The user breyzipp has taken some effort to start a thread (http://forum.projectcarsgame.com/showthread.php?50866-Project-CARS-2-recreating-real-life-multi-class-championships) for gathering information about real life multi-class championships and how they might be recreated in Project CARS 2. Because of the wide selection of cars and tracks in the game, single-class championships could be also interesting. Moreover, there were some rumors in the last few days about online and offline championships with AI coming after release. As in breyzipp's thread, the following lines are only suggestions. Everybody should do what he or she enjoys.
I've primarily considered championships from 2016 because most non-historic cars feature this year. There are some exceptions if another year makes more sense. Tracks that aren't present in the game have been grayed out and replaced by my own suggestions. If there are different variants of a track, the used variant is written in parenthesis behind it. I've also been looking for the right cars used in the championships knowing that there is no option in Project Cars to choose individual cars from a class. But maybe, this feature will come later.
Each of you is welcome to discuss the list and make your own suggestions. I'll try to keep it up-to-date.

Add historic F1, World Sportscar Championship and TCR to the intro post.

@Tank621: I think the Snetterton 200 layout reflects the characteristics of the historic layout better.
