View Full Version : GT3 cars at Brno - lap times?

Can anyone tell me how it is possible to get a 2 minute lap at Brno in the GT3 cars?

Now I'm not the fastest of all time...but I ain't the slowest either! Admittedly I do have a real life that prevents me from twiddling endlessly
with car setup options, but, I've been sim racing for years so I know my way around.

Anyway, online racing at Brno, and most guys who know the track are around similar lap times, between a late 2.02 and 2.03,
yet one or two are going noticeably quicker on a 2.00 lap which I just cannot see how that is done.

Is there some weird set up bug that makes the car stupidly quick?

Also noticed on this same track, in a few races where it rained in the last two laps and the car is sliding around all over the place,
when I came out the pits on wets, the cars who stayed at the front and didn't pit, were lapping same speed as me but they're on slicks
and I'm on wets, yet couldn't close the gap?

Any ideas what is happening here?

*Edited* wrong track

I've done a 2:00 in the Bentley

Apparently there's loads of people below 2 min: link (http://cars-stats-steam.wmdportal.com/index.php/leaderboard?track=3387066030&vehicle=1161219858).

Ai at 90 are doing under 2mins around Brno..

AI isn't really a reference. There's tracks where they're blistering fast at 80% and other places where even at 100% they're still rather slow.

But the ai must have a reference time to follow that somebody must have programmed?
Maybe you're slower on certain tracks than the ai.

We just did a 50 lap league race last week and times were between 1.58 an 2.00, I was consistently in the 1.59's with the Z4.

Brilliant info chaps, so now I need to understand why I'm getting stuck with 2.03's - that's in free practice with all sims switched on, and a couple of online lobbies.

Drastically changing the car setups hasn't really impacted the lap time for me. Admittedly I've mostly been using the RUF, I haven't really used the Z4 or Bentley.

Those of you who are consistently clocking 2.00 or less, how are you doing it? Are you just turning up with default set ups and easily managing that, or is it something
in the car setups?

Brno is a twisty track but I don't find it particularly complicated so I'm baffled at where to find that extra time. Maybe my tyre pressures are too high and killing my lap time?

Interesting that is using the Z4. Is that a PC leader board?

Looks like it, since all username links point to Steam.

Can you lap 1.59's in the other GT3 cars also? Is this heavily tweaked car setup?

I'm starting to get the feeling I've picked the slowest GT3 car!

That track is all about smooth driving, where its easily overdriven and loss of time occurs. Try adjusting corner entry speeds for better exits.

With the z4 I got my fastest laptime of 1:59 on Brno. When I started playing pcars I mostly drove the McLaren gt3 and had about 2:03-ish laptime.
After tweaking the setup with the springs and dampers and especially the ARBs and Diff I got better times. I adjusted the brake bias so that I could brake into the corner without losing the rear. In Brno you have to hit the apex perfectly and timing and smoothness is everything on Brno.

I was wrong not to change the indication of the platform in my username

I'm on PS4 too. I just assume those leaderboards are kind of representative for console users too. :)

3 laps clipped from an online race last night, mandatory pitstop at the end of lap 4 BTW thus the 2:02 and 2:18 laps ;) The SLS is a bit of a boat round here, I struggle to get it to go where I want at times.

I had done a couple of other races the previous week and wasn't happy with my performance, so spent an hour or so in free practice setting up the car and learning the track a little better. Still room for improvement though...

Z4 is more nimble so probably a better choice for this track.

Nice clip, you're driving the same lap as I am more or less, except i'm not quite getting the same time, but lines, braking points are all the same

don't think I can really improve the way i'm driving the track, I am pretty accurate already, this is why i'm puzzled.
I think I need to lap in the other cars and see what happens.

what kind of downforce are you guys using on this track?

graveltrap
20-10-2015, 18:15
Downforce is 0 front and 2 rear on the Mercedes, I am also using 0 camber as it is currently the most efficient setting to get round he tracks. The SLS is fast down the straights and heavy, so requires a slightly longer braking distance...

I'll try running in the SLS and see if I can get your time

Wow, I really suck at this game! hahaha

I never drove on the Brno track before I saw this topic, so I decided to give it a go. I picked the BMW Z4 GT3 and did around 10 laps now. My first times were 2.07.***. My best time set untill now is a 2.03:990

Edit; just, with a lot of effort, did a 2.03:916

The corner combinations on this track make it easy to lose time. If you don't take the combos the right way, you can easily lose .5 seconds or more, especially when they open onto a straight. In fact, now that I think about it. More than half the corners at Brno are tricky because of the combinations or the position of the apex.

Wow, great lap! Those corner-speeds. Amazing. I get MASSIVE understeer at those speeds........ Got a lot to learn.
