View Full Version : How do you play?

Andy Rink

What are your favorite modes?

I prefer to just race solo lap-times. The AI is smarter than me and I don't want to be "That Guy" who uses your car as a brake on the turn-in in multi-player.

So I just try to work on my laps. Mostly solo.

It's funny, I just set solo laps and try to beat my own times. I'm not even good, but I enjoy myself. Then I watch my replay. Gorgeous stuff.

95% career mode as I enjoy it a lot.
5% free play to quickly try out a certain car on a certain track.
0% multiplayer as I only recently picked this game up again (barely played it in 2015) and I'm not confident/good/solid enough to race multiplayer.

Just quick race and free practice, tried the career when the game first launch but I stopped it due to a bug back then that reset the gears to N or first gear when you try shifting up or down. Should give the career another chance since that is fixed.

I reckon....

Quick Race 40% - typically 5-15 lap races
Time Trial 30% - jump from car to car and track to track
Multiplayer 20% - With RSR - Im way to slow to compete alas and try to look for the more easy going races / shorter races as I just cant concentrate well enough for 90 mins +
Career 10% - Main reason here was to get some semblance of multi class races - ie the WEC stuff - wish we that option in quick race.

Almost all of my time in Project CARS has been spent in either Time Trial (inc. the NVidia championship that is currently running) or multiplayer races. I briefly looked at the career mode, over a year ago, but did no more than 2 or 3 races in the Formula Rookie. Since I don't know what I'm doing with car setups, I never even bother spending much time in Free Practice in preparation for the multiplayer races.

95% career mode, of which I repeat the practice session 3 times just setting up my car.
4% community events and TT
1% online MP. This will change soon

I've never done a QRW as I find the career mode to be extremely satisfying.

10% - Career - Just getting started with it now after a year. ;)
10% - Online - Mostly league races when I have time.. Every now and then a pub race.

Haha, not exactly the answer I was expecting, but true enough! I love being able to step in to a car in my living room, in my underwear, and race a 2 million dollar car that I couldn't afford to put a fingerprint on. :)

Mostly quick race weekends for me, which is pretty much how I've played every sim all the way back to GTR2. That said career mode in GT Legends was pretty good iirc.

Mostly hotlapping like you since the internet sucks bad here, the odd online race when my ISP decides to not packet loss, which is rare. Usually there is beer involved also, which goes well below 6, after that it is hit or miss.

Free practice and time trial mostly, with the occasional foray into career mode. I also enjoy setting up a race where I start at the back of the grid and try to cleanly overtake as many cars as I can.

I love pCars cause I can drive drunk without killing a family haha. I would urge everyone who likes solo laps, to use Time Trial mode. It is the only way to get your time on the leaderboard as far as I know. I've set times. None impressive, but I still enjoy myself.

That is no easy task. The AI in shift 1 I could beat. The AI in Shift 2 gives me a much harder time, and the AI pCars is up there with the AI in shift 2. Even on massive head injury difficulty, they beat me.

edit: You would not believe how long it took me to get that corvette.

edit 2: I think I spent 2 days racing the vettes and catalunia to get that car.

With a knife between my teeth!

Edit: seriously, mostly solo with some mods like custom grid and multi car skins. I like to simulate endurance races with a full field and all weather conditions switched on. I do day and night cycles in 4 hour timed races.

I've only just started playing this again after taking a long break from it but so far I've just been playing offline race weekends to hone my race craft before playing online again.

I was never one for the career mode so I just kept mostly to offline endurance racing with the AI, probably be doing that again.

Mostly quick races. Would recommend trying races with only 3 or 4 AI opponents. The AI seem to be much better to race against this way.
Also, the replays are much better to look at and work much smoother. :)

Mostly career at 100% session length and 80% AI difficulty. Have been through open wheelers from karts up to Formula B, then jumped over to prototypes and did LMP3 - LMP1. Now I'm on GT cars. I did one season of GT4, two seasons of GT3 in the Merc SLS and just started my 3rd GT3 season in the Ruf. Along the way I've won a few of the invitationals. Others seem impossible, like the early season BMW 1M event at Nurburgring Short Sprint. I want to start doing some endurance races but without a way to save the game state, I'm not sure how to approach them yet. And I still plan on doing at least one season of Formula A.
