Sorry if it has already been posted but...

What about DTM cars? What's the point of having one car and not even one more to compete? What about Audi TT/RS5, BMW etc?

Any plans of adding them in Pcars (1)?

The DTM license is exclusive to Sector 3 Studios who make DTM Experience. If there is the Audi or BMW in the game too it would be seen as a DTM race which would contravene the conditions of the current licence agreement.

Also, the DTM license is strict in that if a car is featured, like the Mercedes C-Coupe AMG DTM in PCars, it must not feature logos or too complicated a livery as it would look realistic and may be seen as official DTM content. This is why SMS cannot give a livery template for custom liveries.

One thing I don't understand however is how Forza 5 can feature the BMW M4 DTM and be allowed to have custom liveries. Perhaps an SMS employee can clarify the reasoning behind that situation.

Likely no. The DTM license is currently in another title.

Would be nice if the DTM licenses was like in the mid 2000's where Codemasters had the series in Pro Race driver, ToCA RD 2 and ToCA RD 3. Unfortunately, it is not like that today, so we are stuck with one car and no liveries......

IDK what happened to the fictional Asano though.......

It was not something Audi wanted in the title. Even though SMS didn't have to comply, they want to keep a nice relationship with the manufacturer to have more licensing opportunities in the future. Not complying would have definitely not allowed a good, trusting partnership going forward.

Excuse my ignorance here, but is there even a game you can go out and buy which includes the full DTM? Keep hearing that such and such has the rights to it, but is there actually such a game out there? It seems crazy to be so strict on the licence if there isn't even a DTM game you can buy.

Grid Autosport sort of got around it by licencing similar Audis and Mercedes but not DTM spec ones and making a fictional series that was a sort of close-ish approximation of it. Reckon that's as close as it gets.

Dtm experience by sector3 studios. It's part of race room racing experience.. Only for PC though, on consoles I don't think there's any option.

Race Room Racing Experience, aka R3E.

It also has the WTCC license which prevents SMS from including WTCC content in PCars.

That makes sense I guess. There are lots of Audis in the game and you want a good relationship to keep that coming.

The Mercedes seems slightly pointless by itself, though.

IMO, it's not. It's a fun car to drive and single make series provides some of the best and closest racing possible.

Not solely directed at you, but I'm not sure why so many people have issues with single make racing series. Most here likely having been sim racing for a long time or on the PC, but back when GTR and GTR2 were out, there was a professional racing league where all of the top sim racers raced. They all used the exact same car since it was the fastest. It wasn't designed to be a single make series, but it turned out to be and there was some of the best sim racing going on in that league.

For me, because I don't really play online and want stuff that more closely mirrors real-world series. Everyone's different, though. The DTM is definitely good fun to drive but I'd love it to have competition.

Never understood manufacturers and their licensing, if you charge a certain hefty fee for a game developer to include your cars in their game, and when there are so many game developers who all want that license why on earth would you deny that license and forefit all of the income that comes along with it, not to mention all the publicity.

Surely a game developer cannot demand exclusivity on a license and forbid any other game the right to that same content, i mean developers say please can we have a license, manufacturers say yes that will be £10,000 please, developer says thanks but you cant give anyone else a license.

Can someone explain for example if one game gets a WTCC license why nobody else can have the same choice, in lamens terms of course for easily confused folk.

What's the point of having one car and not even one more to compete?Point is to be able to have races with DTM level machinery. All of the cars share the same chassis and the engine regulations make the engines pretty dang close to identical anyway, really the only real difference between the cars is shape of the body (and even that is heavily scrutinized by DTM to make sure no one gets an advantage). SMS really did try their best to get more, even all of them, but it simply was not possible. Even getting the Merc is a miracle, and involved heavy limitations (which is why it doesn't have any racing liveries).

Overall, it's better to have one modern DTM car than not have any.

Can someone explain for example if one game gets a WTCC license why nobody else can have the same choice, in lamens terms of course for easily confused folk. That depends on whether the license deal includes it being exclusive. Most licenses aren't exclusive, like you can see many of the same cars in multiple games. But sometimes the license holder and the company licensing the product decide to make it exclusive. It could well be more expensive for the company licensing, but having exclusive content can be really enticing.

RE: Neil Bateman, I see it as a chain of three reasons which all kinda link into each other.

1) One games company might be willing to offer three times the amount of any other company, in exchange for an exclusive license. Exclusive licenses are generally a multi-year thing (like EA Sports & FIFA, and Codemasters & Formula 1), so it's guaranteed income and regular releases for at least a few years. If you're guaranteed the license exclusively for a few years, you can gradually develop and refine the game to make it better rather than having to gamble and make huge changes to keep up with competitors which risk ruining the game (Point 3).

2) Then there's demand to take into account. NASCAR is North America's most popular racing series, there's no exclusive license for the series (as far as I'm aware), yet only one company includes all the cars in their game (Eutecknyx I believe or something like that). GT6 has some cars in it but not all of them. Demand simply isn't there for a NASCAR game, and I expect the same would be true of WTCC. It would take one company offering big money to get a game released (Point 1).

3) Also, a video game of your company/sport is a representation of said company/sport, so you'd want it to be done properly. Using WTCC as an example, I expect EA Sports has enough spare change to buy into a joint license for that series, but the target market for a more niche form of motorsport like WTCC is likely to be sim racer orientated, a demographic that EA is not involved in. EA wouldn't profit from a game like this and WTCC wouldn't get the game they wanted (Point 2).

For what it's worth, that's my take on it. I'm no video game or licensing expert, that's just how I see it.

Well single car races it is then *sigh*. Too bad. Also too bad about not having any hopes for more WTCC in Project Cars.

I don't get why they couldn't make a "fake" dtm series...I mean, they have the caper stock car...why not make up a fake car brand to have a dtm series....The merc dtm cars suck with generic schemes and no sponsors. I understand the licensing issue.

The other manufacturers didn't give the licence for their DTM cars. Also the ITR is very strict regarding licencing.

They are putting in cars they have licenses for... They aren't necessarily picking one direction or another. The focus during development was on the race cars with street cars taking a back seat. I understand that that street cars aren't your thing, but there are plenty of people who do like them. It's "Project CARS" not "Project RACING". ;)

That said, is does stand for Community Assisted Racing Simulator (I believe - correct me if anyone knows better)... :P

The things you can do with a Focus RS, ot the Pagani Roadster are just crazy, they are such nice cars to drive.
