Project CARS 2 FAQ and Tips

In addition to the Official FAQ (https://www.projectcarsgame.com/project-cars-2-faq/) this thread will serve as your first source of information about Slightly Mad Studio's latest racing game.

This post will be updated with new info as we deem appropriate. Feel free to discuss or suggest additions.

BASIC INFO

Project CARS 2, what is it?

Project CARS 2 is the second installment in the Project CARS motorsport franchise developed by Slightly Mad Studios in cooperation with 7 full-time real racing drivers, tyre manufacturers such as technical partner Pirelli and the help of the WMD community.

When will the game be released?

Project CARS 2 will be released on September 22, 2017 on PC (Windows), Playstation 4 and XBOX One.

I'm new to racing sims and I don't have a wheel. Is there a way to make this game easier for inexperienced gamepad users?

For gamepad players the game defaults to "Authentic" assists.
If you're having trouble with cars that don't have any you can set this to "All" in the options and activate ABS, Traction Control or Stability Control to your liking.
We recommend to use at least ABS and Traction Control on "Low" for a good experience.
If you're still having trouble you can set those to "High" and also enable Stability Control to improve car control.

Will my wheel be supported on PC/PS4/XBOX One?

Please check out the Official Wheel Compatibility List (https://www.projectcarsgame.com/project-cars-2-compatibility-list/).

Will I be able to import my PCARS 1 profile and/or car setups?

No, both features (profile/stat tracking and car setups) have been reworked and improved which makes them incompatible with their PCARS 1 counterparts.

[PS4/XB1] I just started the game and there's only one car and one track available. How do I unlock the other cars/tracks?

Your game is still installing. As soon as the installation is complete all the content and game modes will be accessible.
(It's possible that you have to restart the game for this)

GAMEPLAY

The "edit car setup" function is missing in the vehicle selection screen. Where can I find it?

Car setup editing is now done "in-session" at the track. Just load the session you want to drive and you'll be able to make your adjustments.

How does the traction control/TC slip setting in car setup work?

With the TC slider you can adjust how much wheel slip is allowed before TC will intervene.
The higher the slip value the less intrusive the TC will be. Lower values are generally safer but can slow you down.

I can't find the Online Championship mode. Where is it?

Online Championship mode will be unlocked in a post release update.

I want to organise multiplayer races or even an online league. Where can I find like minded players on this forum?

Tyre changes in pitstops
Make sure to set the right tyre change for the pitstop in the ICM (In-Car Menu), as 'automatic by weather' tyre choice does not apply to pitstops.

FORCE FEEDBACK AND WHEEL SETUP

How do calibrate my wheel correctly?

Turn your wheel completely to one side (100), confirm, now turn it to 90 rotation. The value that's showing should now be 900 (or whatever steering degree your wheel aloows) or very close to it. Confirm again.

Do you still need a degree in engineering to understand all available FFB options and are vehicle specific FFB settings still part of the car setup?

The FFB menus are much more user friendly now. There are 3 presets available that can be adjusted to your liking via 4 different sliders.
Vehicle specific FFB settings are not part of the car setup anymore.
Some advanced (global) FFB settings can be adjusted via the custom_FFB.txt file located in the Documents/Project CARS 2 folder (PC only).

How does the new FFB widget work?

The bars on the left are a signal histogram in 20% steps. Shows at a quick glance how much of the FFB signal range you are using. The last bar is red and signifies clipped signal (detail lost due to saturation). Seeing too much of the red bar is a sign you should turn down the FFB volume. A histogram heavy on the left two bars means it is safe to increase volume if you want a stronger feel from the FFB.

Logitech G920
The G920 defaults to Immersive. Please switch to Informative to mitigate the current FFB issue, until a fix is available.

Maybe you could post a link to the system requirements thread (http://forum.projectcarsgame.com/showthread.php?50724-Project-CARS-2-PC-System-Requirements) in the op?
People who've played the game have posted in there with info on their specs and settings used, that should be helpful for people looking for info on PC requirements.

Q: Triple Screen Setup: Is there an easy way to find my monitors' physical dimensions without manually measuring them?!

A: Use the NirSoft MonitorInfoView (http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/monitor_info_view.html) freeware tool. It reads the info directly from your monitor's EDID (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extended_Display_Identification_Data) block.

Apologies if this is a silly question, but to use trackIR I must launch in Steam VR mode. The problem I'm having is my Rift starts up when I do this (and the VR specific gfx settings get applied too). Do I have to physically disconnect my Rift from the PC each time I want to use trackIR?

Vehicle specific FFB settings are not part of the car setup anymore.
please explain why !

the different ffb of the cars is so huge that you cant have a setup that fits all cars
when you finally have setup a cars ffb and switch to an other car the whole circus of finding a sweet spot starts over again this is in my opinion a really annoying thing

ps sorry for the bad english hope you all get what i mean

What type of details are you referring to? Just tyre types in the game and what their differences?

Yes. Like are the track tyres on the vintage cars the same as modern cars? What is the track tyre equivalent to. When to use winter tyres vs ice? Why does my car default to wet when it's dry?
Also there seems to be more options in the differential settings. Is there any more info on this?

Hi, such an amazing game but i can't edit Custom Liveries since there is no unwrap in the "custom livery" directory :/ Only a white texture.
I tried to use unwraps from pCARS 1 but there is no Ferrari 488 GT3 in pCARS 1 so i can't edit this one.
Please coudl you release on your website these unwraps just like you did with pCARS 1 ?
thx =)

Hi all, I am new to PC2 and was looking how to quite a currently running championchip, e.g. I wanted to go from Kart to Formula Rookie... I did not find the option to quite the currently running championchip. Where do I find it?

Also there seems to be more options in the differential settings. Is there any more info on this?Tyres on the vintage road cars (I'm assuming you mean those?) are different from the modern ones overall. On them the Track tyre is probably closest to the Medium/P Zero Corsa/Nitto NT05 level tyre.

Always use Ice tyres for maximum grip when there's snow on the ground, at least once the next patch comes along. Winter tyres are essentially there for the same reason the Hard/P Zero/NT555 tyres are there for the summer, to give access to a more "normal" road legal winter tyre instead of the massively grippy rally spikes on the Ice tyres.

You shouldn't ever default to wet tyres when it's dry unless the forecast has rain coming along shortly.

Differentials are indeed much expanded in Project CARS 2, you can read about them more in their own thread here (http://forum.projectcarsgame.com/showthread.php?52783-Magic-inside!-Need-Help-With-Differentials).

ok thanks for the hint. since I don't wanna quite the whole career (I could be much further in the game) the only way is to to move through all the races and quite each race as soon as it started. then of course you loose the season but you can choose for another championchip.

just another questions as I was really struggeling today in Formula Rookie UK Championchip in "Knockhill International". There is hard corner just before the start/finish straight. Everytime I move into this corner it seems that I loose power in my car and it takes at least 3s until I get up to speed again. I tried to move into the corner in different angles but still it seems I loose power... I tried to move into the corner with 2nd or even 1st gear, no success. Not sure what I am doing wrong. Can someone give me a hint how to manage this corner in Knockhill International?

So, with my setup I haven't got room for my rig in its rightful position all the time :(
(With the rig, I use a G29 and a Frex Hshift+)

However - sometimes I just want to run a couple of laps, and might pull out a controller.

Does the game save my wheel settings in driver 1 if I make a new driver profile (a new career) just for controller use?

The game stores multiple control device setups within options (seperate from career). You should be able to swap between control methods as you please using either wheel or controller in career or single race, online, time trial workout impacting the other device.

I'm having a really hard time trying to figure this out, but if I were to buy the season pass, will that make me eligible for all future dlcs, or is it just limited to the 4 dlc packs and the bonus?

I'm just curious to know if the season pass (incl. motorsport dlc) and the japanese dlc bought separately will cover everything or if I will have to pay more money later down the line?

Good afternoon. First post here. Was hoping to receive information regarding Manufacturer Drives. The reason is simple; I just signed a contract on my first season of a new driver. Group A tier 4, using a 1991 Nissan Skyline GT-R. I have achieved manufacturer affinity after just my first weekend (1 hour practice, 30 minutes qualifying, 14 laps race Hockenheim). This seems pretty ridiculous. Is this a malfunction or have I accelerated my progress trough some function I am unaware of? It seems extremelly arcade-y to get affinity on just one weekend of a season, so I would like to know if this is normal or if there is a way to stop the affinity from farming so rapidly. Thanks.

As much as it reads as a complaint I am actually more confused than anything. I trust these devs to be more than motivated to make an excellent simulation from top to bottom, which is why going all Vaughn Gittin Jr and start making cars for Ford (which took him quite some time) just on a weekend as a plausible course of action seems more of a bug than a mechanic.

First of all amazing game, as much as i might get pissed about everything, the game is still amazing, and thanks for the info, the FAQ and all the infos, but here comes the big but. Iamnt a professional, i just play this for the fun of it, but there are some things i dont understand or havent figured out yet. For starters, how comes in the online multiplayer settings, ABS- on, ESP-on, but in the race, sometimes they are off, making it a bit difficult to drive, how does that happen. Secondly, i dont get how the points system for online racing works and why one gets more punished if for instance one gets into an accident, and third and most annoyingly, i try to drive as safely and properly as properly, i cant stand the guys or girls who drive like they are drunk, but why do i get points removed if someone crashes into me, why do i get punished if i leave a race because my car is totally totalled because of someone else, i mean this bothers me quite a bit, so maybe someone could explain this, i would really love to get some info
