What is the difference between full damage and performance impacting?

performance impacting has more to do with engine damage (which decreases performance)
Full damage is "the whole package" (wheels falling off, spoilers flying away,...)
One is a bit more forgiving than the other...

Oh it'll wreck your suspension if you bang a wall and ruin your aero too.
The only difference I see is that wheels won't fall off. You'll at least be able to make it back to the pits for repairs.

Full damage can bust your radiator too, even with minor knocks. Send engine temps shooting up then pop goes your motor.

Doesn't this only happen if mechanical failures are turned on? I run full damage but with mechanicals turned off; never had that happen, even with an unsavory amount of knocks.

Oh Ye that's with mechanical failure: on.
Without it, I think the engine temps are capped or just don't go high enough to let go.
