I'm seriously thinking of getting one as I think it will add that next level of submersion.
However I would love to hear the opinions of people that do use them and what you think you get out of it ?

Thanks guys and Merry Christmas.

I use the playseat alcantara

I was a complete newbie to racing and went from pad through non ffb wheel to full playseat with ffb in about 3 weeks. I have found the use of a cockpit very good and does add to the overall feel of the game.

Having used the playseat for 5 months now my only issues are

the height, you are fairly low down so end up looking up at the screen so it's not the ideal view sometimes and

it can be a bit of a pain if you are having to get in and out of the cockpit a few times in a short period

Other than that no issues and glad I bought it as my first

It's a different world, living the dream,it's no where near the same experience,
Your in the zone behind any wheel, best thing in my life I've experienced, but that's only because I built a formula ford up in my loft out of an old f1 bed and mdf, full size I hasten to add, full racing harness, surround sound built into the car,ime a petrol head and a nutter I suppose, but hey what a thrill, but it all takes time, went from steering wheel on my lap to strapping my self in a car,it's stationary but didn't want a motion one anyway,my kids think I've lost the plot, can put some pics up later if anyone is interested, ime building another next year, side by side so I can challenge my mates,to cost it all up with Xbox, mad catz setup,52 inch tv,sound system, other stuff,2 grand I expect,
But yes,go for as much as you can afford and build on it,it's the best experience ever,

I had the Playseat GT for about 6 months and really enjoyed the experience, it was a little low in it's seating position, I upgraded to the GT ultimate from Next Level Racing and it is perfect now. I use a 55" Samsung LED TV and I have adjusted the FOV so that I am in the correct position, distance wise. I turned the driver wheel and hands animation off as it was more of a distraction, now the experience is perfect, like sitting in the actual car.
I love the height and position of the seat and there are so many adjustments and options for this seat. Best buy I have made.

I use a Granstand as my cockpit. It's a pretty good price, extremely sturdy when all the bolts are tightened down completely adjustable for any person, and it;s made from 80/20 aluminum extrusion tubing, so you can easily make mounts for just about anything, The only downsides that I can think of that the depth tray where the wheel mounts leaves little room to mount a button box.

The buttkicker will work on any system with a sound output. But as you can't really choose what sounds what's going to activate the buttkicker you will also feel it rumble by music in menus etc.
On the PC i have a software called Simvibe that uses a dedicated sound card for all the rumble-sounds instead. So that means it only rumbles on the sounds i choose in the software.

It does work and surprisingly well with xbox one and project cars.. Sim vibe is not an option with consoles but the buttkicker can still be pretty good by adjusting high and low pass through on the buttkicker amp. Also project cars has a good mono signal so you do get right and left curb effects. My advice is to isolate your chasis so you can run the buttkicker at a low volume.. This allows low engine rumble, curbs, large bumps and the ability to feel a thump during hard gear changes without hearing the constant rumble from wind or every bump. Race room gameseat already comes with built in isolators around the chasis but playseat requires the gamer 2 isolation kit and you will need 2 additional isolators to properly float the chasis.

Some wireless headsets will work as well. Older headsets that like that that use optical should work good. Some of the older turtle beach units have been rumored to produce better effects than the cheap 20 dollar converters.

I have an Obutto R3volution but don't use the monitor stand as I'm playing in front of a 50" TV screen on a desk. I have the Thrustmaster TX Racing Wheel + GT 28 Leather Wheel + T3PA pedals + TH8A shifter. Extremely happy with this setup. I use it for Forza 6 mainly but occasionally also Project CARS and Forza Horizon 2 on my Xbox One 1TB.

My old system was a Wheel Stand Pro + Logitech G25 racing wheel/pedals/shifter in front of the same TV (playing GT5/GT6 on PS3) but I was sitting in my couch on a pillow. What I have now is a LOT better. :) And not just the Obutto but that Thrustmaster gear is a lot better than the Logitech G25 as well.

try adding the seat slider, its only around 30 n it adds a little height to the seat aswell as extra adjustment option to driving position, i own the alcantra with g920 n i will never look back :worked_till_5am:

GT Omega Pro Cockpit with single monitor stand, 27" monitor, 10.1" tablet, 22" 2nd monitor, 5.1 surround system and a G27 wheel.

Only recently got all this set up and i got to say it all feels much more immersive and natural, before i sat at a small desk on an old office chair with a small monitor and 2 wimpy sounding speakers, its light years apart.

It seems to be based on Eddy's PVC Rig (https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/eddys-pvc-rig-from-start-to-finish-inspired-by-simul8r-now-with-insturctions.138156/). You can buy everything you need at your local hardware store.

I also build mine based on Eddy's. Gets the job done. I bought the car seat at a near scrap yard. Costed only 30$ CAD.

There's also videos online for that (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s9eOHHUhMWo).

UltraWideScreen 34" + a expired real Raceseat from the VLN :) + little bit handcraft
IMO the only important is that everything is very solid without any clearance, especially with strong FFB like a CSWV2. My table is doweled at 4 points into the wall :D, the seat has 8 anti slip pads on the ground. There is absolutly nowhere any movement.

To everyone with a fake leather Playseat: swap it for a proper car seat ASAP. Overall comfort in the Playseat isn't great to begin with, but the lumbar support is abysmal. Your back will thank you for swapping to something more ergonomic. Switching away from sweaty vinyl will also freshen your nuts up nicely.

Which is exactly what I have been saying since long, but got flamed over it.
I did own one (a Playseat) and I own a bad back also. The RaceRoom 2000 inclinable seat was 100% better and I now changed it for a Sparco Torino seat which ads an extra 50%. Really happy with it now and glad someone approves of my thinking... :D

does anyone know of a reasonably priced f1 style premade cockpit (seat, wheel/pedals holders)? i saw the ones by OpenWheeler but the pedals are too low and the bottom of the seat is at the wrong angle. im thinking ill have to just build my own. there are plenty of premade cockpits but i want one in an f1 position and it doesn't seem like theres a market for them because nobody makes them. i want the ass part below the legs, the pedals slightly below the chin and a nice leanback on the seat. i dont want or need a cushy comfortable seat, id rather have it slim and adequate than something you could catch a nap in. i found some pics of some i like, but the one i really like the guy kind of disappeared from the threads i found the pics in. some of you guys might have seen them, he has a gt style cockpit as well and the plans are finished for that one but the f1 is in limbo. if i can't find a decent premade or plans ill just use the pics of his and figure out how to make it.

yeah, isrtv was one of the places i saw the one i liked but like i said, the op hasn't been back to the thread in years so i don't know if the plans will ever be made available. not many of the diy (or even manufactured, commercially available) cockpits are in an f1 style. almost all of them are in a more traditional car style with the pedals on the floor and the seat upright. i guess i'll just plan out my own.

Nice start. Since you are using rather soft wood, you might want to add a cross bar in the front part. You will notice some play and in the end you'll probably manage to rip it apart. Don't underestimate the Force(FB) !

thanks, i'm refining as I go. I really wanted this to fold up quickly so i dont want to hinder that operation. Maybe ver 2.0 will be harder wood, so far it's been really solid. I'm used wood glue and wood screws at key/joints

Wanted to update my build. Well I built a completely new rig. Found a deal on some replica Recaro SPG bucket so why not. Working with MDF is not fun when you're trying to paint gloss. I'm on my 2nd coat of gloss white and will be adding some graphics to the side of the wheel housing. So far I'm pleased with how it's coming out.

that's a 55" I'm actually pretty comfortable with that distance. the Yellow stripe lines me up directly with the Samsung Logo which is dead center. I've considered, since I have room and a powerstrip mounted to my rig already, mounting everything (TV+Console) on the rig, but I would probably go down to a 29" monitor to maintain the same ratio. I still find myself glancing up to see the rearview.
