Just wondering if Project Cars 2 will require Intel AVX and SSE 4.2?

Or in other words, will users with a the original Nehalem series i5/i7 (lacking AVX) or users with a Core 2 Quad or AMD Phenom II CPU (lacking AVX + SSE 4.2) even be able to even launch the game? (Even if just for some hotlaps)

Obviously performance wouldn't be great, but is PC2 compiled with fallbacks for these technology's? I'm planning on getting a new CPU + Motherboard (to go with my 1070) but was hoping to hold out for Coffee Lake / 8600K.

The original specs for the WMD 'beta' listed the Core 2 Quad and Phenom II as meeting the minimum requirements, indicating these technologies were not required:

But I've heard that use of AVX was patched in during development, and the current/new minimum specs list CPU's which support both, so not sure if its actually now required. For anyone replying, please try to differentiate between an assumption, and a verified fact if possible.

Some other users have asked similar questions with no concrete answer:

AVX is not required, but it is supported.

And even better, it's automatically selected... So if your CPU supports AVX or NOT , then it will start the correct Version..

Thanks very much for the fast responses. The users with Nehalem will be relieved.

Any information on SSE 4.2 requirement? (Although I expect that shouldn't be an issue, I can't think of anything that doesn't need AVX that needs 4.2)

Cheers

So what's the purpose with AVX on pCARS 2?

So what's the purpose with AVX on pCARS 2?

It increases gaming performance. Most gains seen during development were between 4-8%. May not seem like much, but that's a huge gain for relatively low effort on the developers.

SEE/AVX are low-level CPU instruction extensions, they are there to make some operations faster, so its just a performance improvement thing.

Sometimes a game engine or referenced library might require some of the new instructions and not run/crash on a CPU that doesn't support them, but any 'properly' written/compiled program should be able to run without them, just not as quickly/efficiently.

TLDR; To make it run faster.

What about Intel Hyperthreading, specially on i7. Is there some some optimization for it enabled this time?, or as almost always will it be better to disable it?.

I also keep asking how many threads pCARS 2 utilise.

It utilised my 4C/8T pretty good. Never tested without HT though with my new CPU.
