Tell us the truth SMS, are AI drivers really driving? :p

I read an article about that same Audi project in a recent issue of either Car and Driver or Road & Track. They did a test and compared lap times between the AI and a professional racing driver. The professional driver in an almost identical car was 9-10 seconds a lap faster on a track with a ~2 min lap.

Around a track on its own: sure.
Around a public road? OK. I mean read the sensors and stick to road rules. Cool. Been done already.
Round a race track at full tilt, by different teams all coding the AI to drive aggressive and fast to win...
Sounds like a job for some game devs ;)

So, when we all have driverless cars, we'll have to hire a professional driver with a little red button just in case?

Check this one out, am I the only one that finds this one a little bit scary?

Imagine it with machine guns and rockets.
