Project CARS - PC Patch 11.2

Hi all,

A new Project CARS patch is now live on Steam. With this patch we're adding a way to configure VR super sampling in the game's settings file.

What does this do? - It provides a way to scale up the resolution of the image rendered by the game, so that when it is displayed on the VR HMD, it appears clearer, with less shimmer and aliasing artifacts

How do I do this? - Look in this folder: \Users\<current user>\Documents\Project CARS\

Depending on the HMD you're using...
Oculus Rift, edit: oculussettings.xml
HTC Vive, edit: openvrsettings.xml

Look for a line called
"<prop name="ResScale" data="1" />"

Change the number after 'data=' to whatever you want to set your super sampling to. Higher numbers will increase the resolution, while lowering the number will decrease the resolution. We recommend starting with a value around 1.5 and experimenting with it from there. How much you can push this will depend on your GPU.

Have fun :)

*Spoiler - The difference this makes is pretty darn sweet!*

And, other question,

- Do you include all community liveries, soon ?

really appreciate this as using the debug tool is a pain & i tend to forget to set it & SS makes it look significantly better.

It ruined the tracker again... how can I remove update 11.2 Why didn't someone tested it on trackir. I am a first pcars user, there was no vr at that time, now we have to make room for those new players???

Awesome... No VR here yet... hoping to find a OSVR under the christmas tree

@Alfred57 welke VR heb je?

Geen VR... TrackIR met de laatste update liep trackir pas na maanden zoals het moest, deze update maakte dat weer ongedaan

Nice addition, I think it was yesterday when I looked into that file looking for exactly this line =)

Good update (not tested it yet though).
Too bad it's not something that can be applied in game through the UI, or even better, during race (to really see the difference), but It was so tedious to change SS value before, rebooting the headset for each game, now, it has been one less.

1.5x seems a bit too much to start with, at least for my 970, but I will surely find my happiness around 1.2/1.3.

Thank you.

Sorry made mistake, what happened with TrackIR? After the last update it worked how it should work. This last update messed it up. Is VR importance above TrackIR. This is a first moment user, the moment when VR didn't exist...

The TrackIR issue will be looked into, thanks for reporting. If you have any info on how it's not working (blue light not coming on on the TIR device, or tracking workingbadly or none at all), please post here.

Strangely, 11.2 causes no issues with my OpenTrack/IR setup, which functions essentially as a TrackIR clone. I trust everyone checked to make sure their camera view didn't default from Helmet Cam back to Cockpit after the patch?

Just had a test, TrackIR working just fine for me. Green LED for recognising an enhanced game comes on instantly on launch. No issues with head tracking while driving.

Thanks for that!

It might be helpful if some share what value they can achieve (maintaining smooth FPS/tracking) with [insert GPU and CPU here] to build a little index.

Trackir works , but goes so fas, it is unplayable, just as before patch 11.1 Een with the speed at 0.1 it goes from left to right and not adjustable..

1.5 to 1.7 ist ok on my 980ti
HTC Vive: Well enhancement
OSVR HDK2: Nope. I think the contrast on HDK2 is so high, that flickering will not go.
Tried also 2.0, but fences, tribunes and all leaves of trees are flickering.
Either i have a hardware problem, or HDK2 developers have to hack the display.

Anyone with the same effect on HDK2 there, or does it work for you?

Same here no issues that I could see. Started TrackIR, Launched Project Cars from desktop icon. Took several laps in Race Weekend in BMW Z4 GT3. All seemed fine. Haven't tried Multi yet.:)

Alfred57, try this profile for trackir, see if any better.

You saved me with that profile, thank you very much. I don't really know what messed u my TrackIR after update, but this solved it, thanks again you made my day..

Im Not Noticing a Huge Graphics improvement and anything over a 1.3 the FPS hit is Just Too Bad and Causes alot of Stutter...Driving in the Day time is Fine but Its really Noticable with Night time Driving when the Head lights come on...
20 car Grid, Car Detail Ultra, Track Detail Ultra, Shadows High the Rest are Low or Off.... I think Motion Blur is set to Medium... i will Tray setting it to Off.... Going Back to 1.0 for Now.....

Question what was it set to prior to the update??? This way i have something to compare it against.

Thanks for that!

It might be helpful if some share what value they can achieve (maintaining smooth FPS/tracking) with [insert GPU and CPU here] to build a little index. As per the rig and settings in my sign, I can confirm super sampling is not usable in my case (framerate issue) even at 1.2

I also suspect something has changed since the last time I played, because even without SS, I still got a few drop here and there that I didn't got before.
Maybe it is related to async reprojection (didn't test since it was available) or maybe some options have change behavior (as I shown in the HTC thread (http://forum.projectcarsgame.com/showthread.php?47083-HTC-Vive-Discussion&p=1292147&viewfull=1#post1292147), -novrmirror did more arm than good in my case)

Im using Oculus Rift and I get Really Bad FPS drops anything over 1.3 .... 1.2 the FPS drops are there but Not as Bad... 1.1 there is No Notable Diff.... Think im Going to stay with 1.0 but the Quesrion is what was it before the update so we can have something to Compare the increased Setting to??? was it 0???

Schadows
22-11-2016, 13:53
The variable was already present before and was already set to 1 (but changing its value didn't do anything (http://forum.projectcarsgame.com/showthread.php?47083-HTC-Vive-Discussion&p=1289898&viewfull=1#post1289898)).
If it's a "scale" like the name suggest, "1" would be the normal value for such a multiplier.

if you delete the file, project cars will create a new with default settings on next time startup

Ok, false alarm, it was just that the async and interleaved reprojection were enabled at the same time (strange to set it that way by default) that was giving me horrible stutters. Enabling one or the other got my smoothness back.

I'm Noticing with a setting of 1.1 there is actually a nice improvement:yes:While maintaining 44.9FPS most tracks... this makes me wonder if 1.5 and 2.0 are actually too big of a jump:confused:... I'm using a EVGA 1070 so if a 1.5 setting is possible i should be able to run it with not a huge problem... Full PC specs in My sig.....is it possible that the increases were meant to go 1.01, 1.02, 1.03 ETC.

I have been testing 5pm with 60x time acceleration on California Hwy Full, 20 car grid Sion FRS mixed car race all same class...The only slow down is at the start of the race 35+FPS after that the FPS stays between 44.1 and 44.9 with for the most part with Nice smooth picture quality (some of the tracks still have Graphicly glitchy parts though... seems Track Graphics related rather than settings related)

aside from being a good test run... racing this track with Oculus is just Hella fun!!! the Oculus, The buttkickers, head phones its like I'm really there!!! Im hooked!!!

If I'm Correct this video describes what we are trying to do with these settings we are just doing it through PCars and not Oculus settings...am i Correct???

If it's the former, then please remember to 'Reply with Quote' in future as it's difficult to keep track of who's replying to who or what. If it's the latter, then it doesn't belong in here. This thread is specifically to discuss the 11.2 patch, not previous or future patches/support :).

Disregarding FPS hits:

Anything over 1.5 will cause serious mip map issues (downsampling speckle). Above 1.5 the image will look WORSE even though the computer is rendering a higher resolution image.

1.3-1.5 is the peak for visual clarity until we get mip map correction (which has a quite large performance cost... so don't expect to be able to use it any time soon even if it is introduced).

My experience with this is that the performance cost is pretty decent so long as Anti-aliasing is not being used at the same time. Any pre-downsample AA has an exponential hit on performance when downsampling is increased. Post downsampling AA will just blur the image and remove any details introduced. In game DSAA used in conjunction with PPDP (the new setting) will also put huge stress on the GPU.

Hi, question, what are your PCARS graphics setting?
I asked because I have get a project cars VR Crash/Hang on any setting other than 1 (even 1.1), I have been running with everything on ultra settings at 4k (3480x2160) on screen and left those settings in place when switching to my HTC Vive, those settings work fine until I change the "ResScale" data=“1” from 1 to anything higher. My hardware config below:

CPU: Intel Core i5-6600K
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 32GB DDR4 3200
SSD: 2 x PNY CS1311 2.5" 480GB SATA III
GPU: ZOTAC GeForce GTX 1080 AMP! Edition

Hipor

For me the same.
never had crash/hangs before.

i have htc vive with gtx 1080 .

i really hope they can solve this problem..

im using SS 1.15 and its working great...Check video below...i show my in game settings at end of Video.
Note I always test under Thunderstorm with 16 car Grid to create a load on the GPU so i can tweek for max performance under load...in Clear weather the FPS is Much higher:yes:...I'm using Oculus rift i don't know if that makes a diff...also i don't use steam VR to launch Pcars...I launch it Oculus Rift Mode IMO it give a Better/Clearer picture with Higher FPS.

Edit: note that Track detail Ultra seems to have a Big impact on FPS with No real Visual benefit...I suggest setting track detail to High Max.

Has any 1 else Noticed that Launching Pcars in VR Via Steam using "Oculus Rift" Mode is Better than using Steam VR to Launch Pcars??? I see a Notable diff between the 2... Oculus Rift Mode has Better Picture Clarity and FPS.

I still hope for a VR+SLI patch in order to improve video quality of my Rift. But thatīs just an unsustantiated hope of mine, nothing more. :)

I would really like to get me a second 1080 just for the sake of having it (being restless a little), but... it just doesnīt make any sense as long as SLI is not supported for the Rift.
