View Full Version : Weather settings.....?

Can somebody give me a quick and simple answer on how to set up the weather progression in a race...? The race is formula B at Nurburgring GP, 1 hour qualifying and 40 lap race so about an hour of racing, ideally I want heavy cloud for 3/4 of qualifying with 1/4 rain at the end then 3/4 of race with heavy cloud and 1/4 rain at the end or something like that.. Thanks in advance.

Hi, this is something I'm really interested in too and I've been doing a bit of research today and a tiny bit of testing - going to do more later.

From my very limited understanding you'd need to set up four weather slots. The first three should be heavy cloud and the last rain.

You can then either:

1. The weather slots last for one hour, so you'd ideally want to set the weather progression to x4, so that one hour would be speeded up to 15mins. I don't think you can have x4, so x5 would be the nearest which means that the one hour weather slot becomes 12mins.

This means that you will have three weather slots of 12mins of heavy cloud (36mins total) followed by one weather slot of 12mins of rain. After that the weather will reset and start again.

It's not exact, there appears to be a bit of randomisation thrown in, just so you can never be certain when the weather will change. There will also be a transitional period as the weather changes (the rain will start very light and build up).

2. The other way to do it, and I've just tested it myself, is using Sync to Race instead of x5 (which is on the same slider).

This will, at least in the race, spread the four weather slots out equally between the number of laps (again, it might not be perfect as there is a bit of randomisation thrown in, I think). This means you'll have 10 laps of heavy cloud, followed by 10 laps of heavy cloud, another 10 laps of heavy cloud and then 10 laps of rain (40 laps total).

I tested it very simply with two weather slots, clear and rain. I did 5mins qualifying and the weather stayed clear, and then a 6 lap race - the weather was clear for three laps and then it rained for three laps. The rain started lightly and gradually built up over the course of a lap. Not sure what the weather would do over a longer qualifying.

I'm going to do more testing this evening, but these two approaches should get you something like what you're after.

I did a test with three weather slots, clear, rain and clear with weather progression at x30 (so each slot should last 2 mins). This is what happened:

Qualifying (5mins):
0.00 - 1.30 clear (1.30)
1.30 - 2.00 light rain (0.30)
2.00 - 3.30 rain (1.30)
3.30 - 4 light rain (0.30)
4.00 - 5 clear (1.00)

0.00 - 1.00 - clear (1.00)
1.00 - 1.30 - light rain (0.30)
1.30 - 3.00 - rain (1.30)
3.00 - 3.30 - light rain (0.30)
3.30 - 7.00 - clear (3.30 two clear weather slots together as the weather reset)
7.00 - 7.30 - light rain (0.30)
7.30 - 9.30 - rain (2.00 of rain instead of 1.30 as previous - not sure why, or if I got it wrong when I wrote it down)
9.30 - 10.00 - light rain (0.30)
10.00 - 13.30 - clear (3.30 two clear weather slots together as the weather reset)
13.30 - 14.00 - light rain (0.30)

As you can see it followed a very regular pattern of two minute weather slots.
