There's two questions that I would like to ask. Firstly how hot is too hot for the brakes? And secondly do different cars have different optimal running temps for the brakes?
Thanks

ThanksHow hot is too hot depends a lot on the type of brake discs used in the car (carbon brakes would be fine at temperatures where steel discs would be suffering), and that also answers the second question: Yes, there are differences between cars.

I can't however list them off the top of my head.

You can take 400 - 600 C for steel brakes and 600 - 900 C for carbon brakes as a rough orientation for the optimal temperature.

Everything above 750 C for steel and 1100 C for carbon brakes is too hot.

Am I assuming that the road cars use steel and the race spec use carbon or is it not like that

Not really. Lmp1 and formula A and B use carbon, but the Audi R8 V10+ and the McLaren P1 use carbon brakes too. Gt3 cars on the other hand have vented steel discs.

Use the telemetry ui screen and adjust your brake ducts to make the brake symbol stay green.

I once forgot to open the brake ducts after qualifying in a gt3 race, after around 7 laps I lost massive brake power due to overheating brakes. The temps were around 600C and up.

I'm guessing that's why the GT3's don't lock up as much?
