Tip-toeing around the track with massively extended braking zones.

last race I did in heavy rain I didn't even finish one lap without crashing so I don't understand your point here

Since patch 7.0, driving on dry is hard, imagine driving with heavy rain.

It all depends on the car and probably more importantly the tyres they are running, I have found. Some cars are a nightmare in the wet and require a very cautious approach while other handle it far better and you can still target those aggressive braking points.

I remember a WEC race in Silverstone, where Ben Collins described how much grip there was with the rain tires on his Ferrari at the time. So there is a lot more than our simplistic or romanticized view of how racing in the rain should be (ice). Using slicks on heavy rain (thunderstorm), is probably one thing, using the proper rain tires, another. How the track's drainage system works, the type of tarmac, lots of variables. I am just pointing this out to remind us how far away we are from a perfect simulated rain experience. Games have to compromise.

Of course, all that without counting any bugs in the game.
