Quick question Dave.

For the upcoming Formula gulf Championship, will each driver be using a different decal/#number car, or will it be free choice?

With 20 different decals apart from the two project cars decal cars, there's more than enough to go around.

Thanks.

Hiya Everyone
I have just realised that the times have been changed from Formula Rookie and the race doesn't start until after 9pm UK time.
My window for racing on a Tuesday is 6pm to 9pm and I have to go back to work at 9pm.
I am going to see if I can alter my work rota.
I will definitely miss tonight's race. I will let you know if I can make it in future.
Gutted! :(

Problem solved.
As well as being a goddess and a stone cold fox, my wife has offered to do my work this evening so I can race.
One of the perks of running a business with your wife.
I knew there was a reason why I married her. ;)

What kind of laptimes are we knocking out? I'm down to 1:55.083 if I really hook it up. I get a feeling that's not quick enough.

Sorry - typo. But thanks for checking. I wouldn't be the first time I practised the wrong circuit.

It should read 1:35.083. Still not fast enough though. Heavy breaking and turning in are tricky for me. Trying to solve this before we start.

As we have no ABS or SC, my tip is to get a stable setup. Get as much grip from suspension and tyres as possible (go as soft as you dare on both).

Map buttons for brake balance forwards and brake balance backwards as well. You may need to change these during the race.

You may want to minimise tyre wear too in which case you will want to raise your tyre pressures and soften dampers.

Really enjoyed that, apart from pitting three times. 1 - Drive through which seems to be the longest pitlane ever!!! 2nd was normal was flying at this point with Tic tac, went in the pits together he came out first:confused: managed to claw my way back to 4th then was going to run out of fuel....in for a splash and dash down to sixth. At least I have fastest lap and pole so few extra points!!

Quite like monaco but not sure I am excited about next week----caaaaaarnage!!!!!!

yes it was fantastic so much happening but once again
drivers coming back on the track when other drivers
coming past. i was in 7th and someone (have to watch
video) come back on the track smashed into me put me down to 9th
put i still enjoyed it.

So sorry I had to leave but could not do more than a couple of laps, without being out of breath, feeling really upset as racing online is my only passion I have left, will try again next week and see how things go, and tomorrow with the ginettas if its to much for me I might have to pull out of racing online, and i will be totally gutted.

What a great start to the season. Superb race last night. Love the pit stop element. Pexy pitted to get out from behind me so I pitted next lap to cover his move. It worked too until I made a mistake on the out lap. Superb fun running strategy on the fly.

I hope you feel better soon Brian. Hang in there fella.

Hey guys!

Just here to let you know i will be setting up a lobby tomorrow night.
For a practice session round Monaco, setting up at Monaco can be a job, do you go hard/soft, long/short, stiff/soft, high/low.
Anyone interested is free to join, it will be a private lobby so let me know and i'll shoot an invite out.

Good chance to get some setup tips i'm happy to help, as come race day its each man for himself muhahaha. I'm just kidding

Note: There will be no quali or race just a 90min practice session, Lobby opens at 7:30 pm Sunday night.

what's the weather for tonight Dave?

Skanda-Five
29-09-2015, 14:46
What's the rules for pit exits tonight? The reason I ask is because I think that we have 2 potential problems.

1. The racing line runs straight through the pit exit.
For those racing on the start/finish straight, If you don't go out to the left hand side, you actually drive through the pit exit lane.
In single player you are ghosted when exiting the pits but I haven't tested multiplayer yet.
Does anyone know if drivers exiting the pits are ghosted in multiplayer?
If they are not, there could be some carnage here.

2. The pit lane exit cuts the first corner if you stay within the lines.
When exiting the pits you should stay to the right of the yellow line until after turn 1. This effectively cuts the track.
In single player you have your laptime invalidated (no big deal) but I haven't tried multiplayer. Do you get a penalty for cutting turn 1?
I don't want a penalty for following the pit exit rules.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

TitactiK
29-09-2015, 15:21
Yes Players are ghosted exiting from pits in multiplayer.

And I've been getting lap tmes invalidated staying right of yellow line, but in actual race been getting a 5 second penalty

zorbical

So we have to keep to the left when exiting the pits to take the first corner

Skanda-Five
29-09-2015, 15:46
Rules or no rules, I won't be getting a penalty for staying in the pit exit lane.

I propose that if we are ghosted on exit, we just exit the pits and and take turn 1 on the racing line as safely as we can.
Ignore the pit lane exit markings and use your mirrors and your brain together.

It may be useful to have the track map on your HUD if you don't already have it enabled.

I'll raise this in the lobby before free practice so we can get a consensus.

Im going to test to see if i can stay within the yellow line, then stay left of the line but right of the curb and see if i just get an invalidated lap. I'll post on here what i find.

Edit: ok does not work, in a race staying anywhere right of the curb at San de vot will fetch you a 5 second penalty.

I think if we will all get the 5 second penalty for staying right of the yellow line, no one is really gaining or losing anything.
Like you say Skan, work it out in the lobby see what Dave and the guys think.

YES you have done it i have added you to the drivers section rookie and gulf 1000
i will need a car number both rookie and gulf 1000 from you and you stick with that car throughout the season.
welcome to the championship.

I'll take #5 for the Rookie.

Not confirmed I can do F.Gulf just yet, I have existing commitments on Tuesday that may or not change. If someone else wants the spot, give it to them. I'll be able to let you know either way by Sunday at the latest.

Hey Guys!

Just here to let you know, about the pit exit at Laguna Seca. If anyone was curious.
You can use the pit exit, going all the way round the inside of turn one, without receiving lap invalidation
Or a time penalty. So all is good.

hmm so having never used tc, what is the scale.. the higher the more it works? so would that not be better in wet.... will there be rain i practice?

Totally aware I'm not part of this league but stumbled across your question and thought I'd help out.

The traction control setting in the tuning screen is 'Traction Control Slip'. You can chose between 1% & 15% in 1% increments. If you have it set at 1% the TC kicks in almost immediately. If you have it set at 15%, the wheels are allowed to spin a certain amount before the TC kicks in.

In the dry I have it somewhere between 12-15% but in the wet you'll want it a lot lower than this, maybe <5%. The lower the setting the more consistent you can be but lower it too much and you'll take an age to get up to speed.

Of course this is different from car-car, track-track and driver-driver.

As for times race pace your looking at anything from low 44's to mid 45' in dry conditions

hmm so having never used tc, what is the scale.. the higher the more it works? so would that not be better in wet.... will there be rain i practice?

The higher you have it 15% is as high as it goes i believe the car allows more wheelspin before tcs kicks in.
So this would only hinder you in wet conditions, i tend to run anything between 1% an 5% in wet conditions depending on track and how heavy the rain is to.

Plus if there is rain raising the ride height will help stop aqua-planing.
Rain always makes setting up a huge dilemma, if it rains at all.

I saw forecast this morning its cloudy with 70% chance of rain

Skanda-Five
13-10-2015, 10:52
I managed a 1:45.5xx in practice on a heavy fuel load. Not sure how repeatable that is.
As for the rain, I'm running low downforce in my dry set up so I have a big choice to make.

If Dave sets rain as a weather condition, do we get to know about it before the race starts?

glad i asked i thought it was the other way round, 1 being low and 15 being high. do rain tyre work at the same temps or do they run colder, presume we need two pitstop options.

I've created 2 pit strategys a dry and a wet.
If you kept the same pressures on wets as to what you had on drys.
Then you would see a substantial change in tyre temps.

I run for example 1.30 bar on fronts in the dry
In the wet maybe 1.20 or 1.15 bar to get enough heat into the tyres

After looking on other threads they appear to have issues when having wet/dry races. The tyres are not correct when a pit stop is completed!
I guess that we will have to wait and see.

I have done some pit stop practice and have yet to have this "bug" affect me.
I did have one occasion where I just drove through the pits and didn't stop though.
A lot of people don't know how to do pitstops correctly. My advice is to try it in a single player race first.
2 strategies does seem the way to go although how much fuel to include is a headache.

Yes refueling in pitstops is a bummer, not like F1 of old refuel change tyres at same time.
In this game you have to wait for them to put fuel in then they change the tyres.

Though at the glen, im able to a whole race. 20laps on 1 tank of fuel about 27 ltrs. so no refueling for me.
This maybe a way to go if you dont mind the heavy car that is.

I wanted to avoid having to carry the extra fuel but honestly I don't think I'm quick enough for it to make a big difference.

Will it defiantly do a full race on a full tank, how much fuel is left?

Also, could it just be dry in practice and quali and then wet in the race or vice versa? And if so does it automatically pick the correct tyres for the race.

I did 20 laps with 30 ltrs and at end of race was left with 3.4 ltrs.
Of course each driver is different some may use more some less. But i think whatever it is everyone should be able to do a 1 tank run if the chose to.

As for rain you'll have to ask dave. I just checked weather forecast. Still cloudy but rain chance has dropped from 70% to 20%
I've created 2 pit strategy just incase there is rain. This way it avoids any problems that may occur with wrong tyres etc
Just simply switch to second strategy and i know for sure wets will be put on.

hi i put in 2 weather slots
the game decides when they change
time progression - real time
remember we are on this for at least 2.5 hours so
light cloud will start then rain could come in the qual or the race
i dont know.

TitactiK
13-10-2015, 16:13
For those who may not know
Just like to add that each weather slot lasts for 60 mins in real time

With a 2 min morping stage. Well they say that but i think its more like 5 mins.

So for example you have:

Slot 1 = light cloud
Slot 2 = Rain
55 mins into slot 1 you would see rain starting to appear then at 60 mins it will be full on rain.

I know some like to know when rain might come in sessions so.
Hope this helps you out guys in future races whether it be league racing or just racing in lobbys

Catch ya later :encouragement:

Thanks for this, I didn't really know how the weather slots worked. So with a weather multiplier that reduces the 60 min slots to whatever you multiply by, then they just loop back round.

TitactiK
13-10-2015, 17:01

This circuit reminds me of Magny Cours. 5 straights connected by slow corners.
1:35.xxx is my best so far but I know there's more time out there.

I have 2 setups and I can't decide which I like more.
one is mid downforce and one is low downforce.
The mid is more stable but the low is better for overtaking (and less wear on the tyres).
At this rate I may just flip a coin!

I think I'm going to go mid in qualy and low for the race.

Consistant laps. That's usually my strategy. I'm not as fast as the top drivers but my race pace is usually good.
I sometimes pick a setup that's slower but more stable. Got on the podium at Monaco by doing that.

I think it was Barry Sheene who said "To finish first, first you have to finish."
And I always remeber the Formula 1 adage "You can't win a race in the first corner but you can lose it."

Bang in the laps and capitalise on everyone else's mistakes.

Thanks for the race gents! Bit gutted with the crash on first corner but at the end of the day there was nowhere for me or the other guy to go :(. Racing incident! Unfortunately after that my cars top speed went from 143 to 133 on pit straight and the car was pulling to the left under breaking. Fortunately my first pit stop fixed it pulling to the left when accelerating but the breaking issue stayed.
Highlight of my race was chasing someone down from 30seconds behind, but other than that I was all alone on the track for most of the race.
Congratulations to Titactik on the win!
Looking forward to the next race

I had a superb battle with Brankster last night. We swapped places several times each in a single lap and never touched once. Superb driving Brankster!

I was excited about posting the replay but I was gutted when I watched it back and he's not in it.
That's another for the bug list.

I also got shunted off at turn 3 and the driver didn't give the place up and didn't even apologise. Come on guys read the rules please. This isn't public lobby racing.

Anyway still a great race though. I can't wait for Suzuka either. It's a proper race track.

Lol i wish.
Is tricky as you have the S curves, Dunlop & 2 Degners require good Mechanical grip and downforce.

But the exit of spoon all the way to first turn is flat out you can lose all the time you made up in the twisty section here
Just by being 10 mph down.

42 's to 43 's are the bench mark.

Still a lot of work to be done with tuning. I am aiming for 1.45s for now but there is so much time to be gained in the curves. For now i am going to focus on getting to know the track and the best lines through corners. Any tips greatly appreciated as this is my first experience with this track!

My advice forget the long speed section, focus on the twisty section. Get that dialed in
Then once you feel confident through it
Start tweaking the setup to accommodate the speed section.

And my golden rule
1 to 2 corners at 1st to 2nd gear minimum downforce
3 to 4 corners at 1st to 2nd gear medium downforce
5 to 6 corners at 1st to 2nd gear maximum downforce

Downforce on gulfs range from 0 to 21
So from 0 to 7 concidered as being minimum downforce
From 7 to 14 concidered as being medium downforce
From 14 to 21 concidered as being maximum downforce.

Hope it helps and as Harry Hogg would say "When the rear ends loose the cars fast, loose is fast and on the edge your outta control"

Catch ya later :encouragement:

Was it me? Know I shunted Brankster I think off at three but gave him the place back, thought we had some could wheel to wheel before I had to do my obligatory extra stop as I am too dumb to put enough fuel in the car!!!!!! Good racing by all enjoyed it even though I had a mare and can never seem to get a rythem with this circuit...stop start!

First turn try breaking down to 4th keep the revs up, let the car just roll to the outside don't try to force it. Down to 2nd for the 2nd corner nice and early lets you get back on the power quickly.

Practice that, then you can find you can go alot faster for instance for me
I dont break till im right on the corner down to 5th as i hit the curb down to 3rd for 2nd corner keeping rev's up
Exit of 2 is very forgiving so you can really push it.

I may setup a practice session this weekend, if your still having issues come join.
I'm happy to help with any issues you may have setting up or etc

Besides its alot easier to watch and copy. Rather than read and copy.

I know I can gain so much time if I can get a couple of corners nailed! I suppose it comes down to practice. H

I'm happy to do that dave, though we are a group so i wouldn't want to be the one to say we should.
I'd like everybody currently in the group to have a say and share their opinions and ideas.

On the plus side dave it would help, find out who really wants to take part.
I've seen a lot of time wasters put their name down but don't bother to show up.
What do you think. We are a group as i said but ultimately you started the whole championship the end decision should be yours.

I'll put a message out just like i did at Monaco.
