sorry if anyone took offence to it.

And once again missed sarcasm /humor /reading comprehension threatens to bunch panties.

It was pretty easy to miss there given it needed context to explain it properly.

Also, think how 'head dick' my be rearranged and you can see a non-positive reaction there...

Use those smileys and /s thingies people!

Once again someone thinks its the easiest thing in the world to recognize sarcasm in written form, without a face to judge by.
He could've at least quoted Ian or put emoticons in his post.

This thread is a bit creepy.

Why?
Its to warm Wookie's heart.
Not creepy at all, is it? :p

ChrisK you pay for the colour and perm .

I'll get him some nice Lingerie and some high heels , I'm not so sure about the Lingerie , all that hair protrusion could be a turn off. :)

Life has proved, there are not many evil or stupid people, so I have to disappoint you. I'd say he can afford it. And the PR guys with their BS can't act differently...
I was in a situation when I could affort being open and honest, technical and scientifical. Today I am in a situation, where mighty forces again and again (and they are also forced) force me to act like I wouldn't act as a breathing human being. IOW: I have to puke@job once every day, but cannot do anything (except searching a different job, but situation is often the same).
It's just not all as easy as it seems.
Only thing I'm happy is that I don't need to do brown nosing (btw in Germany we call it "ass crawling"), because my interest in getting a better position is at exactly zero.

A bosschap went down, amongst the people, into a miasma of conflict and sycophancy.

I've been a gamer since 1982 and I've never come across an experience like this. Yes, I've played through amazing games during that time, but this is the first 'Amazing' game that I've had discussion access to the head of development and the development team. It's a game changer, it really is. To be able to understand the nuances of tire composition and wear rates from Doug and take part in shaping changes in these areas among other things with other parts of the development team. It's fantastic.

Ian's openness is a breath of fresh air and it's clear that he cares, why else would he even be here commenting. Also, wicked sarcasm which helps me through the day ;)

WMD, I love this approach to games development

Still, if he's brave enough to come on here and take it on the chin, I applaud the effort :)

Wookie love. Isn't there laws against that sort of thing?

You have to admire his dedication to the community, as much as the game itself.
