View Full Version : Can a crash like Anthony Davidson's at Le Mans even be re-enacted in PCARS?

I was wondering this for a while now, since Anthony Davidson's crash at Le Mans 2012 looks so much like a video game type of flip I was wondering if it could be recreated in Project CARS.
Here's a video of his crash just for reference:

To me the main reason why the car got airborne was because air got under the car after hitting the Ferrari so the car flipped, similar to Ryan Newman's crash at Daytona in 2003.
One thing is for sure: it would take a lot of tries to get it perfect (if it is even possible) :p

No Ferraris in this game so I deem it impossible unless we get them in DLC tomorrow .

No Ferraris that's just ridiculous ! :) and you call yourself a racing game.

What about an Aston as a placeholder?

No, blowover physics are not in PCARS as far as I know, the only games I know where blowover physics exist are.....
-Grand Prix 4
-NASCAR RACING 2003 Season
-EA Sports NASCAR 06-09
-ETX NASCAR THE GAME 2011

I have this big flip&crash in Silverstone with a LMP1 car, but was a glitch (invisible wall).

Definitely makes it harder to make a crash comp out of, thats for sure.....

The cars in the nascar crash comp have weight and momentum they look great ......Like they have Inertia ........

Project cars accidents are unfortunately stale and boring , its like they weight 10 tonnes , they just stop dead ...

Nice comparison videos .....not bad for a game that come out 2003?

Funny I've had big fast sideways moments (Eu Rouge, Blanchimont) in LMP cars that had lifted on its side but didn't roll over (just).

Davidsons lift off looks to be caused by the "sail" thing behind the cockpit. Which apparently is a safety feature to stop roll overs. Freak accident. Big off. Not a pretty sight at all.

The Safety feature is designed to prevent sidelong spins from becoming aerial incidents by increasing the amount of sideforce. In the case of recent, massive aeriel LMP incidents the problem wasn't the fin (which actually becomes detrimental when a car is already under lift as the sideforce raises the windward side of the car, further exacerbating lift), but rather the upward motion of contact that put air under the car and against the flat floor. I am not a big proponent of totally flat floored racing cars and believe they should start punching holes in them to prevent incidents like this. They've gone very far with the fin and the removal of louvers or totally enclosed fenders. But they are expressing some amount of willful ignorance in the underside, probably due to regulation headaches.

I've had a few sideways moments in pcars where the air scoops up the side of the car so yeah it is possible. but the landing back on the wheels i havent had yet, just landing on the roof.

I'd imagine the safety feature works more often than not.

It'd cause massive drag when those things go sideways super fast. I wonder how the correction/ handling feels in the drivers' hands. NASCAR drivers are in big favour with their little roof plate that pops up. If that works well enough on those behemoths (that's what they are next to an LMP car)...

I once had a 911 GT1 little 1:10 scale electric RC car. It was an awesome little thing. Lots of understeer, from memory. For some reason I thought to remove the rear wing one day, and it became a drift machine! Funny at such low speeds and small scale how much aero balance affected a toy...

Kerbs are a detriment to society.
Also, nice car choice, I just love the P30.

When i was 12 years old i remember i had a lot of fun with Nascar (the first of 1994) going the wrong way and causing massive crashes :D

Crashes in racing are as important as the racing itself

I've flipped a car on a couple of occasions, sometimes my own fault and sometimes another drivers. It can happen.

When a car flips though, it can't fly through the air like IRL or the nascar game shown. I would like to see some airborn cars flip and crash in the game. It seems they only have real physics when the tires are on the Tarmac.
