We have just announced the 2016 Driver Network Season!

There are several changes that you need to be aware of which will make the new Season fairer for everyone competing.

Please read about these in detail at: http://projectcarsesports.com/preseason

In particular:

There are two separate Series - one for Fixed Setups, and one for Open Setups.
Within each Series there are also two Divisions - one for PC, and one for Console (XB1 & PS4 combined).
Teams must now register to compete (http://www.projectcarsesports.com/teams.html) before April 1st and are allowed a maximum of 5 drivers per Series/Division.
Teams & drivers can compete in both the Fixed and Open Setup Series.
Teams can register different drivers for the Console & PC Divisions - allowing all teams to compete in both Divisions of both Series.
However, specific drivers cannot compete in both the Console & PC Divisions at the same time.

Please read the detailed article on our website (http://www.projectcarsesports.com/preseason.html) which explains these changes in-depth.

We will announce full rules and regulations for both the Fixed Setup and Open Setup Series in the coming weeks.

Teams! Do not forget to register your drivers before April 1!

Drivers competing as individuals, without a team, do not need to pre-register. However the other rules still apply. You can compete in both the Fixed and Open Setup Series at the same time, but you cannot compete in both the PC and Console Divisions of any one Series.

Nice news, I like! And I hope SMS fix the fuel bug with default setup and all the players drive with the same fuel in the tank. Or able the box menu to set up the fuel charge. That's is urgent necessary.

-Is their an overall standing for each series ?

-The final overall standing will include the two series combined or only one ?

-The final overall standing will be made with the 3 platform or their will be 2 winners ? ( PC-Consoles )

-We can made the two series right ? Because on the site we can't chose both we have only one choice.

-Is it possible to have two rounds on a week like last year ? It was too much...

-How long the championship ?

-Can we have more than one team registered if they have for example 15 drivers can we made 3 teams ? If yes can we have separated platform on a team ( PS4-PS4-PS4-Xbox-PC ) ?

-Is it possible to hide the round ? It will be great if they all started in the dark..

-How long a round ? Same than last year ?

-Is it possible to have one prize for the best time on each round including multi platform ?

Responses to Atho's questions.

Is their an overall standing for each series?

Yes, there will be separate overall standings for the Fixed Series and the Open Series.

The final overall standing will include the two series combined or only one?

There will be two separate Final standings, one for each Series. There will be separate prizes for each Series.

The final overall standing will be made with the 3 platform or their will be 2 winners ? ( PC-Consoles )

There will be 2 winners in each Series. One for PC, and one for Console (combined PS4 & XB1).

We can made the two series right ? Because on the site we can't chose both we have only one choice.

Teams can enter drivers for both Series. Please submit two forms if you wish to do this. One for the Fixed Series, and one for the Open Series.

Is it possible to have two rounds on a week like last year ? It was too much...

There will never be more than one round per weekend in 2016. The Fixed Series and the Open Series will never run at the same weekend.

How long the championship?

The Season will run from April to October.

Can we have more than one team registered if they have for example 15 drivers can we made 3 teams ? If yes can we have separated platform on a team ( PS4-PS4-PS4-Xbox-PC ) ?

You can register more than one team of 5 drivers per Series, but only if each team of 5 has a different name, e.g. Team Shark Racing A, Team Shark Racing B etc. Each team of 5 must include only PC players, or only Console (PS4, XB1) players. Not both.

Is it possible to hide the round ? It will be great if they all started in the dark..

Not sure what you mean, can you explain this question in more detail?

How long a round ? Same than last year ?

Round length will be the same as in 2015.

Is it possible to have one prize for the best time on each round including multi platform ?

Prizes will be announced at a later date.

I think Atho means it would be great if the event wouldn't show up in the list until it really starts. That way you couldn't build a setup and/or practice weeks in advance.

That's right, last year we can go on the community event see the track and come back to hotlap mode to see what car will be used.

That's right, last year we can go on the community event and come back to hotlap mode to see what car will be used.

Ah I see. Unfortunately, that isn't possible at the moment.

However, the situation is the same for all of the teams and drivers, so in most cases any advantages gained from early practice will be minimal as everyone should be able to practice should they choose to do so.

Yes, teams and drivers can compete in both the Fixed Series and the Open Series. Teams that want to do this need to submit separate registration forms for each Series.

A driver can race in the Fixed Series & the Open Series at the same time - on Console or PC in both Series - as long as they have been registered for both Series before April 1.

Hi graveltrap. The Driver Network events use the same basic ambient settings as the Time Trial mode. This is to make the championship inclusive for as many drivers as possible. That said, we're not against the idea of running wet/night events in the future - though these my go through ESL rather than the Driver Network Season.

This is also true on online rooms that have "default setups" enable, but thereīs a problem, every time you change your FFB, you start the race with an insane amout of fuel in comparison to someone who didīt change his FFB.
Is this supose to happen? Is it a feature or a bug?

Hi Nuno.

From April to October there will be approximately 1 or 2 Rounds per month in both Series.

Each Round will run from midnight GMT on a Thursday, to midnight GMT the next Monday. Players can set lap-times on the event leaderboard at any time during this four day window.

The Driver Network events in 2016 are Time Trials - just as they were in 2015.

The best drivers/teams from these will also be invited to any live race events that we host throughout the year.

So, it is possible to enter both (with and without setup) competitions on ps4 with a team A and a second team B of one RSP-team? As long there is in each competition in team A and B not the same drivers?

Example:
Competition without setup:
RSP - team A (5 drivers)
RSP - team B (5 drivers other then on team A)

With setup:
RSP - team A (5 drivers, same drivers as on team A without setup)
RSP - team B (5 drivers, same drivers as on team B with setup)

Do I understand this is possible?

If so, yes you can do this. You would need to submit four separate registration forms. One per team, per competition.

Whats in place to stop 1x driver creating multiple accounts, registering them as different drivers???
Because it would be highly possible that 1x fast driver in say Team A could create a console and PC gamertag, and default / tuned profiles, therefore ruining the whole event again, thankyou...

Thanks for the reply, The last round at Dubai did not use the base TT settings, the weather has be altered from light cloud to clear, so is it possible from a technical standpoint t or was that due to a bug?

If it is possible maybe a test using a stand alone community event would be worth while, to see how the people playing the game respond?

Another question, will the track limits be tightened for these events of is it a case of self policing again?

Hi Simmo. We are taking as many steps as possible to reduce the risk of issues like these occurring in 2016. Limiting teams to a particular number of drivers and requiring them to pre-register for the Season is just one way of doing this. As is the fact that teams will only be allowed to change their driver lineups once, in a Transfer Window during the summer.

We'll be tracking much more driver data than we did last year, so it will be easier for us to spot any weird anomalies which could be evidence that a driver/team has cheated.

Enforcement of the rules will also be stricter, with specific penalties outlined in the regulations before the season begins. If anybody attempts to subvert the rules this year, the penalties will be harsher and better managed.

We'll be publishing full rules and regulations for both the Fixed & Open Series in the next couple of weeks, which will address concerns from 2015 and some of the questions we have been asked so far about 2016. So please keep an eye out for those being released soon.

We're aware now of what happened with the Dubai weather, so you should see consistency in 2016.

We have also tweaked the track limits rules for 2016. You'll be able to read about this when we publish the full regulations in the next couple weeks. SMS staff will still conduct a final review of each event's laps, but the tweaked rules should make this significantly fairer for the drivers and teams, as well as easier for us to manage.

cmch15
04-02-2016, 22:04
They could but it wouldn't gain anything. It would be a specified number of dropped scores, lets say 2 from 8 rounds. It would always pay to score as highly as possible and in every round if possible.

It just means that everyone would only have their (for argument sake) 6 highest scores counted, out of the 8 rounds.

Eg. if you entered all 8 rounds, you could afford a couple of bad runs. If I only enter 6 rounds I'd have to make sure I scored well in all of them.

As long with 2 wheels are within the white lines? So many questions :)

There will be clear regulations for track cutting. These have been tweaked slightly from last year's rules, to make them fairer and easier for our staff to police. Regulations will be published well in advance of April 1, so there will be plenty of time for you to read them before the registration deadline.

Hi John. At the moment, we are sticking to the idea of 'race weekends.' With a few days either side of the actual weekend to allow people to set times on some weekdays if they prefer. Having the events last a full week would make them much harder to regulate from our side. That said though, I won't rule this out completely for now.

Hi Joseph,

Is SMS-R 2016 with real assists on ? Because last years, sometimes there is cheating with the assist. An example on YouTube with Yinato best time on Silverstone and Nurburgring GP on Formula A, he use ABS assist (as he says in description and as you can see on the hardes breaking points), it's just an example but i'm sure there is so many driver's which use that fail :

Assists are allowed, as we want who keep Community Events like these open for drivers of all abilities. That said, the fastest drivers on all platforms still tend to be wheel users with all assists off.

All of the teams have their own ways of operating so we can't really give you specific directions about how to join one I'm afraid. Perhaps open a new thread in the eSports section to say that you're looking to join a team and see what kind of response you get.

Is this right because if you set "force defaults" in MP environment it fixes FFB at the in car defaults?

Could you please clarify that if "Team AAA" enters 5 different teams, all with different drivers....

Team AAA =34 pts
Team AAA2 =22 pts
Team AAA3 = 6 pts
Team AAA4 =14 pts
Team AAA5 = 2 pts

Will Team AAA get the total amount of pts scored 78, or individual pts scored 34.
Just curious as a big team could have say 50 or more drivers, so 10 plus teams is possible.
So even though Team AAA,1,2,3,4,5 etc are all the same team members, is it seperate scoring system for just 5 driver 1 team or 50 driver 10 team combined?
Thanks

It is separate scoring for 1 sub-team. Team AAA1 (with 5 drivers) score their own points, they will not be combined with team AAA2 (of 5 different drivers to team AAA1). That is how I understand it works.

I think its a little bit crazy if Team AAA can enter more than 1 team of 5 driver, they could have A,B,C,D teams, that makes it unfair towards other teams looking to score points.
Plus it will make it alot more competetive sms r if teams can only register 5 max, therefore faster drivers will be forced to race in different teams and not just Team AAA 5th or 6th team

I might be wrong but I assume a team manager can only enter one team in each series. So long as a team is entered separately with different members and a different name, it's a different team and will be treated as such.

Edit: Similar to Red Bull and Toro Rosso in F1 or Triple8 and TWR in V8SC running other cars under different names.

This is correct. Please note that so far we have not had any teams enter multiple squads of 5 drivers, so we are not expecting any issues like the ones mentioned by EMW Simmo at this stage.

Hi Joseph !
I have just a question, you said "Assists are allowed, as we want who keep Community Events like these open for drivers of all abilities [...]". Does it mean there will be all assists on for the LGCS or you were talking about the others Community Events ?
Thank you !

Yes, assists will be available in the LGCS. However, if it's anything like last year's SMS-R season, the fastest drivers will still be the ones with assists turned off or set to 'real.'

Will assists be free in the default series as well? It seems to me that they would be better forced to real, as then everyone has exactly the same set of problems to deal with, which is kinda the point of default setup right?

Assists will be free in both series. The championship is designed to be inclusive. We want a variety of abilities to at least feel that they can take part. As mentioned previously, past evidence has shown that even with free choice of assists, the top guys still tend to have assists off or set to 'real.'

Hi Joseph! I was hoping last week for some info/rules/agenda for the fixed setup challenge. When can we expect this info?

We're hoping to publish them ASAP as soon as we have finalised the title sponsor for the Challenger Series. That said, you can expect the rules to be very similar to the LGCS, of course with the exception that the Challenger Series will have Fixed Setups.

We will also publish the Challenger Series schedule at the same time as the rules.

Hi Joseph. I'm in the event now. But I only get traction control. Can't use abs or stability. Also, there is tyre wear, don't know if this how it's supposed to be. I saw on the pc leaderboards they can use all assists.

It looks like there is difference in pc and ps4/Xbox indeed if I look af the times. But that is not a big problem, because there are 2 divisions. The pc guys have their own competition, seperated from consoles.

My laps on PC with all assists enabled are most definitely using all assists. I'm generally a 100% no assists driver but enabled them for this POS to stay competitive. I'm qualified to tell the difference between assisted and unassisted, and I'm most definitely being assisted.

That said, If I switch to external cam the HUD leads me to believe only Traction Control is enabled. Again, ABS and STM are definitely working although the HUD doesn't display this. I'm only getting the little Traction Control squiggly.

Yeah it depends on the car whether I use any assist (and the 'rules'). I looked at the pc times with the 'online leaderboards tool', and there it says people drove with abs, tcs and stability. I can confirm for sure only ('real setting') traction works only with this car on this event with ps4.

Just to confirm it is not possible to alter the assists on pc too.
It's been the same with the old challenges before. It has been reported months ago but not fixed.

Even more problems:

Another bug since release which will make checking the validity by ghosts pretty much useless, is that sometimes the wrong ghost is uploaded and shown on the leaderboard.
The last time I saw this happening was last week. I've set a time on SonomaGP in FGulf1000 which was arround 1.28.50 something, the uploaded ghost (which I checked afterwards) was showing a laptime maybe arround 1.32 something, several seconds slower.
This has also been reported months ago and is still in the game.

Another thing which ppl who want to set fast times should know is to empty the fuel tank in the setup before, because timetrial will count the fuel set in setup and not the 5L showing in the hud.
Another bug which seems to be in since release, it's been reported months ago and just another time just some weeks before this event started.
There's no fix for that in the release notes.

I wonder if you will fix the differend fuel load which ppl will have in the default setup challenges which will start soon. This has also been reported a day after the patch introducing default setups got released.

On my rig i get the helps i select in the global settings to work in the driver network events. If SBS or ABS is enabled there its enabled in the event ....
And thats what the stats in the leaderboard showing !
Theres no way for me to use the mapped buttons to switch settings on or off during the event, the game only outputs an "ABS = - " for example instead the ON OFF Indicator.
The HUD assistant symbols ingame are useless cause theyre not showing the truth, you can only "feel" it or notice it due decreased top speed, a good indicator for a working traction control.
So i cant confirm mangators experience of those things.

Even more problems .....
- The tuning setup of my TS040 in Sivlerstone is freakin out after changing multiple settings from time to time... After a various number of setting changes the car behaves in different ways from Session to session ..... Only thing that helps is a reset to default and fill in the settings again.
Thats very frustrating for our Team. Were not that great geniuses at doing setups and if you cant be sure youre get on track what youve tuned before makes it not really possible to be competitive.....
- The measurement of lap and sector time compared to your all time best and theoretically best time is a spooky thing. Yesterday i tried to beat my time compared to my alltbest with the HUD. I was ahaed of mei leadership time the whole
hotlap but then in the moment i crossed the finishing line i got added a ~1 second delay. Those that moments you would like it to take your PC and throw it out a Window.. I could repeat this phenomen yesterday hot Lap for hot Lap....
Iam sure everybody will agree its hard to get better with this funny phenomens ......

I would agree that the car tune goes v bad/weird after too many tweeks n needs resetting to default, also there is definate lag/delays especially in sector 2, i was flatout but losing nearly 1 sec on some laps, yet in TT constantly within 0.1.
And also the ghosts are acting up/strange, prob an xbox issue, but whatever the game is certainly not playing at 100%?????

We also got these feeling but iam not sure if thats a track or a car problem (to many setup changes seem to have an effect). But it could be possible. Curbs are a good exampe for it.. with the same setup there are moments i can drive "fast and easy" over them another try or session the car humps over them like rocks. Or the slower corners.. sometimes the car goes smooth around it many other sessions the car just wont "relent". But last could also have to do with the assist problems (the abs seem to work more less as longer the event is running, today i didnt got it to work at any try).

The funny thing is if i take the same setup and switch to time trial the car drives much better there even i get many times a much better FFB Feedback from beginning. I can feel it from the moment the game gives me control over the car. If i switch back to community event after driving 4 or 5 cornes in the time trial the FFB response feels worse again. i dont know how to describe the difference best but compared to time trial the community event FFB feels like driving a wheel with an overheated FFB motor.

We've looked into the difference between being able to activate assists on PC versus console, and whilst we can confirm the discrepancy there are no plans to change it currently.

The PC and Console Divisions are separate and therefore they do not interfere with each other. If you want to turn SBS and ABS on during your PC Division time attacks then that's fine (although arguably you'll find you're slower than having no assists as per the default).

Similarly, some will have noticed that the PC and Console patch numbers are different, this is purely down to changes added for VR and again this is why PC and Console were separated for the 2016 season.

Good morning mr tudor,

as you can read from people posting in this thread it is NOT possible to turn on or off assits on PC. The setting is fixed to real which means there's only TC for the Toyota.
Now you confirm that it is possible to change the assists on PC for you.

You sure have tested it on your side, can you please explain how you have done this? It is NOT possible here.
Assuming you are right and able to change the assits on your side it seems we now have the situation that some can change it and some not (on the same platform).

That would be very unfair, don't you think so? Can you please clear this up?

How is your LOCAL "allowed assists" setting configured? "None", "Real" or "All"?

Hello,

I can confirm what the others are saying, even on "All assists" selected in the local game's settings (to answer Bealdor's question) we are only able to have TC.
Then if we are all on an equal footing, I don't mind using real assists, but as Mezzanine said if some people can have ABS (which makes you gain a bunch of time) or SBS then it's pretty unfair.

Bealdor, Assists worked fine on the PC during the first round. Users may not have been aware but they did. I had assists set to on/allowed in the settings an individually turned off/on certain assists also in the settings menu.

I think we are running into a confusion with changing on track and off. In the menu's, assists worked and translated to the track. Changing them on track (with button mapping) did not work. At the start of the weekend we were advised my Joe/Andy to map a button for assists and make the change on track. This did not work (at least for me, was notified by a message on screen) I had to change them in the menus for them to stick.

Also, to add to the confusion, the HUD/Motec did not show the correct assists; only one assists was visible on the HUD (I believe TC) even if you had ABS, STB, and TC enabled it did not show correct. I used ABS for a few runs, checked HUD/Motec and it showed only TC. I am 100% positive I had ABS enabled as I was never locking up. I did heavy braking tests to confirm.

Know we are getting conflicting reports but I think the confusion is with on and off track changes and the HUD indicating wrong assists.
