Hi guys,

Good news, the Xbox One patch has been approved. We're awaiting confirmation on when it will roll out, but in the meantime, here are the release notes.

Project CARS – Xbox One Patch 4.0 – Release Notes

New & Enhanced Feature Summary
* Online – added support for 'Force Default Setups' in Multiplayer restrictions screen.
* Online – players driving the wrong way will now have their collision disabled and their vehicles will display as ghost cars.
* Online – lobby search settings are now saved between sessions.
* Career – mandatory pitstop opening lap will now scale when the player scales the length of the race. For example, if the race was set to 5 laps, the pits would open for the mandatory stop on lap 2. If the player now scales the race length to 15 laps, the pits will open on lap 6 for the mandatory pitstop.
* HUD – when adjusting real-time settings, for example Brake Balance, the player will now see a HUD message to indicate what the setting has been changed to. The HUD will display “N/A” in the real-time settings HUD, messaging when a specific setting is not available due to it being disabled in MP session or not present on the vehicle.
* GUI – added a game version number display to the main menu.
* Assists – Enhanced Brake Assistance system so that people who are unable to use brake controllers at all can still play the game with this assist enabled.
* Assists – the Best Line assist now provides an option to only show the braking areas
* Tracks - Movable trackside objects and broken-off car parts will now be removed from the track after impacts.

Online
* New – added support for 'Force Default Setups' in Multiplayer restrictions screen.
* New – players driving the wrong way will now have their collision disabled and their vehicles will display as ghost cars.
* New – lobby search settings are now saved between sessions.
* Fixed an issue where the AI could remain stuck on the grid after the previous host left the session.
* Fixed an issue where the player was unable to select the Bentley GT3 in online races.
* Fixed an issue in Create Lobby where selecting Vehicle ‘view details’ would reset the class filter.
* Fixed an issue where the in-game chat box would scroll when the player pressed the accelerator and brake controls.
* Various tweaks to the behaviour of cars that are terminally damaged, and cars will no longer try to teleport to the garage if there are no pit lanes.
* Fixed an issue where the player could drive out of the garage again after retiring from a race.
* Further tweaks and improvements to the online lobby Car Class GUI – classes are now sorted alphabetically; changes are now only apply once the player accepts the new settings; ‘Create’ options defaults to ‘Any’ class; fixes an issue where the host would see only one vehicle in the quick vehicle chooser list if identical vehicles was set to ‘yes’.
* Fixed the rolling start option so that toggling the rolling start flag correctly updates MP game data.

Time Trial
* The standings info on the pause screen now shows real-time updated lap and standings info, and sorts the order of all active participants based on lap times.
* Fixed an issue where the player's best of session ghost time didn’t always exactly match his actual best of session time.

Pitting, Tuning, Setups, Strategy
* Fixed an issue where a selected tyre option saved to a setup prior to Patch 3.0 would cause a game crash after applying Patch 3.0 and using that saved setup.
* Fixed an issue where tyre pressures were not resetting properly when returning to pits.
* Fixed an issue where brake temperatures were being reset when the player entered the pits, leading to unexpected braking behaviour.
* Adjustments to fuel calculations when returning to pits during a practice session – when calculating the required fuel when the player returns to the pits, the estimated fuel levels are used for consistency.

Physics & AI
* Tyres – small adjustment to peak slip ratio or P Zero Trofeo, Faretti Track, and other soft-track road tires for road cars.
* Various improvements to AI navigation when entering and leaving the pit boxes.
* Improved the transition from road to off-road as certain off-road surfaces caused too much jarring on the steering.

Cut Track / Off Track System
* Sakitto International – further tweaks to the downhill Esses, to keep the AI on track when attempting bad passes that were causing the AI to hit the exit barriers.
* Various tracks – Nordschleife, Greenwood Karting, Silverstone National, Dubai GP, Barcelona National, Nurburgring Sprint Short – cut-track improvements based on latest community feedback.

Career
* Fixed an issue where the player would be placed first on the grid of race two in a multi-race round, after being disqualified from the first race. Disqualified drivers will now be placed at the back of the grid.
* DLC Career Accolades are now only present if the appropriate DLC pack is installed. This fixes an issue where the player was unable to do 100% completion of accolades due to non-purchased DLCs accolades also being present.
* Fixed an issue where bonus points were not being awarded for Kart series and some invitational events.
* Fixed a bug where the invitational events that require winning team championships weren't always unlocking.
* DLC Career Accolades – translated (non-English) strings added for Invitational Accolade – 320 Touring Challenge
* Fix to make sure player is placed last after skipping/simulating, in races where the second-best qualifying time is used for grid placement for the 2nd race (this was affecting Formula Rookie, LMP1-3, GT5 and Touring races).
* New – mandatory pitstop opening lap will now scale as well when the player scales the length of the race. For example, if the race was set to 5 laps, the pits would open for the mandatory stop on lap 2. If the player now scales the race length to 15 laps, the pits will open on lap 6 for the mandatory pitstop
* Improved Contract system to allow for extra entry level contract awards when progressing to a new motorsport, or when only being offered a renewal for the current motorsport.
* Improved the AI logic during races with Mandatory pit stops so that they will pick a more optimal time to stop when there is also changing weather at play.

Audio
* Tweaks to the Ginetta GT3, Clio and Bentley Speed 8.

GUI, HUD, Telemetry
* New – when adjusting real-time settings, for example Brake Balance, the player will now see a HUD message to indicate what the setting has been changed to. The HUD will display “N/A” in the real-time settings HUD messaging when a specific setting is not available due to it being disabled in MP session or not present on the vehicle.
* New – added a game version number display to the main menu.
* New – the Best Line assist now provides an option to only show the braking areas.
* Rebalanced the point at which Forecast weather becomes Current weather in the UI display so that the info display changeover better matches what the player is seeing in-game.
* Track temperature is now displayed on all in-game menus.
* Fixed an issue where the Time Progression slider skipped every 2nd option when moving the slider left or right.
* Track temperature will now display correctly based on the unit system and language selected by the player.
* Fixed an issue where the tyre wear meters on the HUD telemetry screen were flipped for the right front and left rear tyres.
* Track Temperature and Weather information are now positioned uniformly across all in-game screens.
* Removed redundant leading zeros from the KERS motec display.
* Fixed an issue where accessing the map or telemetry in the monitor screen would disable the player HUD in game.
* Fix full screen transitions issues.
* Vehicle Class icons – updated vintage F1 and vintage GT class icons.

Replays
* Replays – fixed an issue where vehicle damage would automatically be repaired when watching a replay.

* Added support for analogue handbrake.
* Fixed certain controller deadzone values being reduced by one when saving.

Vehicles

* BMW 320TC – fixed the top speed statistic displayed in the front-end.
* Caterham SP300R – added push-to-pass boost gauge to cockpit display and enabled exhaust backfire.
* Ford Escort and Mustang 2+2 Fastback – tweaks to help reduce climbing other vehicles during side-to-side contact.

* Added hybrid boost gauge to display for McLaren P1, Marek RP339h LMP1, RWD P30 LMP1.

Tracks

* Fix further cases where the pre-race cameras would at times cut into the track surface.
* Fixed an issue where vehicle windows would at times not render correctly when using centre cockpit cam and helmet cam.
* Optimized the save system so that saving takes less time.

Has there been any improvement to the running of the game? ie how the game seems to speed up and slow down.

Great! Now we just need to wait (and wait some more) for Microsoft to actually release it so I can have a V12 LMP1 car we can move forward with the game.

EDIT: Some of you have forgotten that 4.0 has been approved by Microsoft, but not actually out for the Xbox One just yet.

No fix for the CTD's and saving setups in career ? So the career is still unplayable :(
Why fix less important things when the game is unplayable due to constant CTD's in Career ?

Pit stops still not fixed
Replays Still Useless
Game Chat still broken
Speed ups still happening
Audio bug still happening
Setups bug still there
Sync to Race Weather?
Car magnetizing?
AI way too aggressive still

Course the patch that doesn't fix the biggest issues gets approved the quickest
Thanks for the hard work. Hope the patch that addresses the above issues is right behind this. I'll pass on DLC again til it's all fixed, but thanks

The only car(s) I want in the next DLC is the Lola Aston / Vantage GTE, and I want SMS to fix the game chat & online issues for Xbox, yeah I know it's not a Turn 10 budget but this game still drives better than Forza 6 on a wheel. But these bugs just bring it down so much, I still love it adore it etc but I just hope bugs vanish ASAP

It's no use to stop fixing other issues when one or two devs are trying to solve a particular issue. And if the latter requires more time/effort than wished, it also doesn't make sense to stop releasing other bugfixes that need fixing anyway.

Just out of interest, in light of some new bugs since patch 4 on PC and PS4 have SMS changed this patch for us at all or can we expect some of us to have these issues as well? I know there are a select few who have NEVER so much as seen a bit of screen tear let alone a bug so aside form the lucky few, are the new bugs from patch 4 coming with this?

No "real" fixes to anything. Anyone else notice how the patch notes list the same things as many as 3 times? Trying to make it look like a nice big patch or just poor proof reading?

Erm... no? The only fix I'm seeing twice is this one:

* Track temperature is now displayed on all in-game menus.
* Track Temperature and Weather information are now positioned uniformly across all in-game screens.

Its because things listed in the above summary also appear in the rest of the notes from what I can tell.

By definition shouldn't a summary be brief?

noun
1.
a brief statement or account of the main points of something.

Doesn't repeating the same things over and over kinda screw that up? No biggie, don't really care. Just sayin.

Your right, if it needs fixing then fix it, however the main bugs in the game need to be addressed first so we can at least play on line without the worry of getting x amount of laps into league races and get booted and be able to talk to each other. I'm sure I speak for most of us in saying that, I would sooner have them fixed over a rubber on a track being cleared.

21-09-2015, 14:46
The little things fixed in the patch are fine and dandy but it seems to me all hands should be on deck to fix the bigger problems. Anyone with coding knowledge thrown on the task of helping. If the ppl responsible for those specific area's of the game can't get them sorted by the time all the rest of these little things make it into a patch then perhaps they could use a hand. Form a tiger team and knock the major issues out so the users can stop b******* and enjoy the game. Myself included.

Well SMS wants to have that fixed ASAP as well, you can be sure of that, however it's not something that is quickly or easily fixed apparently. Mike Laskey posted recently that they have been working on it a lot, including implementing the new SDK from Microsoft.

Since different devs work on different things, it's not a matter of the online stuff getting fixed first before fixing something else. There's devs working on the online stuff, and devs working on other stuff (game flow, physics, AI, etc.). They work on separate things and a car physics dev cannot be put on fixing the MP issues, that just won't work. It's a very parallel process where each dev works on and delivers his/her own assigned work.

baz00ka
21-09-2015, 17:18
in fact if you make car physics dev help solve mp issues you are likely end up with bigger mp issue not to mention it would actually make the process resolving those issues longer not shorter as general public "common sense" likes to believe. its Brooks' law, look it up, holds true every damn time. anyways, whens the patch out ?

If the lobby browser now works correctly again online seems to be dead on X1. I find only one game with one player... Also there is always some new bugs when I start the game. There's a bug since launch which makes the car list invisible and many cars are lacking and can't be chosen. I just want to drive some laps with that nice force feedback feeling, but it's very hard to get that game working. I hard rebooted after 4.0 but still so many bugs prevent me from driving. I know SMS are working on this, but it gets frustrating. I would be happy if you could at least give me some DLCs to buy. I like to own more cars and spending real money is the only way to spend something in this game, besides spending time with bugs. But seriously I want to have some more cars and tracks. Buying stuff makes me happy.

Well the game is improving, and they are really trying. This was their first release.
I know its minor, but the saving times in the options really reduced drasticly!!
Don t know why, but you had to wait over a minute for it to save!!
Now its like BAM, done

Strangely the longest time I had to wait for the game to save before 4.0 was 5 seconds. Normally it would be even faster. I'm playing the game from an external hdd.
1 minute save times would make me instantly throw anything I own out of the window, without regrets. Fast saving is essential.

Agreed. My loading times are lightning fast on an external usb3. Helps the smoothness of the game out as well on my system. Great frame rate with full grids and I get very few bugs. I did loose my progress about 2 months ago and had to restart but that was the cloud save issue.

I highly recommend one to anyone on the fence about a good external drive

Nice, thanks.

i went with a 4 Tb which some said was overkill but I have a ton of games and have barely scratched my total storage. Plus with all the new functionality like DVR and backwards compatibility coming I think it's a smart investment. Plus the boost is a performance for many games.

A nice distraction from all that bugs would have been a new car pack released today. Since the patch was out yesterday and tuesday is the day the store is updated this would have been a logic step. I don't like it when I have to wait to spend my money. The game has no cars and I have many Euros. When can I finally spend them?

Hi All!
We played after the 4.0 approx. 10 hours with my friends online (6-8 player, GT3 and Clio Cup races). The game run nicely, some issues fixed. We haven't got any big issue so far. Looks the game run more smoothly, less frame drops and less collapse like before!
Of course there are couple of issues in the game but it's playable...leastwise the online part. We hope it's get better day to day!

Thanks SMS Guys for Your hard work! Keep on Your way!

The day will come and this game will be playable without any major problems... I just don't have the patience. That's why I want to improve it myself by buying DLCs. The actual amount of cars in Project Cars gives me the feeling it's a demo. I want to get some content out of this game, which hopefully gives me the feeling the 70+ Euro I payed for this game were well spend. That's why it is so important to release car packs earlier. I'll pay double if they one day finally make it to release a car pack in the beginning of a month, not in the end or in the next month.

Well, but if it always came in the end of the month, it's the same as always be in the beginning of the month. Don't get me wrong, I find the end of the month schedule odd too, but if the gap between released its steady it's all the same.

no offense but i think you have picked the wrong game. i havent yet tried half the cars in the game and i bought the game on release. the most i have tried there is quality to them, that is they feel and behave with some uniqueness and distinction and character. i hate to bring Forza into this as its the constant source of flame wars around here but i had 5 with its hundreds of cars and all that i have tried felt like a rendition of the same car to me. same with 6 demo. believe it or not but i spent alot of time playing a single invitation event with McLaren F1 at Zolder bc it took me time to learn that car and even tho i havent driven the real one it felt exceptionally well done to me in terms of its character etc. then after beating the event i spent some more time tuning that car and that was interesting experience for me even tho i'm not into tuning. granted not all cars are like that but it feels like the cars this game offers has a bit more going than re-tune and paintshop and i'd imagine it takes some effort and care to model them vs mass production in large numbers.

I don't have the wrong game. You don't know my preferences.
I want a racing simulation with the Force Feedback of Project Cars, which is Project Cars.
There's a reason why they tell us Project Cars 2 will have 200 cars. More cars ensure there are more cars I am interested in (I'm not the biggest fan of Renault and unlicensed cars). More cars is never bad. The car selection of Pcars is not bad at all, but there are missing many important manufacturers. You don't have to tell me the differences between both games. I can enjoy both of them.
But when it comes to Force Feedback Project Cars is my choice.
And a little bit of Ferrari, Lamborghini, Alfa, Jaguar and Chevrolet won't hurt Project Cars.

i'm not against more cars, if they are all modelled and proof tested properly by real racing pros the more the merrier. the problem is if they are not and it then becomes quantity over quality to cash in on demand if there are enough people like you keen to part with their money as soon as possible. you said it made you feel better. if they are burning a hole in your pocket give to red cross or unicef instead that should make you feel even better until new cars become available.

I agree, we want the cars behave as real as they can in a game...

I wasn't even aware there was a limit! That's per-car? Is it a technical limitation of some sort? Also, do I have to delete a setup somehow to add more? I don't see how to do this.

Well it's not quite a proven bug, as not everyone runs into it.
Do you have more details about what the exact error message is, perhaps a screenshot? What is your cloud storage size/free space, and how many files are in it?

I am beginning to tire of asking for the same thing since day one. Custom Career should be available offline. The career in game is only in most cases, 3-4 races long and it is NOT a full season of races. I would like to race at least 8-12 tracks in a season plus invitationals. That would be more realistic and would spark my interest. And the 4.0 upgrade has been forthcoming forever it seems. I almost don't want to go in there and play it anymore. Come on guys! Don't let this thing die, it has been the best effort to date of a realistic racing game. Since GTR2 anyway.

Well this game has honestly been disappointing. I had high hopes for this to give real competition to Forza. It made a ton of promises but ultimately fell short. The bugs still plagued by this game is honestly unacceptable. Especially the audio bug, SMS blames Microsoft but that's BS. No other game has audio problems. No other game is nearly impossible to play with a controller without hours of tweaking. I've noticed a lot of people tear down Forza for not being a sim. But that's crap. If you play the game with all the assists off you get a real simulation. But I'm sure I'll be torn apart for that. I for one will not be buying PCars2 nor will I support this dev any longer. I gave it my best to enjoy but it's just a broken mess. The PC version isn't bad, but iRacing is much better.

Forza with all assists off is a ice skating ring and deep inside you know it. The audio bug is present in the witcher too, those are the only games that use the seventh core. I agree about the bugs being a pain in the ass, though.
