Not sure what it is, but all this talk of Battlefield reminds me how much better Battlefield & CoD where when they were based in WW2.

Ah those were the days....... charging a trench with nothing but a bayonet & a plan. Now it's all about jet packs, loadouts & 'perks'. :(

486-days, My first was Wolfenstein then quickly moved to Doom. Took a break after Doom2 and then got busy with Counter-Strike1.6 in mid 2000s during Pentium days.

Mine was Q3A and it's still my favorite. I used to play a mod called freeze tag. It was a team game and when you frag somebody they turn into a big block of ice. They could then be thawed by a teammate standing next to them for 3 seconds (which feels like forever). We also discovered that frozen bodies could be moved around with the gauntlet (and also the shotgun). So if you froze somebody, you'd gauntlet them into a corner where you could guard them. Somebody else comes in, you freeze them too and eventually there's a big pile of frozen bodies. First team to freeze everybody on the other team wins.

Amazing how much more fun those simple mods were over the way OTT perks etc these days.
When we played MOH We used a mod called MOH Ball, we had so much fun it turned into a friday night regular meet, with lots of beer !
Oh those were the day's. ..

LAN Parties! A friend of mine ran the computer network for the Math Dept at a major university that I probably shouldn't name. So we used to get a bunch of friends together in the computer lab when it was closed and play Q3, UT, etc. until the sun came up.

Brilliant !

I am too old and way too slow these days to play fps anymore but those days hold memories I will always cherish.

I loaded up COD1 last year and could not believe my luck when I found a full server, still was not the same though, sitting there refreshing your favourite server over and over trying to get in and reading all the mp chat of what players were doing to each other's mums and calling each other noobs etc Lol !!

Started with Doom & Doom 2 in my Childhood (I think it was when I was 7-9 years old). And then just gone with the times, like Unreal, then UT, Quake, Counter Strike, ... me and a mate even downloaded all sorts of Mods for Doom 2 via the old 56k Modems some years later - that took so loooong. And I think my mates parents wanted to choke us for the telephone bill :D

And now I'm back to this: http://www.moddb.com/mods/brutal-doom/addons/project-brutality
I came full circle I guess.

Half Life and Counter Strike for me.

So many happy hours spent in front of a hot monitor . . . I still have my passes for i7, i9 and i10 somewhere, those were the days playing with clan -=RA=- on wireplay and getting our butts kicked by 4K at every opportunity.

Yeah, I know I'm old and way too slow for competitive FPS these days.

Just seen this thread, spotted that, recognised it from your screenshot in the OP. I really enjoyed that game, dropping into Mogadishu from a chopper, sweeping the streets of baddies. The best thing I remember was that there wasn‘t any movement or vibration in the rifle sights, so you could carefully line up your sights on some distant rooftop badguy and take him out.
Great game from a time before we were inundated with such things.

First FPS for has been Wolfenstein 3D (I was like eight back then) until my mom discovered it and had my dad lock it with a password. I returned later with Quake (around 1997), then a little later Half-Life, Unreal and Kingpin: Life of crime (1998 - 2000). After that... the usual things. Unreal Tournament, Counter Strike, Postal 2 and so on up to todays FPS.

As for Wolfenstein - I can't remember playing it correctly. I died. I died a lot. And I was scared shitless by it. But still - I played it again and again until my mom... yeah. Already told ya.

last time i played an FPS over a long amount of time was wolfenstein enemy territory, i sometimes wish i could go back to those days, always fun. wondering whats happening next.

i used to be known under the name of 5N34kYB4ST42D in multi color letters and [M.I.A]Infiltrator in all black. used to run with Fearless Assassin's at one point.

first second of play someone being a panzern00b! xDD oh these were good old days. i used to be exceedingly difficult to pin down when i was on it hence the names, m.i.a. is not a clan tag, but rather the acronym for missing in action. i used to stand on top of the door around the back on seawall gun, within 45 seconds of the match going live, i had already blown the gun. but sometimes it doesnt always work. but getting behind enemy lines is always something i have been able to do in the past and some people got wise to it after a while. oasis was a lot of fun as shown in the video, that spawn point is the perfect place to setup arty strikes and airstrikes.

but i have played a lot of FPS over my time, i guess the first one i played was corridor 7, sort of space version using the doom engine.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z17pEEGh79A

but i also played quake 2 quite a bit doing jumps maps, always a lot of fun.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UgsiSY9pZEM

but i also enjoyed bf2 as well as another stand out.

used to be very good at taking down jets with tanks, not kidding, it takes patience, luck and knowing how fast the shell is going with a probable prediction of where the player in the jet is going.

major time nostalgia! xD

First 'FPS' that I can remember playing is Wolfenstein 3D - there might have been others before that but that's the one that sticks in the memory :). Really looking forward to the new DOOM - the footage released so far looks completely mental :D.

I remember playing Doom a few times as a kid, but I didn't overly enjoy it. GoldenEye was the first FPS that I actually got hooked on and since then, I've played through numerous shooters. Perfect Dark, Halo, Bioshock, etc. Pretty much any FPS that had a solid single player campaign as I'm not much into online multiplayer.
