Ive posted this in the main forum as well. Can we please have an option to download racing cars only, I have no interest what so ever in any road cars. I only want the Wtcc BMW in this back yet have to shell out for a bunch of cars I don't want. It's not very 'on demand'!

The prices are extremely cheap for those DLC ... you dont have to drive them.

Look at iRacing ... a car cost over 10 bucks and a track is 15 ... here dlcs are between 3 and 5 bucks ...

Less than 3 for 5 cars? As I said in the 'physics of' thread, I'd have happily paid 3 just for the Yellowbird :D. The BMW 2002 is a hooligan of a car to drive, absolutely love it. All in all, a really nice selection of cars .

I agree :D

How/why they called it on demand, when by the sheer definition of the word, if defies it?

If anything it's procedural content, spoon fed to the users that they have absolutely no control over in any way shape or form (except, to buy or not to buy)

On demand should have been the entire DLC released in packs on day 1:

WTCC PACK
BTCC PACK
ROAD PACK
OPEN WHEEL PACK
PROTOTYPE PACK
CLASSIC PACK
GT SERIES

each containing cars and tracks.

Users can then consume whatever "expansion pack' they want, when they want it (on demand) It's shocking to think oval may not arrive until 2016 (spring)

Imagine going into Netflix (on demand) to watch house of cards, only to be told the next episode is out next month :D

"On demand" :D

I'd prefer the racing cars released to date in pack together, I haven't bought any packs due having cars that I don't want in it. This game is supposed to be about the community wants, and I know I'm not the only one who prefers racing cars only. Instead of paying what 15 to get all the packs and disregarding the road cars, I think it is reasonable to request a racing cars only option, maybe you increase the numbers buying into the dlc.

It maybe a dying trait in the modern world, but I don't particularly like paying for something I don't want, regardless of price.

Well, the BMW 2002 and Mustang 2+2 is also classed in Historic B along with Red Pig and Escort.

Both cars arent exactly classed as road cars but there are some confusion with the Mustang as it has road liveries but somehow it goes with Historic B touring cars.

I wont mind seeing Mustang being classed into Historic B. It seemed to fit the class well, IMO.

Cannot believe people are complaining about not being able to purchase individual cars because they don't want the others in the pack, the price is so cheap even if it had a Reliant Robin in there I would still buy them. SMS are trying to cater for all, some of us actually like driving the road cars to their limits. Some could say that the race cars are a tad boring to drive. I happen to like 'cars' in general and so will give anything a blast, even the A1 can be fun when thrown around some of the tighter tracks.

Thanks again for another great PCars DLC / update. The 3.0 update rocks too.... For those asking again for an Xbox update, seriously why buy for that platform it's the worst for this game (and most games it seems)? Would definitely go PC or PS4, especially for this.

Will there ever be new tracks? Even for money. I know it seems everyone has asked for a different track but living in the USA I would still *love* to see Pike's Peak (unique high elevation course, lots of turns) and Circuit of the Americas (USA F1 track).

For what it's worth, I'm in agreement with both mkstatto and Bealdor from the quotes in your post. If there was something that annoyed me about a particular DLC then I wouldn't buy it. The fact that I will barely ever drive the Mustang Fastback thingy is irrelevant to me, I was happy to pay the 2.95 just for the RUF CTR. That the BMW 2002 turned out to be such a lot of fun was a nice bonus. So, for me, the purchase of the pack was a no-brainer.

I cannot see how SMS could do it any other way, as you say yourself everyone has different opinions, therefore just having a race car only pack say, would alienate other users, at least with a varied car pack you can cater for all. Like I say it's so cheap even if you don't use half the cars it's still a bargain IMHO. If they were charging what another dev used to for recycled cars from previous iterations of a game I would agree.

So why didn't they say that in their twitter feed? Jeez, talk about building up false expectations. So, will this "Old vs New" thing for XBOX be available later today, or is it further down the line than that?

Nope...
I used the English definition of the words "on demand" and tried to see how they even remotely fit in to this scenario...

When unable to do so (due to semantics) i came up with a type of DLC that could be called "on demand" and provided it as an example.

Additionally, suggesting that day 1 DLC is a new concept? Really? :D
Also SMS themselves stated that they have held back content as they awaited licensing, so .... ;)

But I'll leave it there as the fact remains... "On demand" it is not...

If you still think it is, can I order the ovals, BTCC, WTCC please ;)

Yap , you're right. But if you go to garage and want to select your favorite livery you can't find it, cause its in Road.

Your hint helps, but this workaround is not a fix , and i have bad feeling that test department could not sort out this little bug in such a little DLC.
I am WMD member too, just for pcars2 and so i don't want to troll or flame.

There were 13 days between 3.0 release with all assets for DLC and today with little script updates and definition tables etc.
From time to time i think SMS has trolls inside the company.

One question, though, for anyone that has the DLC. How many livery schemes for the BMW TC?

Not sure on specifics. I got the invite as soon as I opened up my career. I deleted my profile when 3.0 came out and started again so I don't think the invitational has particularly high criteria. I've only done 4 and a bit seasons.

I hope that this happens not only with new save games but also with older savegames. I don` t want to see the same counting bug as with the invitationals for the 2- and 4-Teamchampionships... :uncomfortableness: neither want to start a new career

Indeed. Offering 5 cars for a price less than that of 1 car in, say, iRacing. Even if you like just one car of those five, it's a very good deal.

Probably SMS could sell single cars for $2 each, they would make more money that way. Thanks for the suggestion! :)

I would suggest that you find what everyone likes. Where I live, there are Mustangs everywhere. Personally, I love to see super/hyper cars and high performance race cars example lmp's, gt1's. The classics in this pack have been played in previous racing games many times before, so it is hard for me to get excited to see the same cars here in a dlc pack.

note: classics I prefer Shelby Cobra, Shelby Daytona, Gullwing and similar cars.

Then dont buy the this particular DLC then. For the price SMS are sellings these DLC packs compared to the competition it almost looks like charity, so I really struggle to understand why people are complaining about a good deal. And like any DLC if you don't like the content of the DLC then don't buy it, no need to be bitching about it.

Great pack for a fair price. I really love those vintage cars. They bring back old memories of my youth. Couldn't afford those dreams at thier times. but at least can drive them virtually now in pCars. Thanks for that!

However, one thing I don't understand: why it's so complicated to locate the purchase button. Had to search almost 20 minutes until finally discovered it. Why the hell the new package is not shown in the menue, where the game itself and all other so far released contend is listed? Why I can't buy it like I did for example with the Ruapuna expansion. It showed up there, when it was released. Simply had to push the "add to whishlist" or "purchase" button and was done. Not this time! For what do I have a search button for other DL-content, when the "Old VS New" package doesn't show up. Instead I have to search manually - landing on the announcement page in steam ..... and again have no purchase option! Finally found it more the less by happenstance.

Sorry, but I really don't get it, why something generally simple must lead to such an borderless odyssee. And reading this thread, I'm obviously not the only. Please next time make it as simple as it was with the previous DLC's! Thanks in advance.

Because one is an online only service that requires servers in order to operate what it provides while the other doesn't.

Comparing solely based on price alone is not only illogical but ignorant. It's like comparing a sub-based MMO to a single player RPG, they may have common features but are hardly comparable when it comes to pricing.

I was honestly surprised you need an argument because of how dissimilar these two games are financially.

Unfortunately, your answer doesn't make sense. iRacing already require a periodic subscription to cover server maintenance and game evolution. Why would part of this subscription would be included in the downloadable content?

I expected to see some arguments about how refine was the model and/or physics, but I suppose even people who find iRacing better in those aspects can't justify how much difference there is (frankly it's more like pcars dlc are cheap than iracing's are expensive).

On the other hand, iRacing seems to have lead a happy life with its economic model, so they have no reason to change.

They are not Uninstalling, they try to reinstall and fail. And that only happens with the limited edition and modified car packs. In both cases, go to your games folder, highlight pcars, press menu, select manage. You will see both DLCs with a fall to install message, select each, press A, reinstall. Done. That's assuming that a subscription service covers all their maintenance and further development of the game, which it likely doesn't. Hence why they charge for content on top of subscription. You likely pay for the development of the cars/tracks via purchasing them and the maintenance of the servers that run their services via the sub fee. You only think it doesn't make sense because you're assuming that a sub fee would easily cover the cost of their servers as well of the development of the game.

iRacing is a completely different game compared to the majority of other sims because you're paying for quality multiplayer above all else. If you want to compare pCARS dlc to other games at least compare it to something similar like Assetto Corsa. Bringing iRacing's fees into a conversation about the dlc costs of pCARS while ignoring other aspects is illogical because you're trying to compare things that aren't equal in terms of what they're providing.

We have no idea what is needed to cover server maintenance and constant platform development. The two games are simply not comparable in regard of pricing. You can compare tracks and cars quality, but that's about it.

You're assuming a lot in there, which is hardly a justification for higher DLC prices. IMO if they cannot cover their server costs with the subscription fees alone, putting server cost coverage in DLC pricing is a risky thing to do from a business perspective as there are no guaranteed, constant sales from DLC.

Covering further development of the game from the DLC revenue is the same for pCARS, so no argument for much higher DLC pricing.

Schadows
31-08-2015, 11:38
If you take the monthly subscription, it brings more to them in just a few month than most of games with a more traditional economic model. So yes, I think it's safe to assume it's more than enough to manage server maintenance.

Additional content price should depend on what it cost developing, no matter the type of game it is. That's why it make sense to compare DLC pricing between those games.
But as I said, I don't really find iRacing to have too much expensive prices. Pcars are very affordable, that's all. I'd rather have SMS sell their cars and track separately (because only 1 car interested me in each last 2 DLCs), but considering the price, that was not a problem.

I never said they're putting server cost into the purchase of the content. I said they're putting development cost into the purchase of their content. Sub fees likely cover server costs while content fees (cars/tracks) likely cover development costs.

And again, you're overlooking an aspect that's detrimental to your comparison, which is that they have literally zero initial buy in cost for their base content outside of sub fees. So they make practically nothing - and are likely losing money - on new subscribers until those subscribers buy content.

So again I'll say, unless you're willing to look at ALL of the aspects of the comparison it's not a fair comparison in any way. There's far more to it than simply saying iRacing dlc (which isn't technically dlc since you're not making an initial purchase of a game here) is more expensive than pCARS.

lacslyer
31-08-2015, 12:46

Where's your information on how much more they bring in compared to a game like pCARS based on sub fees alone? I'm not even sure how to discuss this because we have no information either way, but you're more willing to assume that they're gouging customers than I am which is based on my knowledge of what it costs to maintain server costs for a typical company. Even with that though, that's irrelevant when you look at what you guys are insisting on doing in comparing the two games when there's so little comparison between them to really do so fairly.

As I said to Remco, you can't compare "DLC" of iRacing to pCARS since it's not traditional DLC handled in the same manner. They don't have an initial flat charge for the game's base content like pCARS does, and instead charge a sub fee.

My entire point to this is there's far more to it than you guys are leading on and comparing the two games in the way you're attempting just isn't logical for obvious reasons. If you think iRacing is expensive that's fine, I haven't used it in months but agree that it CAN be expensive if you're not smart with your purchases. But this whole concept that you can compare the two because they're both sim racing games just doesn't work when you actually look at all the aspects with an unbiased perspective. There's so many differences that you can't simply compare costs alone.

There's just far more to it than you guys are willing to admit.

Yeah you can compare

Pcars gives you 5 cars in a DLC pack for 3 and thats it (+ a free car)

Iracing gives you a car for $11.95 as well as a $49.50 yearly subscription fee. And if you don't pay that fee you don't have access to that said DLC any more.

I never understood how game companies for online services that have monthly subscription fees can have the audacity to charge for DLC content or expansion packs (world of warcraft). You use that extra content to draw more people into your subscription service or to keep people staying on your service.

Its like if Netflix started to charge you for individual films as well as the monthly charge

Let's not forget that the games you mentioned are pc only games, were players don't have to pay anything to play online? Unlike MS and Sony, players have to pay already, we don't want to have to pay again. "Thats a Fact"

What tickles me is how they PC's come here and say " you should be happy Pcars don't charge $49 like Iracing" I say, " We pay Sony or MS $49.99 for prime membership to play online, okay." Theres no need to come on here to assume everyone is being undercharged.

And for Iracing $11 cars, I think Pcars has a smarter idea ($3.49 car packs) because they are going after a broader audience (pc,xbox and ps4).

That's completely different though the PSN/XboxLive subscription fee gives you services and MP for all games on that platform, and is not a singular game subscription like Iracing. Yeah Pc have it good that we don't have a platform holder that makes you pay for online services (Microsoft are trying hard to do that), but that's one of the advantages of an open platform.

Now here is a scary thought, just imagine if Iracing came to the consoles. You would have your PSN/Live fee + Iracing subscription fee + DLC cost and if either of the two previous subscriptions isn't paid you can't have access the DLC you bought or even play the game.

I personally feel that Iracing is a complete rip-off and uses a subscription fee model for a game that doesn't need it, purely to milk more money and give this feel of exclusivity and " premium service". Its not a MMORPG that has massive server costs to maintain. Its not really being kept up to date and cutting edge and they give you very little car content and charge you for additional cars and tracks.

If people like paying for that then fair dos, but for me it doesn't matter how good it is if its a complete rip off

R74NN
31-08-2015, 19:02
Well, the thing is iRacing offers something that no one else does for the money - competitive, structured and reasonably clean online racing. I'm not arguing if it's expensive or cheap, but currently it is only platform of this kind. And you simply can't directly compare the prices because you are buying something quite different.

And by the way, the net code of iRacing is the best out there, so technology (except the graphics for now) is very up to date.

Sub fees likely cover server costs while content fees (cars/tracks) likely cover development costs.
...
And again, you're overlooking an aspect that's detrimental to your comparison, which is that they have literally zero initial buy in cost for their base content outside of sub fees. So they make practically nothing - and are likely losing money - on new subscribers until those subscribers buy content.
Please don't take it personally, this is pretty naive to think the subscription fees only cover the server maintenance. Of course part of the fees does, but the rest fund other things like the continuous development cost, and also provide profit.
This is no charity, this is business (asking for $0.50/hour for hosting a private race is the perfect example of that).

The initial "flat" charge has nothing to do with it, because the more time the player subscribe, to more they earn, and competitive games like iRacing tends to keep their subscribers for a lot of months.
And I don't have to remind you about the low amount of content in the base game (10 tracks and 6.5 cars).

you're more willing to assume that they're gouging customers than I amAgain, I never said anything like it was a rip off or something like that, I even defended their prices to some extend.
Just stating a fact, their DLC are more expensive, even considering some external facts.

There's just far more to it than you guys are willing to admit. That's funny, I was about to say the same thing u__u

I like what iRacing brought to the sim racing genre, with very competitive leagues, strict reputation system for clean races, game content you can purchase individually to suit your taste, and the best netcode / online experience you can ever experience until now.
Considering those choices aimed at hardcore sim racers, it's obvious they have less "players" that most games, hence having to sell their product a more expensive to get profits.

Bought the DLC, both mustangs are awesome. Only one problem, exposure too bright in the cockpit view on both cars. Didn't test the other cars yet.

Edit: tested, all cara except the 2002 have the same problem.
Edit2: seems like the problem is with Watkins Glen

I dont know if its the time the car was build in real life,
But the mustang 2+2 fastback, RUF Yellowbird have 0% brake duct.

So the brakes always overheat when u go fast.
Is this normal?

Great job SMS! Just took both Mustang's for a spin. Absolutely fantastic! Reminds me of 18 yrs ago when I got my 89' GT Stang in 1997. I'm sitting here banging out gears with my Thrustmaster TH8A shifter & T3PA pedals :)

The 2 + 2 Mustang probably had drums all the way around for the brakes (I remember my dad's 66' Pontiac GTO having drums all the way around). That might be the reason why with the old Mustang. Seeing how it doesn't have disc brakes (I'm pretty sure they didn't).

A K-Code gt would have had front disc brakes. I had one. It was part of the gt package.

Brake ducts on road cars in those days -generally no.

I tell you those 89GTs are epic we have one in our family. Sister was given it brand new, I got it at 21 while in school. It's an auto but I tell you. Right now it's with my dad, he also has a 93 LX as well that's a manual.

Okay well i can't argue with that.

I do love driving it around nordschleife, doesnt have short hard braking zones. Atleast not so much that brakes overheat.
It has long full throttle zones.
God i love that car its so sexy.

And the yellowbird, drives so wierd. Same as the new free car RUF Rt12 both rear ends want to catch up with nose while cornering.
Havent found a setup to counter this movement. Same aa fastback, the yellowbird is sexy as hell xD

Using Jack Spades numbers, I couldn't get either one of them to turn. I even raised the arm angle to 1500 on the fastback and it still wouldn't turn. The BMW 2002 was the same way. I haven't driven the Yellowbird yet.

When the fastback got even a little contact it wants to go up on two wheels or turn completely over. That can't be right can it?

I don't think it's naive to believe that sub fees are just covering server costs, especially when the majority of sub fees get so heavily discounted for the consistent players. As well, the higher cost of "dlc" suggests that it covers development costs. Yes, it's about business, but I'm not the one who keeps bringing up this ridiculous comparison of iRacing's costs to pCARS with no regard for the majority of factors in it outside of the cost of the two games.

The initial flat charge has everything to do with it when you're simply attempting to compare game costs of these two games.

You can claim low content all you want regarding the initial product available, however you're obviously excluding the sole reason people pay for iRacing, the best multiplayer system available for sim racers. Something no other sim has remotely come close to implementing. That can't simply be left out just because it's not a tangible object.

I'll leave this to a simple disagreement because of the inability for either of us to provide hard evidence of the financial side of iRacing. My point was not whether or not iRacing is more or less expensive, but that comparing these two games on player costs alone is absolutely ridiculous.

When does this come out for PS4 in the U.S.?? I've checked every day for at least a week now, both through the Playstation Store and the OnDemand function through the game and it's the same 8 add ons that have been there since the Audi Track Expansion. What am I doing wrong here? My game is up to date with all the latest patches...

Some times psn mess things up in the store front. You can buy dlc on the website and than download on your console.

Usually, I don't bother to purchase hidden DLC, unless it is very special. because if I ever had to re-download my content, that one that is not properly filed in the store would be forgotten.

A Sony representative stated this issue with the un-organized content is with Bondai. But why would Bondai be responsible for their catalog? strange.

Yeah I can't see the new DLC from my PS4 but can find it on the web site if I search for "old vs new car pack". Like the PS4 is does not show up associated Project Cars on the web. Seems like a potential data entry issue.

But when going to the playstore from the ps4 menu it comes up.
That is how I downloaded the DLC myself.

So much about these DLCs' ... just download them, and enjoy the cars and tracks !!!

Haven't tested the RUF (it needs the Ring, and that one requires time), but the other cars are good ... but the old Mustang is not easy to drive !!!
