So I got myself a Razer Blackwidow Chroma keyboard. Apart from all the built-in effects (e.g. see this wave effect (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wd9PSgfVpiM), or this reactive effect (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=29n7nQsPUqU)), it also has an SDK that allows you to create your own custom effects.

So the first thing on my mind was to use it to create a little app to visualize Project CARS shared memory data. :) I created a small proof of concept that uses the F-key row to show RPMs in a nice green-to-red gradient. On the numeric key row I'm highlighting the current selected gear. So next up is to display some more useful info like tire wear and temperature, and possibly some other stuff that's useful if you like to drive without a HUD. Wave effects could be useful for waving flags.

See the video below for my first example:

When I'm done with the PoC I'll put a nice permissive Open Source license on it and publish it on GitHub. :) Note that this will work on any Razer Chroma keyboard, not just the Blackwidow. If I decide the numeric keyboard or mouse for anything that should also work on all Chroma models.

GitHub repo is up: https://github.com/NLxAROSA/ChromaDash

Up next is to make a nice minisite for it with info and place to download the binary. Then off to add some more functionality. :)
