So I just built a new PC. Making to switch (in pCARS at least) when the GOTY edition comes out.
I have: G1-Z170X MB | intel i7-6700k @ 1.21 gigawatts (4.6 Ghz) | and the other goodies.
I put my old 660ti in there for now. Debating on getting a 980ti or just hold off until the new cards come out.

Suggestions?

when it comes to GPUs, there will always be something new just around the corner. Wait for one of the new ones? There will be a faster variant in a few months after that. Part of the joy of PC ownership :D.

What resolution are you thinking of running? For smooth 4K use, I'd look at the 980Ti now and just upgrade it later IF you really need to - ie, something comes out that needs more power than that, or you start going triple-screen :).

just 1080p for now. and I run 3 monitors, just not in triple screen format. Will only use one for the sim and the others for 3rd party apps, etc.

In that case, even a 980 will suffice at this point (possibly even a 970). Use that saved money towards a better card later or even a VR headset ;).

Get yourself the best GPU you can afford(!) now and never look back. There'll always be a better deal available 6 months later, it's just in the nature of things.

Save the money for the new cards. Alternatively, buy the 980Ti and get a Rift or Vive :D.

EDIT : Actually, I sort of misread your post. Yeah, go for the best one you can afford without going into debt working on the basis that you'll probably replace it in 2-3 years max.

Congrats on making the jump from Xbox to PC, Xbox1 did wonders for PC gaming, and by that I literally mean it pushed a bunch of people OFF of Xbox1

I agree with the above, get the best one you can get and be done with it. I have a 5 year old i7 and MB combo and all I did was add a 970 and im still golden. With YOUR setup you can definitely breathe easy for a long time. Go for it.

I will be upgrading my CPU/MB soon, but its nice not to feel like I have to.

980ti is better than the Titan X, the Titan is overpriced for performance vs the 980ti.

With a GTX970 I have to drop quite a lot of settings to maintain 60fps stutter free in all conditions at 1080P, it can be frustrating to change settings all the time so I have taken to leaving them at a balance that does not go to poop when there is rain or such

The picture quality is still great but it is annoying to know it could be so much better...if it is possible I would recommend getting GTX980Ti, I wish I had now...

Well i have a SLI setup with 2 GTX970SC and also 1920x1200 here. Its a cheap way beating the TITAN X.

60 fps in all condition with 20-30 AI is no problem maxed out.

If you get the CV1, let us know how it goes. I'm very interested to see how well this works!
