In the windows setting i have it on 3840 2160 it says that's recommended. Should i set it to 4096 2160.

Do you have another dvi adaptor so you can try plugging it into that instead of using the hdmi? If I remember correctly that offers higher performance then the hdmi can both in hz and resolution. If I remember right hdmi in 4k only does 30hz and dvi can do 60 and support up to 8k but don't quote me on that.

Sorry meant display port I can never keep them all straight.

Woffu... Make sure the Windows 10 DVR is Off!!! Thats a Real PC Hog!!! also if you are using 2x Game DVRs EX: Share play and Windows DVR it Will Screw things up.... Check to Make Sure only 1 Game DVR/Replay Recording program is active<--- I believe this to be the problem i had with My PC performing Sluggish and Stuttering when i tried Windows Anniversary update when it rolled out months ago.

Same for FPS counters AfterBurner and the Steam FPS counter running at the same time will Kill PC performance and cause Stuttering.... Check to make sure only 1 FPS counter is active.

4096 2160 No Good even if TV supports it...Its Not as good a puctue as 3840 2160----> its a math equation thing the latter is easier for your TV to calculate so it gives better Picture Quality but most of all results in faster response time....My TV plays 4096 2160 also i tested and reserched this a few Months ago....i made a few post about it many pages back.. Probly some time between sept and Oct:confused: but 3840 2160 is the way to go.... There is pleanty info about it if you Google it.

From what you've mentioned, it seems that you're going back and forth in the game, switching between VR and regular viewing mode. Question, are you adjusting the graphics settings when you do this, or are you using the same settings for VR that you use for regular view? Also, have you tried reducing the graphics settings to the lowest, to see if it's still stuttering? If not, that's the first thing you should try now to compare.

That should be fine, if that's what windows recommends. What's the resolution set for in-game? The screen/resolution resetting when transitioning from game session to menu is normal. How your TV handles that signal break can vary. What type of TV do you have? Do you have a PC monitor you can use/try for reference right quick?
Yea I adjust the graphics settings when switching between vr and regular viewing mode and iv tryed using low settings and high settings but still the same just looks better on high when it's not stuttering.
The resolution in game is 1080 for vr then for normal viewing on tv i use 3840 x 2160.
I have a LG 65" UHD smart LED tv i got it last November/ December. No i don't have a pc monitor only my old plasma tv that's about 6 years old the signal doesn't drop out on the old one but vr still plays up on the old tv as well

Should the display port display in 2160 or only 1080?

I hooked mine up the other way around because I didn't care about the monitor. The only thing I really use it for is when I'm not in a game. I'm sure its like a lot of things with mixed opinions but a lot of guys are hooking the rift to the display port. From what I read the reason it has a hdmi is a matter of ease of use for the broadest customer base.

Check your hdmi cable for your tv. Apparently some of them don't work as they should. Look at the reviews on amazon and the issues caused by them when used with tvs and pcs. Theres not a few there are lot of issues. Everything from turning off to not being able to display the proper resolution. You should be looking for at least hdmi 2.0 for what youre doing. I found it by accident when ordering a longer one for mine. It would be nice if it was that easy for you.

So I'm racing the Audi TT in R3E, and I'm getting blown away on the straights, which I couldn't understand, because the gearing in that car is locked and there's no aero setting. I checked my pedals and found that my throttle wasn't registering 100%. I had to set the upper deadzone at 95% to get full throttle. Strange, that R3E is the only game where it comes up short.

Good thing is... All the times I've set have been with a short throttle. Gonna have to give those tracks another go soon. :)

Yeah, it's in the settings, Primary Controls I think. The scales are at the top of the page. Don't know why R3E is different. The PC driver control panel shows them registering 100%. Not a big deal since they have an Upper Deadzone setting.

That's the thing tough. The display port has better everything at this point. I never realized it when I set it up that way but there a lot more to it then just the picture. Like data transfer rate. Display port is a lot higher then hdmi at this point until hdmi 2.1 gets released this year.(maybe out already but I think you need cables rated for it)) Then it will be closer when comparing data transfer rate which will allow hdmi to be able to have higher hz(above 60 and 120 depending on the resolution) along with higher high definition. I had no idea the hdmi cables themselves could be your limiting factor until I read up on the difference between the display port and hdmi. Sort of interesting but you have to find articles that are recent so the information is relevant. I get you on the adapters I try to avoid them too if I can.

I think its because of the loadcells. For some reason it looks like r3e sees it like they are set where most games just use your max travel for the endpoint.(you may have extra travel left) My brake was like that with the t3pa pros I had to use the upper deadzone but with the heusinveld and diview its set before the game so I don't need to use it anymore.

I just took out the Dead Zones, Calibrated My pedals and all works well...Every time i go to the page i get 100% on all pedals.... I think its 0 and 100% or Vice versa.... But they all give Full Travel range input.

I guess I don't understand your connection. The Oculus uses HDMI. I thought you meant you were using an HDMI/Display Port adapter to connect the Oculus' HDMI to a display port on your PC. In that case, you're still using HDMI, so I'm not really understanding how you avoid the HDMI limitations. It's like connecting your computer to a Gigabit network with standard Cat-5 cable. The network delivers 1 Gbps, but your computer won't get that speed, limited by the Cat-5 cable. If an HDMI is in your connection string, then your connection is HDMI.

That's probably it. I have my cylinder and damper set to the hardest settings, so there's probably a bit less arm travel. I don't really care. Not a big deal, but I am a bit excited to give the leaderboards another shot. It all makes sense now. I thought the AI had just adapted and stepped up its game. But it was because I was only using 95% throttle. :) As soon as I fixed that, it was a totally different race. :) Looking forward to trying the WTCC class again. My pace is probably much better than I thought.

I was Board yesterday so i swapped Bases and put the V2 back on.... i will say there is a Notable difference in Feel between the v2 and v2.5!!! it showed with Pcars but shows even more with R3E!!! the Drag Free wheel Center is a Huge Step up in FFB Subtle feel and performance.

a explained on the R3E FFB settings page... i decided to tweek for the 0% Clipping....I set Steering force to 65 and on wheel FFB to 60% and Very Nice!!! suprisingly i got even more FFB feel!!! Tested Gt3 Ruf and DTM 2016 Merc... Very Nice FFB Feel and could clearly feel the Diff in wheel response because of Car Class...DTM had More but not just a wheel weight feeling... The Diff was that the DTM felt more planted Grip wise... It was bed time so i just left it at that.... today i will try SF 50% and on wheel 100%

The only time the FFB graph goes above the red line is if i fly off track way into the Dirt at a High speed but i guess thats to be expected or acceptable because the wheel goes Crazy!!!!

Still getting FFB Dialed in but its coming along Really Nice.

How is FFB AMS vs R3E

Now the FFB is Better i can get the Gt3 Ruf to 1:24.xxx No Problem abd maintain a Low 1:25.3xx race Pace.

IMO, you should try to get the clipping so that it does cross the red line for impact forces like a curb hits will cornering, and such. Reason... you lose grip on impacts like that anyway, a split second of clipping on impact doesn't matter. But the increased gain gives you more dynamic range the rest of the time. If you set the gain to avoid clipping all together, even on quick impact forces, then that means you're standard/primary dynamic range is lower than it could be, just to make room for impact spiking where you're losing grip anyway. Why leave headroom for impact spikes, when the tires are breaking complete traction anyway?

I set Steering Force 1st to feel Good with minimum Clipping first then i will adjust per car as Needed if needed.... the in car gains from what i feel dont seem to add a Huge amount of FFB Power to the FFB but it does add More saturation to All FFB Effects of the particular car.

Gt3 Ruf in car SG 1500
DTM in Car SG 2500
Both Drive and Feel Very Good without FFB line Going into the Red using Default in car SG and Global SF 65.... They both only go into the Red when off road in Grass at high Speed...Seems R3E -->SF acts very Much Like Pcars---> RAC.... Set it and forget it and tweek SG per car as Needed if Needed Very Much like Pcars in car Masters.... Its just alot easier to do because you can tweek FFB on the Fly witbout exiting the track... Only Need to exit track to set in car SG but thats a 1 to 3 time test thing to find FFB saturation sweet spot and your Done.

I find that on both R3E & Pcars when FFB settings are Too High that i get Strong FFB Hang ups---> Meaning that it seems to take a long time for Stronger FFB forces to let Go making Combo turns where weight transfer feel is strong Difficult to Navigate without throwing the car into a Spin out.

Edit: Even at SG 65 and on wheel FFB 60 or 65 FFB is very Strong and Detailed.... I dunno which i like better yet 60 or 65.... Maybe 60 because Less sems to be more in regards to Subtle FFB Feel with less fight Too Strong tries to rip wheel outta my hands.

I have @wheel set to 75, and the global gains in R3E set to 100. From there, I just adjust in-car masters as needed. It takes about 2-3 laps/tries to get the in-car masters dialed in, no fussing, fiddling, or voodoo arts needed. It's super easy to dial in, and the FFB feels great.

I had it for a while, but then started using my tablet screens less and less as Crew Chief started evolving. Now, with VR, I don't use any tablets or HUD overlays. I just all my information from the car's motec or by asking Crew Chief. I just like the realistic immersion. I don't even use the look buttons anymore, only whatever mirrors are available. If I'm racing online, I'll turn the map overlay on, just so I don't wreck someone coming out of the pits or merging back on track, but that's really it.

It's funny, because VR has really changed the way I think about my rig, in terms of needs, because I can't see it anymore while driving. :)

Glad your enjoying VR Life:)... I had been Saying since November how much of a Game changer it is....Since Big Dad Convinced us all to Go PC VR has been My end Goal... Tripples take up too Much Space with Less immersion... But Dont Give up your TV just yet.... you will find that after a Few months of using VR that Racing on the TV becomes enjoyable again for less intense Racing sessions.... I find My self Racing on TV quite a bit Now Maybe 60% VR 40% TV....Now that the warm weather and sun is back out i find myself Not wanting to be isolated in the VR Matrix all the time.

I told my son I got a vr headset and he sort of looked at me weird. lol He came over for easter and tried it for the first time and couldn't believe how good it was. He was looking all over which is funny to watch when you aren't the one wearing it. His only comment was you suck because hes getting married next year so its out of the question for right now. I don't know about playing on the screen again. I haven't touched one non vr game since I got it and don't really have any idea why I would want to. Its kind of like pulling the ps4 back out.

Same here I'm down to usually just the tire hud and maybe the ffb hud but that's about it. Less is more at this point. I haven't even had the maps up in some time. Sometimes that bites me if I don't know the track well but I think you pick them up faster without it.

That's how I did it. I get I'm still using hdmi because that's what the oculus has. Honestly if its any better I don't know I'm no expert but the articles I found those that know way more then I do still seemed to think it was a better option. Like I said I'm sure its like some of the ffb theories and will be debated forever or at least until someone decides on one plug or the other and sticks with it.lol

I'm going to get a decent PC monitor to mount to the rig when I move, but I seriously doubt I'll race outside VR, unless it's when friends are over. I tried it a few days ago and don't really like the 2D of it. In VR, I just have a much better sense of speed and rotation. Like Morpwr said, it feels like a couple steps backward.

I definitely learn the track faster when I'm not using the map. Haven't used the map for learning tracks in a very long time. I only use the map, so I can see the position of other cars when I'm exiting the pits or returning to track. It only takes a glance to make sure I'm clear.

IDK... I always thought the signal/bandwidth is only as strong/wide as the weakest connection in the chain. Regardless, though, the next gen Rifts need to have display ports. Not quite sure why they don't have that option now. I'm sure it was an accessibility decision, but display ports would have been better.

I agree the bandwidth is only going to do what the cable can carry but it had something to do with the colors and the way the display port works over the hdmi. Wether or not we can notice it in sims I don't know but the guys that found it on one of the oculus game discussions had others try it and all got the same results the picture was better. Then the discussion got really technical.lol Well if the new hdmi comes out this year or next year it will be pretty even as far as specs go. The display port can still carry more though like if you wanted to daisy chain monitors or really high resolutions.. I'm not sure if its because all the early gpus didn't have display ports yet or if it just came down to money. Display port is newer then the hdmi by 3 or 4 years even though its a lot better already. I think getting rid of the hdmi altogether would be tough because of the money involved by the companies that started it but I think the big thing was accessibility.

Hmmm... IDK.. I might give it a shot when I reassemble things.

I don't think they'll dump HDMI, or even that they should. I just think they need to add the option to run the Oculus via display port.

That would be nice especially if you could get better performance. Yeah I don't remember what game it was but it had a scene at the beginning that with the hdmi you couldn't see some of the images and with the display port it was obvious there was more on the screen then what could be seen before. Most of the guys cried bs in the beginning until they tried it and then said youre right and the in depth discussion started.

Anybody noticed the more you play other sims and understand how ai works makes the races better in all the sims. Getting the level set right is critical to a good experience along with understanding how they react in each one. I only got 2 races in tonight on pcars but they were both really clean and fun. Although I did blow the last race on the last lap and finished 2nd. Just pushed to hard coming off a corner and couldn't save it.:o Ive been using the McLaren gt3 car a lot in all of them its just a good balanced car that's fun to drive.

Yeah it had to do with contrast. The scene they were talking about had a lot of light and dark areas(space scene with a moon). From what I got the display port still does a better job even though you are somewhat limited by the hdmi cable connection. Something with the differences in how the two connections are setup to use the color range.

The thing is, and I'm not totally sure, I think the increased contrast also makes the screen door effect a little more noticeable. Again, I'm not sure, and would need to go back and forth to really see. But it would make sense, better contrast would make the that standout more. And I feel like I'm seeing it more in things that are in the distance, where as before it was usually most recognizable on things that were closer in the view.

Well i thought i had a win with vr today i forgot i had a Microsoft account so i turned off that DVR thing and share play then went into AC and it work straight away no stuttering like there was before but after about 10 min it started stuttering again. I noticed that my gpu was only going up to about 30% 50% at max and my CPU was going up to almost 100%. when it's not it vr the gpu is around 90% and CPU is around 70 to 80%. In vr the max gpu temp is 60 and when not in vr it gets about 83. Not sure if my gpu is working properly in vr mode. I'll have to try more tomorrow and see what everything is doing when it's not stuttering

Something isn't right there. You shouldn't be seeing numbers that high especially with the pc you have. Do you have extra antivirus or something using up more then it should and not leaving enough for the game? Open task manager and see if something has a really high usage it should tell you what is using the most. If I remember right it highlights it yellow. My guess is you have a program using up all your resources.

Definitely something odd, and since the CPU is taking a big hit, it might not be graphics related. Check to see if Chrome is running in the background. There are issues with Chrome and Windows 10 with some PCs. But next time you're running the game, check task manager to see which apps are consuming the most CPU power. That might point you in the right direction.

Yeah that's why I'm thinking he has a program using it all up before he runs a game. Chrome or ie definitely are resource hogs and I know the 10bit sort of free software is too. 10 bit will use like 30-40percent of the cpu before you do anything.

Id turn that off and see what happens. Some of the antivirus programs use a ton of resources. Id still open task manager and check though. Even without a game running you should be able to check and see if something is using a lot. Usage should be really low normally. If you see something using 20percent or more that probably is the issue.

There will be a lot of things running that's normal but you want to look for the ones with high usage. At the top what does the cpu usage say? Should be low like 10 percent or less with nothing open. If its telling you those are problems close the gigabite app and then check it again to see what your using. If that was the problem just don't use it.

There are a lot things running in the background, so don't worry. Just go to the Processes tab and sort the list by CPU usage and look for the biggest hog. If it's and irrelevant program then kill the process and wait a few seconds to make sure it doesn't restart. You'll most likely be able to tell what program the process belongs to from the name and/ or description. You'll need to either disable, uninstall, or remove the program from your startup folder to ensure it doesn't start again on reboot.

You should also sort the list by RAM usage. That could also cause problem. If something is consuming too much RAM and ties it up, then your PC will send the overflow caching to the HD, which is slower than RAM, and the increased read/write time could result in stuttering.

I guess my gpu control panel is the nvidia control panel? When I go into the nvidia control panel and into adjust image settings with preview there's 3 options 1.let the 3D application decide 2.Use the advanced 3D image settings 3.Use my preference emphasizing and that has quality highlighted next to it.
Mine is set to the first option let the 3D application decide.
If i choose use my preference emphasizing i can move a slider with 3 options 1. Performance 2. Balanced 3. Quality.
So you mean i should choose use my performance emphasizing and choose balanced?
Then in the configure surround, physX page it says set the following: surround configuration with a box saying span display with surround that is unchecked then in another box it says physX setting processor with a drop down box with auto select (recommended) that's what mine is set on or gtx 1080ti or CPU. You have to check it when the problem starts. That's when you're likely to see the high usage and spot the process that's causing it. If you check the manager before the computer starts stuttering, you'll just see it operating normally.

Got to about lap 3 and was waiting for it to stuttering but it didn't i checked the task manager and CPU was at about 55% and ram was 17% but gpu was only about 35% and I was getting almost constant 90 fps lowest i seen it go was about 80 fps around corners. Got to lap 15 and still all good done a few more laps thinks the problem was fixed and was just about to stop playing and thought I'd do a few more laps just to make sure and then about lap 18 it started stuttering again. I checked task manager and everything looked the same as on lap 3 when I checked it. Then i noticed my fps was dropping into the 30,s mostly only around corners but task manager still looked the same nothing high but gpu still at about 35%. I ran out of time but befor i shut it off I checked gpu control panel and i forgot to put the 3D setting on balanced I'll have to try that next but it seams like I'm getting somewhere as i couldn't even get ac to play at the start of the week and the stuttering was no were near as bad as befor.

Those numbers look pretty normal but with the fps dropping that low that will cause issues. Ill see 45 once in a while but normally its in the 80-90 range.

If these issues persist your CPU/GPU may be thermo throttling for some reason??? Defective????
Its Normal to have High CPU use in some Games while other Games GPU use is Higher... It all depends on the Game.

Even with a High powered GPU you can be limited performance wise and Need turn some settings down from Ultra...also How many cars do you have on ttack??? More Cars can be Very CPU demanding because it has to Drive and keep track of all Car positions at all times Even if you cant see them<---Waste of CPU power if you cant see the cars!!! I run 16 car Grid because you only find yourself racing with maybe 5 cars at a time.

Sorry I thought you had a aorus gpu too. I was on the aorus forum but it looks like those two companies are somehow connected because the poster said he had a post on the gigabite forum too and was waiting for a reply. Maybe like asus and rog they are made by asus but with different features. But might be worth a read anyways.

These tests have been in practice so it's just me on track. The strange thing is when it happened last time after 40 min I went and lowered settings to try and keep the fps up but lower settings somehow made it stutter more it didn't make sense to me. When I get home soon I'm gunna try putting the 3D setting on balanced and try higher settings and see what happens

Honestly, it's starting to sound more and more like you might have a defective device--GPU or Rift--and heat is the trigger.

Isnt there a program to test the different components? I thought I saw that somewhere. Something that can stress test them and tell you if its good or bad without having to guess and swap parts? Obviously it wont work with the rift but the gpu should.

If it's heat it must be the rift i guess because when playing on the tv things get hotter and i don't get the stuttering even with things maxed out. But if the rift was getting hot i would of thought that when i close the game and go straight to the oculus lounge room or the dreamdeak demo it would still happen but it doesn't which is strange.
And at the start of the week befor i turned off the DVR and share play settings as some as I would try and play ac it stuttered straight away then after i turned those 2 settings off the game lasted about 10 min then played up then when i reset the gpu control panel settings to default the game lasted about 40 min befor playing up.
I dunno if it's not working right by the end of the weekend I'll have to take it back to the guy who built it and get him to go through everything thing. When he built it he said he put it through benchtests and that and everything was fine

Can you try something? Go into the fan for the gpu and turn it up some. 85 is the throttling point for that card. Only takes a minute to change it and see what happens.

But that's the strange thing. It gets up to throttle zone when he's playing on the TV, yet it doesn't stutter. In VR, where the stuttering occurs, he's nowhere near the throttle limit.

Whichever one you use for your fans. I don't have msi afterburner so I don't know how that works. On mine I can just go right into the gpu and turn it up. Don't you have something to change the gpu settings? You should be able to change the fan curve in that.

I'm even more lost after tonight I didn't change anything from the last time i played. When i started playing i checked task managers usage and then checked gpu and cpu temps and fps to see what everything was doing when it wasn't stuttering then after only about 10min this time it played up where as last time it lasted over half an hour so i checked everything again and everything looked the same only difference was fps going all over the place down into the 20's. But same as befor i can go back into the oculus lounge and look around as quick as i could and no stuttering. its like it only does it in games because i can play the game it plays up, go back into oculus lounge and it's fine, go back into game and it plays up back into oculus lounge and it's fine. Very strange and annoying i just wish i knew what part is causing the problem

Edit: after it played up i did try those others settings in the nvidia control panel but it didn't make it any better and same with the game graphics settings high or low didn't change anything except everything looked better on high

The max temp was 58 on the gpu. Could there be something else getting hot in my pc that i might not be checkin? Or is it manly only gpu and cpu that get hot?

Next time you get the stuttering, press [CTRL+0]. I think (and I stress think) that's the command to disable the Steam ATW/ASW tech that throttle frame rate. Again, I think that's the button command, but you might want to Google it to be sure.

Congrats on the anniversary. I did check that for him. That's why I told him to turn the fan gpu up some and try it. For some reason the throttle temp is 85 and that's about where they run it looks like from the guys that have them in stock form and he was hitting 84. Easy enough to check and make sure by turning up the fan. I read something about the bios for that card not showing higher then 85 degrees too because it wont allow it. Not sure how true that is but interesting if that's the case.

Ive been waiting for that. It looks like they did a really nice job with it so far. I tried the steam beta last night and it works great! R3e looked the best it ever has! But I'm using oculus and steam beta so your results might be different. Everything pretty much maxed except mirrors and shadows with 26 cars and no problems. If rf2 looks as good as ac,r3e and pcars I'm going to have a hard time deciding what to play. Its a hard life.:)

Have you watched any of the ac videos on driving? Some good tips in there or just a slap to wake you up.lol It made me realize I'm leaving some on the table not using the whole track. Ive just always tried to keep the car actually on the track. Some of the corner cutting or using ALL the track to me is just cheating. But until they make a rule it will be abused if it equals faster times. It made me realize there is no avoiding it if I want to get faster. So ive really been trying to clean up my corners and use more of the track this week.

I don't understand how you can get 90fps with everything maxed out (and increased pixel density). I'm assuming you're letting the ATW/ASW tech run it at 45 fps. I don't know anyone running VR at maxed settings and still getting 90 fps. You'd honestly be the only one. :)

I watched one of the videos. Will probably check it more once the move is done. Using all of the track definitely makes a huge difference. I'm not really into corner cutting, but I will try to swing as wide as I can before turn-in. That often means nipping a little curb when it's doable. As for the curb cutting at the apex, I just observe the at least two tires on the track rule. :)

Edit: The thing about dude's videos, though (assuming we're talking about the same ones) is they're too long. He should do shorter clips, like Driver61. I ran through that whole University in like a couple days.

Honestly I don't worry about the fps anymore. Ive checked it in ac same there high settings on most I'm still around 80-90 with the ocassional drop to 45 but mostly in the 80-90 range. As long as I'm not getting stuttering or noticeable issues ill stick with the better visuals. I know many in the r3e forums went the same route with lesser hardware. So Im not the only one. Better visuals and don't worry about it. I'm starting to think everyone is making a bigger deal about fps then it really is. Obviously in a perfect world we would have steady 90 plus fps and great graphics but we aren't quite there yet. Probably next gen headsets and gpus.

That's what I try to stick to. Two tires on the track. Problem is a lot of the fastest times really abuse the using the whole track rule. Even in real life the fastest times mean going off track and using what should be a run off zone or completely chopping a corner.

We don't have to play in a private server, but we can create one. I play AC online all the time. There's usually a couple GT3 servers running well-known iconics like Spa, Imola, or Monza. I still haven't tried R3E online yet. But we should all meet up somewhere.

Yeah... I've thought the same about the 45 fps with ATW/ASW vs. a clean 90 fps. I can't seem to tell the difference. When I first started with VR, I didn't even know the ATW was kicking in, until actually ran a counter. Right now, I'm sticking to the 90 fps, because I don't know if the 45 fps affects my times. When I rebuild the rig next week, I'll compare times with the two. If they're the same, then I'll prioritize graphics over frame rate. I just don't know about 45 fps for racing when 60 fps has been the low standard for quite some time. 45 isn't horrible, by any means, but there's a big difference between 45 fps and 60 fps. You can see it in PCars when the fps drops in storm conditions.

Edit: Oh, I'll use runoff zones in a heartbeat, if there's no penalty and they help straighten out a turn. :)

That's because there's nothing really left to discuss regarding FFB. It's all been studied to death, and PCars2 is just around the corner, so it's pretty much moot. If you (or anyone) has a specific question or issue, you can post it, and someone will help. But in absence of an FFB related problem, of course the conversation will drift. :)

To be honest, I haven't gone back and forth with it to compare, like that. When I first started, I didn't realize the ATW was kicking in. But I was also new to VR, so I didn't have a comparison. But after I found out about the ATW, I just scaled back a bit on the settings and density until I was able to get 90 fps. I guess it would be more accurate to say that I didn't notice the ATW was on. I never really went back and forth to check the differences between 45 and 90, because I just assumed the 45 fps with ATW was a VR crutch for lower end machines that couldn't get 90 fps even with lower settings. The thing is, with 45 fps in normal 2D, there's a noticeable difference between 45 and 90 fps. The only reason it's hard to detect in VR is because of the ATW/ASW technology. But, at it's core, it's still 45 fps.

I guess I've have to do a real comparison soon.

If it does effect it its probably one of those things in a day or two youd adjust to. R3e and ac look really good turned up. R3e especially. You can read the dash just like youre driving a real car. I think pcars might show up more because it drops so much and then jumps up. It looks to me like as long as its not jumping all over the place and relatively stable even at lower fps it works ok.

Yeah ive been trying to force myself to do it. It just one of those things that annoys me even in real racing. Its supposed to be a safety zone not part of the track.LOL I guess its just one of those things that's too hard to police so it gets done. But there is a lot of time I'm leaving on the table not doing it too.

Well it distorts the graphics like crazy there is all sorts of crazy warping shit going on in ATW, i can't stand it.

Ive seen anything like that in any of the games. Id take the fps hit if it means a much clearer view.

I also think the runoff are there to make a little room for overtaking, so you don't get squeezed out onto rough terrain. There's definitely a way to abuse the track leniency, but I think snag a bit here and there is totally fine. Professionals do it to while racing, so it's not like it's unrealistic. :)

Yeah... I definitely never saw anything like that. I was referring to there being a slight difference in flow related to frame rate. I never saw any warping or distortion. Sounds like something other than ATW was going on there.

I personally don't think you should be running settings hitting ASW often, its there as a safety net for the odd dip below. Whats the point of upping the visual quality to only lose it through the artefacts. 90% of the time it should be running 90fps. In ac i run 3 graphics profiles dependant of the amount of cars all dialed in for 90fps but they sometimes drop below. .

I have...LOL. That's actually what brought me back to PCars. Career mode in VR is great. And twilight races down the coastlines and Bannochabrae are great.

I'll try it again, but I never saw anything like that. If I had, I would have been trying to get rid of it. Instead, I played for almost a week, assuming I was getting 90 fps because it seemed fine.

Yeah... even though I didn't notice the difference at the time, that's one of the reasons I adjusted the settings to get the 90 fps, because, from what I read at the time, ASW/ATW were meant to help slower machines that can't get 90 fps at low to medium settings.

I don't know I don't have any problems running at least 20 cars with the settings I'm using and generally never run less then that. I ran 3 races last night in r3e with 26cars set at 2.2 for pixels. Doesn't seem to make a huge difference above that to me. The only thing that really bothers is the shimmering on the fences in pcars. But even running 20 cars in a thunderstorm on spa only occasionally in a corner do I get a noticeable drop in fps where it visibly skips. If I was going to run in that all the time id have to change something. Even ac 20 plus cars I'm usually 80 plus fps sure occasionally it will hit 45 but that's usually at the start of the race before you get split up. I don't know maybe I'm just blind and don't notice it but they all look good.

Raceroom I do have on high settings, but graphically it's not that demanding, so that's no surprise. But 90 fps in PCars with high/ultra settings? I don't know. I'm not seeing that kind of frame rate with high/ultra, especially not in storm conditions. The ATW kicks in when I do that and it's 45 fps. You mind posting your graphic settings from PCars? I'd like to try them out.

Another thing I thought about last night was that fps fluctuations might affect your sense of speed. When it's constant--whether it be 45, 60, 90, or 120 fps--it's basically transparent, a non-issue. But the more it fluctuates during driving the more of a problem I think it could be, especially if it happens near braking zones or in corners.

I do agree with grimey ultra settings in vr didn't seem to do much if anything. So my settings are nothing special in pcars. Just have most stuff set on high. Like you mentioned in your other post I think as long as the fps are relatively steady your fine. At this point id rather have them look good as long as it doesn't cause me problems which it doesn't seem to.

I tried the FR3 again at Silverstone. It took me like 10 laps to even get within .500 of my own leaderboard time...LOL. The car is a little hard to handle. I remember it now. I think last time, I stopped there on the leaderboard, because it was starting to feel like I wouldn't get anymore out of it without a little tuning. The AR bars could use a click on the softer side--the back maybe even two clicks. It'd probably benefit from a little increase in the Rear Diff, too.

The biggest problem, though was the steering (like most cars in RE3). You definitely want to match your wheel's DOR to get a 1:1 with the screen and RL wheel. And then raise the steering lock to tighten/quicken the turning ratio. Not sure why R3E has the DOR varying from car to car like that, instead of using a global setting or just matching the wheel's rotation. My wheel is set to 900, so I set all the R3E cars the same, and then use Steering Lock to tighten the ratio, if needed. Some cars feels fine with the defaults, but the FR3 seems a little too twitchy without the adjustment.

Theres a setting you have to turn on in r3e to match the screen to your wheel. I forget where I found it but its near the top of the page if I remember right. Then it just matches it when turned on and no need to change anything. I think it says custom wheel something.lol

That only affects the animation. I have that set, and the wheel DOR set to 900 in the global settings. But the in-car DOR still varies, most set to 540. If you want the car's DOR to match your wheel, you need to change the in-car Steering Settings, and then use the Steering Lock setting to adjust the steering ratio.

I don't use the wheel or arms as I find it distracting when I already have a wheel in front of me (I sit very close to the screen)
It's a shame in some ways though as some of the wheels are modeled really well.

I was the same before VR. But in VR, the wheel and hands are kind of...essential. :)

With VR, I love having the car's actual dash and/or motec available and in full view. It's much easier for me to check dials and info at a glance than it was before.

Definitely agree with that. Even when some of the dashes aren't the easiest to see because the wheel is in the way. I think that adds to the immersion. Have you caught yourself thinking the wheel on the screen was yours and tried to push a button that wasn't there?

Kind of, but the FOV is sometimes different, depending on your screen size and position. But the big difference is, I don't have to turn my head to see the dash or motec. I can just shift my eyes. That's why it's so much easier to do and less disruptive. The view isn't shifting, nor is my head moving. I simply look down with my eyes, like I would in RL. :)

I haven't done that. But I know exactly what you mean, because I have caught myself (many times), taking my hand of the RL wheel and being a bit startled for a fraction of a second, because my VR hand was still on the wheel...LOL. There's that brief moment, where something in side of my is like, "WTF?"

But I'm trying a TF 100 I'm using a cateram rs500 at oulten park. Master is 60. Fx 10 fy 30 fz 20 mz 40. It really don't feel bad so far I'm trying too get the loss of grip when pushing too hard in the corners and brake lock up.

But I did get a nice feel when I hit the marbles last night I think I will have too run a race too see how it feels in a race stint. I'm trying to get the feel in AC when you lose grip the vibrations etc. That's what I felt when I hit the marbles.

At this point I'm not changing anything. It really shouldn't feel much different your just moving numbers around. Low in car setting with higher master should feel the same as the other way around just a different way of doing it. But your never going to get that same feel as ac because of the way pcars works now. Not saying pcars is wrong just different at this point.

TF/RAC 75 Thats been My formula for a bit using High Masters and Low in car settings... I use Fx 10, Fy 30, Fz 60, Mz 30 .... SOP Lat 10, SOP vert 60 <--- Feels Good with No SOP also.

I use 100 Masters (CSW v2/ v2.5) but Masters Can Be Set according to the FFB strength that feels best for you.

The Real Magic is in the Global settings TF 75, RAG 1.00, RAC 75-->85 , RAB must be set to taste/ Wheel used--> v2/v2.5 i use 0.08.... Scoops 68/24 depending on wheel v2 i use 0/0 pretty much same feel as 68/24 but more powerful.

I tried the TF 100 thing for a while but it just makes wheel too heavy.

Did you see your sli setup might be of use soon.:D Nvidia has the software to use dual gpus for vr. One for each eye which basically puts you above 90fps at max settings easily. Hopefully more companies start using it and there are a few already. From what I read its basically a few extra lines of code to use it. Sms are you listening? Hopefully they are with the way they like to innovate and push boundries I would expect that to be pretty high up on the vr list. Dual gpus with max settings and high fps in vr.:D

Move's done. Going to start setting up the rig today. My GF's been surprised by how quickly I've been getting the place setup--hanging curtains and pictures, unpacking and getting rooms situated. She thinks it's because I'm heading out of town next Friday for a work conference, and we leave for vacation a week later. That might be part of it, but the real motivation is that I knew I couldn't start working on the rig before the "home" needs were met...LOL

I also learned for sure that racing is now my main way to unwind. Because after the move and the day's chaos, I was heading back home that evening and started feeling good, a little excited, like I was looking forward to something. I thought it was just because everything was finally done, and I was about to get a shower, dinner, and chance to sit my arse down. Then suddenly, while sitting at a stop light, I realized what I was looking forward to and my shoulder slumped in disappointment. The excitement was a bit Pavlovian. I was looking forward to turning a few laps. As soon as I remembered by rig was in a box, dinner and shower weren't enough, and the excitement was gone. :(

But at least for me when I'm doing it you aren't thinking about anything else other than what youre doing at that immediate moment. So for me its totally relaxing. Haiden have you seen that NVidia has support for dual gpus with vr? All we need is game makers to start using it. There are 2 ways of using it with one being basically 4 extra lines of code the other being more complex but better for the cpu. Easy 90 plus fps with vr using it. It only is supported with dx11 and 12 but most games are using that or will be soon. I don't know about you but id buy another 1080 if it starts getting used. That would quickly make vr a lot better not that I think its bad now.

I can't wait for tomorrow's update. I don't know what happened, but my FFB feel amazing now. At first, I thouht it was just because I hadn't played AC in a while (that's the first sim I tried), but I'm pretty sure it's not a placebo, because every sim feels different now. My guess is it has something to do with the seating position. I never reset anything when I switched to VR, so the seat and pedals were positioned for how I was sitting with the mounted screen. The FFB just feels so much more intense and visceral. In AC, the gain for the Porsche 911 is set to 75, even though the FFB tool recommends 89. But the master gain at 75 is more than enough force, very strong. And I've got Fanatec @wheel gain set to 75, too. IDK... Only got to play for an hour or so last night. Looking forward to more play today. Everything felt good before, but now it feels absolutely amazing. And I love the new seat and pedal position. Everything is exactly inline with the VR view.

Edit: Have you seen the new screenshots? This is looking nice. Much improved. Coupled with that butter-like FFB and time and weather transitions...I'm gonna be busy next week. :)

hopefully the price will drop in a few months!!! 1080ti $780.00 per card!!!

Edit: also the new GPU driver 381.89 is Very Good!!!

Honestly, I wouldn't bother with the 1080ti right now. You 1070 SLI is probably just as good or better, because of the double up. I'll probably get another 1080 when the titles actually start supporting SLI in VR. But why spends $800 when $300-$400 will get you the same result or better? :)

I finally updated my GPU driver last night. I skipped the last update and was still running 378.92 from March. When rebuilt everything, there was a Windows, Oculus, and Nvidia update waiting. I installed all of them, so I'm not sure which had the most effect, but the graphics in VR seemed noticeably better. Or maybe five days away is playing tricks on my eyes/mind. :)

Yeah I'm in the same boat. I was looking at a ti but with NVidia using sli for vr I'm going to wait and see what happens. Like you said even 2 1070s would probably be overkill. My guess is using sli you could probably raise the pixels more and have a really nice picture.

No I think youre right. I found the same thing after some of the last updates. I had the same thing though they all came about the same time so I didn't know which one helped. Didn't really care though.lol That was when I noticed it seemed everything was a lot clearer or more crisp looking.

Me too. Speaking of ac you should try some of the challenges. I did that last night just for something different to do. We all get stuck picking certain cars or styles so I just picked stuff and went with it. I didn't find anything I didn't like. I did run out of gas with half a lap left in the one race while leading. I was like NOOOOOoooooooo.lol

That's what I'm hoping. It should allow us to up the pixel density and run more AA. I can run AA in R3E now, because the graphics aren't that demanding. But trying to run AA in PCars and AC, you definitely take a performance hit. Both PCars and AC look better with AA, but PCars benefits from it the most, because it really needs it to fight that shimmer effect.

You are right!!! after the last oculus update the Graphics are Much Better!!! I was thinking the same thing your mind is not playing tricks on you.

Im Not going to bother with the 1080ti until My Next PC build...That will be when ever my Son decides to get off console...the SLI performance reviews of 1080ti are very Poor right Now!!! im sure or at least i hope they will get better with Time but right Now 1080ti SLI is Not worth it.

Edited: I meant to say 1080ti SLI performance Reviews are Not Good right now..

I don't think it's a normal update. They aren't pushing it to everyone, you have to opt into, kind of like the Steam Beta. They're calling it an Open Beta. The update roadmap, said you'd be able to switch to the Beta and then back to normal one with a single click. Still waiting to hear/see the option to install.

The video on their Facebook page looks awesome, though.

Edit: Found this in the Steam Forum. If that's true, then we just have to wait for it to become available.

right click rf2 select properties then go into betas the last beta was 1108 so anything greater than that will be it

You should read the Roadmap notes. They didn't release any new shaders and some content still needs to be updated. There are a lot more graphic updates coming.

I tried it out last night. Took a little time to get it working. It was crashing every session as soon as I clicked Drive from the pit box. Had to reinstall rF2 and delete all my old Workshop subscriptions to get it working. The graphics are improved, but like you, I wasn't all that impressed. The cars look a lot better, as does the background environment. But the track still has a bit of a dated look. I'm assuming that's related to the shaders and texture updates they held back. I still need to play with the graphics a little more, but I'm basically running it on Medium settings across the board, with a little bit of AA, so it should be close to the best it can get. The only thing I haven't found was how to increase the pixel density. If it's like most titles, the default is 1.5. Being able to increase that would really help.

Found this for rF2 graphic settings. Gonna give it a try later today. It also has instructions for setting pixel density. But it looks like the instructions make a global change to the Oculus settings, not just game-specific. Not sure it'll be a problem, though, since I'm using the same pixel density in AC, R3E, and I believe PCars.

Same here not impressed at this point. Yeah its a lot better then it was but the cars look horrible. The interior looks ok but the hoods look like well you know. Not like any of the other games where they look shiny and have reflections. If you go on the rf2 forum I think they told you how to change pixel density in the link for the update with vr. They said it was more important then anything else which I would believe. I really wish they would fix the horrible load times. Is there a way to adjust the ffb besides the in car gain? I didn't see anything unless I missed it.

Was the pixel setting you saw sim-specific, or was it an Oculus setting? I'd rather set per title, and not a global Oculus change.

I only tried the open wheels, couldn't see much of hoods, but they didn't look that bad to me. The interiors still don't match AC or PCars, but they are better.

The load times are only really long the first time it builds the shaders--after making a graphic settings change. After that, the sessions should load a lot faster. But that first load is way too long. And it doesn't help that your headset is dark while it's loading...LOL. I'll give it some more time soon. I'm out of town this weekend, so I'll probably just stick to AC and R3E until I get back. Otherwise, I won't get much playtime in before I leave. Don't want to spend the week fumbling with settings when I've got three other working titles. :)

Also, a lot of rF2 fans are reminding people that it's best to just get it running fairly well, and then enjoy it as-is, because this is just the initial release of the Open Beta, and isn't the end all be all. There will be a lot of major updates coming in the next few months, most of which will be improving and changing the graphics. So don't spend too much time tweaking it, because it will be in constant flux as they roll out more updates.

Edit: I read some more this morning. So it seems that they were really trying to make sure most of the old content ported over and still worked, but they only actually updated the graphics textures and shaders for 5 tracks and 5 cars. So that might be why it seems underwhelming. I think I was trying some tracks and cars that hadn't been updated. I also think I had the Post Processing turned off when I was playing in 2D, because I had set it up for VR. Doesn't change anything I said above, but I'm definitely going to try it again with the right car and track and PP effects turned on.

Content updates as part of this initial build:
The USF2000, Nissan GT500, Howston G4 and G6, Dallara DW12 and the Stock Cars have been updated with new shaders, better headlights and overall better textures.
Atlanta Motorsports Park, Silverstone, NOLA Motorsports Park, Mores and Indianapolis Motor Speedway have all gotten texture updates, and we painted the curbs at Silverstone in the current colors too!

I was playing on a PC monitor without VSync, and the frame rates were wandering between 95-120 fps. Visually, I didn't notice the fluctuation. Surprised you can't control Vsync with the GPU, though. I was wondering about the AA. I didn't think I was seeing much change from no AA to various levels of AA.

They didn't mean for it to be a release. It's an open Beta. They were upfront about that and said it would be updated and tweaked extensively over the next few months. They are planning to have the full release candidate ready for launch within a few months.

That being said, I know what you mean about the wow factor. I think the fact that May 1st was only the tip of the roll out was overshadowed by all the talk and screenshots. It definitely has potential, though. If they can get everything rolled out and stabilized in the next few months, that would be really nice.

I'm never going back to TV. I've tried, and it's just feels...lacking. I like the 3D perspective. The only time I play on screen is when friends come over, because I don't want them sweating in my Rift....LOL. But I always can't wait to get back to VR, because I'm much more precise in VR.

The FPS is just wacked out!!! Maybe on a monitor or in VR its Not Noticeable but on a TV its very Notable due to the lower refresh rate...only 60Hz:hopelessness:

all in all I guess it will get there... I agree I see the potential but the question is how much longer are they going to keep working on it before they decide it would be more profitable to make RF3???

I just came to rF2 when I switched to PC, but I don't think Studio 397 are the original developers. I think they took it over with the goal of modernizing it. So, for them, it might be more profitable to ride the update train for a while.

I have to agree with all the hype I expected more from the update. No the fps is screwed in vr too. Its the only game I notice it in so its got to be bad.lol I had to turn a lot of stuff down to get it playable but I don't think it was one of the tracks and cars they did yet so maybe that had something to do with it. I'm sure they'll have it all sorted out in a few months. By the end of the year, most of the serious modders will have probably caught up as well and updated their content.

Have you tried the McLaren 650 GT3 in AC? I like it even better than the R3E version. I can't stop driving that car in either game. It's a beast, stiff as hell and oversteer prone, but it's fun to drive and feels so rewarding when you're getting it right. After being away from AC for a while, I got say, I really missed that FFB. It feels like butter, intuitive, great dynamic range, and so strong. I've got the @wheel gain set to 75, global gain set to 100, and it's recommending in-car gains of 85-100, depending on the car. Like the McLaren 650, it recommends an in-car gain of 90, but 80 is more than enough force for me.

Oh yeah. Its up there on my favorites list.lol Same here if I'm running gt3 I'm using that car. Its really well balanced and easy to drive. Probably just suits me because I hate cars I have to wait for the front to set before they turn or brake really early so they will.

Mopwr How do you like the Mustangs the Gt3 and DTM i forget what year though in R3E... They are a Beast on the Straights and they even turn Good.

I went with a 0% FFB tweek... For Most Cars i get 0% Clipping and others i get a Tad Bit Mostly when i hit a High Curb... if im in the Dirt the FFB Goes Crazy its Really Strong... The FFB and all the Cars Drive Really Good!!! Even the Gt3 Mercedes has great feel and turns Good its a Beast!!!

The FFB is the same as Pcars... 1 Global FFB to rule them all and adjust each car as Needed with the Masters/In car FFB Gain.... I keep scratching My Head wondering How and why Pcars FFB became so Convoluted and Over Complicated:confused:

I haven't driven that one in a while but from what I remember it was pretty good. I really don't mind any of the gt3 cars they all drive good just different. I don't have any serious clipping just a little on curbs and maybe some high load corners with certain cars. The pc racer has enough feel on the bottom you don't need to turn the gain up to compensate.

There's a simple FFB meter. I don't know what the default key toggle is, but I currently have mine mapped to the "F" key. Not sure if that was the default, or if I changed it.

Pull up the FFB Graph Box... The Yellow line is your Constant /Minimum FFB, the Green Line is your active FFB and any time the Green Line Goes over the Red Line is Clipping.

I dont think Its Like Pcars Clipping though... i Never felt the Wheel go Flat with No FFB Feel.... Even before i had My Settings tweeked and FFB was way in the Red the wheel still had Feel when FFB spiked over the Red.

Edited---> Im Really wondering if when the Line Goes over the Red is that Really Clipping??? Reason is Because with reasonable settings the FFB Spike tips stay Sharp and the wheel FFB Feel Never Goes Dull---> Then I tested the Steering Force intensity setting at 200(Full up) and the FFB Graph Line Flat lined against the Top of the Graph Box<---This i know for sure is Clipping.

I think the way they have it set yes it is clipping but it still leaves some room for lower end consumer wheels. That's why I don't worry about a little clipping. Its not like pcars where if youre clipping you pretty much went too far.

Thats the Guide i followed when tweeking the settings... I tbink Mopwr is Right it maybe out dated.. im using steering force intensity 75 and it seems to work well with all cars.

IMO Steering force intensity works very Much like Pcars RAC-->it will add intensity to the overal FFB but when set too High it forces you to have to Reduce in car masters/in car FFB Gain(<--I forget what they call it in R3E) to avoid clipiing.

But all in all the FFB is Very Nice once you have things dialed in Right.

I went with the 0% clipping set up...It will go above the Red when im in the dirt but there is No Notable Loss of FFB Feel so there must be invisible head room above the Red Line.... I only Noticed a tad bit of FFB dulling when i set Steering force to 200 and tbe Graph flat lined on the top of the Graph box<---Tbis is what made Me wonder about where Clipping actaully Strats at???

That's about where I am with the settings. About the only thing different is understeer. I don't like it that high to me it feels like it comes in way to early. Probably just personal preference at that point.

Same. Can't remember what I have Understeer set at, but it's much lower than 100%. I don't need that to be too strong. I just need to feel enough of it to know it's happening. Too much and the wheel gets way too light when the tires scrub, and then I can't feel the grip. I also run Vertical Load a little lower, 45 I think. Too much of that, and it overpowers the spectrum.

I think this is where the v2.5 and v2 differ at --->with High understeer the FFB kicks in Much Harder with the v2 ---> v2.5 the FFB kicks in Much more Progressive with a Smoother feel so it doesn't Feel Harsh at all until your really under heavy weight transfer.

It took a bit to get used to the v2.5 Lighter/Drag free wheel center but i can See where it makes a Huge Difference in Feel and Settings used.

Harshness and/or spikes aren't the issue. Understeer makes the wheel lighter, not harder/harsher, on all hardware. Personally, I just need to know when Understeer is happening, and I don't need too much lightening of force to detect that. 100% is just too high for my tastes. I've never been a fan of high Understeer force, on any hardware, which is why I don't like the canned effect on AC. It's just too much. I like that R3E lets you dial it in to your liking.

If you haven't changed the setting, then it's running at VR resolution, 1920 x 1080. Most TVs are only limited to 60Hz when running at 4K resolution. At 1080p, a lot of TVs can run 120Hz.

I agree it's strange. Not really sure if this wheel is DD or not. The secrecy from TM, is a little suspicious. If it was DD, why would they be keeping it under wraps?

Regardless, I'm waiting for Fanatec's DD. I've already got four Fanatec rims, and see no reason to start over in a different ecosystem. I also don't really care for TM rims anyway.

I'm not getting excited at this point. I have a feeling its going to be nothing more then a rebadged ps4 version of the pcracer but I could be wrong. I think it might be possible to get in that price range though. Look at what the accuforce costs with a lot better quality. If you take away the 200 plus dollar steering wheel and paddle shifters its 1000 dollars. IDK... I think it'd still be a bad a choice of material, though. Plastic doesn't carry vibrations, as well. And higher-end plastics that can take the repeated, long term torque stress, without developing fractures over the long term, might actually be more expensive than metal. If I spent $800, I wouldn't want a wheel with a plastic shaft or collar.

I'm not excited either, but mainly because I'm not interested in it. :) I agree, though. TM will have to keep the price down. PC users will more than likely be the primary market. Not saying console players won't want one. But the majority of console players aren't going to splurge on an accessory that costs twice as much as the console. Many already balk at the price of a T300 or G29. TM has to know that the closer they get to $1000, the less sense it's going to make to many PC users, when they can get an Accuforce for a few hundred more. Of course, that said... As long as TM's DD base supports it's existing rim set, they would have a one up on Accuforce. More rim options at a cheaper price. :)

I agree id rather have metal but R/c cars have used plastics for years and its amazingly strong when you can take a 12-13lb truck at 40-50mph and hit something then drive away. Look at the things on real cars made from plastic that rarely break. Even the stuff from the 3d printers. I'm no plastics expert but I know plastics like delrin can be machined are really strong and not that expensive. So it may be more of a mindset thing with plastic kind of like us old guys have a problem with a 300hp 4cyl not being as cool as a 300hp 350 chevy that gets 8 mpg. But in the end 300hp is 300hp.lol And id rather have the fuel injected 300hp 4 cyl that gets 25mpg.lol Im sure if tm does make a dd wheel and use the same collar its probably a lot stronger then we think but we still don't know if it is a dd wheel or how strong it is. Obviously if its a dd but only say 8 nm it will still be better then previous wheels with better fidelity then the collar will probably be fine. Now if its above 10nm which I don't see happening in a consumer wheel maybe it will be an issue. But id be shocked if we ever see a consumer wheel above 10nm. I think the v2.5 and pcracer are just upgrades of what they had. Great upgrades and it sounds like by what you describe very similar. I don't think we need a major physics breakthrough thou. We need dd wheels. Going from the t300 to the pcracer made me realize our wheels are really the limiting factor not the game at this point. Just a subtle tweak to the t300 which is now the pcracer made a big difference in every game. So almost doubling our power with an even more drag free wheel would be a lot better with the sims we have now.

I Race 1/5th scale Gas Baja Buggies... It will Do 45mph Easy... the plastic parts Always Break!!! 7 outta 10 times i Run it a plastic part breaks... Esoecially when i Crash it:p LOL

1/5TH scale is a little different.lol I think that's where you cross the line because of the weight. I have a bunch on 1/10 and 1/8th scale stuff and it rarely breaks. Back when I raced offroad I jumped my savage close to 100ft and all of 15-20 feet in the air and drove away like it was nothing. Yes the ramp was huge and the guy that owned the track came up with it after a couple too many cocktails. It was the last race of the season and he decided to have a jump off to see who could go the farthest.lol Even the jumbo axial 1/8 scale buggy that is actually more like 1/6th scale doesn't break stuff normally and it will do around 60 easily. Yeah I put stupid power in it.lol You have to love the new batteries and brushless motors now. I do remember back when I raced to 1/10 scale touring cars with my son (probably 10 years now) the plastic wasn't any where near as good as it is now. Just touched a tire and it tore the whole knuckle off usually. Especially if you where running foam tires. Now the stuff rarely breaks.

I think the problem with using plastic is that the weak points will always be where it's secured to the rest of the base/motor. That's where plastic will meet metal and I just don't think those points would fare well under the constant torque stress. Why connect a plastic shaft to a metal motor and rim? Not saying it couldn't be done. I just think metal is a better option. And for the price people would be paying, they deserve more than plastic. I could be wrong, but I've never seen a plastic DD wheel. I think it would be a mistake for TM to try and make one. The number complaint about plastic sim hardware is that the more plastic the manufacturer uses, the more it feels like a toy and less like equipment.

I don't disagree with your points at all. Im not a fan of the quick release they use now because of the screw. Its not really quick release. But we are talking a consumer level somewhat affordable dd wheel if that's what it turns out to be.

True, but like any production process, there are three controls that have a dynamic relationship--price, quality, and time to produce. You can't change one without affecting the others. Affordability is subjective, and if you lower the price too far, quality will suffer. The real question for TM is: should they be bother playing in this space? IMO, there's a lot more to success in this area than just building a DD base at an affordable price point. At that price level, there are different expectations. I don't think there are enough budget-cusp buyers (buyers with limited funds that are willing to sacrifice a bit of quality just to get their hands on a higher-end wheel). TM can't succeed catering only to that crowd. And the other crowd won't pay that much for plastic. They want a product that feels substantial and we'll made.

Edit: I was always worried that the screw hole on the TX collar was going to eventually strip, because there are no metal threads. It's just threads through the plastic. That's not something you should even be thinking about after spending $800 on a base. :)

That's one of the reasons I don't change it often. Even if you do the start it backwards trick so drops into the same thread eventually it will wear out. Guess we will see soon what they have up their sleeve.

Funny, because that's one of the reasons I switched to Fanatec, because I change rims constantly. I like to drive the car with the closest matching rim style I have. TM rims took too long to swap out, always had to get up, get the screw driver, etc. And they also didn't have much variety. They have a few rims, but only two styles--GT or F1. With Fanatec, I can swap rims in seconds without leaving my rig. And I've got a Porsche rim for GT paddle shifting, F1 for modern open wheelers, and then a full GT rim and small oval/flat rim for the universal hub. I put the small paddles on the hub, so I can't really reach them easily when using the full size GT rim. That makes the rim perfect for sequential and H-shift cars, because the paddles aren't very accessible. But for classic open wheelers, I can slap on the smaller flat/oval rim, which works well with the small paddle shifters. I just can't get those options with TM, and if I go Accuforce, it would cost me a lot of money to replicate that variety. Unless Fanatec goes down the crapper, quality-wise. I'm going to be in that ecosystem for quite some time. :)

For you guys sticking with fanatec makes total sense if they come out with a good dd wheel. Granted their wheels arent cheap either but much less then the other formula wheels you where talking about. I'm not in a hurry at this point so maybe fanatec will be an option when the time comes. I'm kind of waiting to see what everyone does before I make a move.

I don't think it's just a "maybe" Fanatec will release a dd wheel. Thomas said this over on the Fanatec Blog..237684

There was also a post where he actually confirmed it. And IIRC, he also offered to send a beta DD to an upset customer that was having problems with his V2. But I think the guy ran his mouth too much and pissed Thomas off, so he pulled the offer. I really hope it comes out this year.
