View Full Version : What's your favourite Car/Track combo so far on PC2?

Benkid

I have a buddy of mine coming over to have a crack at PC2 on my Fanatec CSW V2 however because the games so big I have barely scratched the surface. I haven't had time to try many of the cars and tracks so I'm asking what people's recommendations would be to gain maximum "smiles per mile" seat time. Doesn't have to be the most complicated track or the fastest or greatest handling car. I'm talking great exhaust note, predictable handling, and all round absolute driving pleasure.

We spent a combined total of 9 days playing Forza Motorsport 6 last year around the Nurburgring so it shouldn't be hard to meet his expectations.

One combo that I really enjoyed is the Caterham around Knockhill in the community time trial but what's your favourite combo and why?

I find the Rallycross Lite on pretty much any Rallycross track is a blast. The full-on Rallycross cars can be fun too, but they're more of a handful and can be frustrating at times.

The Ligier LMP2 feels like gold just about anywhere. Sauber C9 at Le Mans is great, as is the 911 GT3 at Imola, or especially at Bannochbrae. Challenging, but beautiful course, and that car just grips the road like an octopus dipped in glue.

And speaking of the 911 GT3...I usually HATE racing at "not Monaco" (Azure)...hated it in every F1 game I've played, hated it in PCARS1...took the 911 GT3 for a few hotlaps there last night...and after 10 or 15 minutes, I realized...I was actually enjoying myself. Can't really explain why...I guess I'm always used to feeling like I'm fighting the car there, and I'm so preoccupied with keeping it out of the walls that I never really feel like I can settle in and concentrate on going fast.

I can only say that it's a testament to PCARS2's handling model that I actually feel (somewhat) confident in attacking a course, and now (somewhat) enjoy a track that I have traditionally always hated to drive. Lol, I know that doesn't exactly sound like a ringing endorsement, but believe me, it is. ;)

Ferrari 333sp at Bannochbrae. "Threading the needle" coming out through the town back onto the open road just never gets old. Bottoms out a bit on default set up in a couple of places but that's half the fun!

If I'm bored with chasing lap times elsewhere and just wanna drive for the sheer pleasure of it, that's my go to combo at the moment.

It looked interesting in some Chris Harris videos.
Never played a game with that track in it.
But, wow.
I've raced the XBow GT4 on it and it's great.
Also done a couple laps of the F333SP there.

Either Indycar around Long Beach or any car around Algave, man I just love that track!

Edit: Glad to see I’m not the only one giving Algave some love, the track has everything, low, medium and high speed corners. I recommend trying the Ferrari 333sp round there, opening that throttle up around the final corner is orgasmic.

I've only played one game that had it, and that was the little known (and I think underappreciated) Race Pro, back in like 2007 or 08, I believe it was. Totally forgot what a blast it was. Come to think of it, that game had a lot of awesome tracks that I'd never seen before, and some that I haven't seen since: Algarve, Oschersleben (was glad to see it again in PC1), Pau, Zandvoort, Macau (though it was REALLY tough...I could do without racing that particular one again...lol)

The Ford GT is really good wherever I have run it, not always the quickest but certainly the easiest to set up for me. Default is great and it dominates some tracks both in sheer numbers and quick times. So far it is the only car that is ahead of some PC1 GT3's that I am aware of. Of the new tracks I have run I am starting to like COTA Club, due to elevation(and probably me using bumper cam) and no braking markers some corners are virtually blind so repetition and faith are critical to improving times. The GT3's I have run so far are very close together here as well although the 650S at default is easy for me to spin.

Mini Rallyx at Greenwood kart reverse.

How did you set that up? I would love to try that, but I went into custom race today and couldn't seem to pick any kart tracks if I had a rallycross car selected.

Maybe I need to "trick" it by picking a kart first, then choosing the kart track, and then switching back to my car?

Actually there isn't! But the little differences makes the GTE so much nicer to drive for me.

Try the GTE. You can tune more parts of it so it fits the track better.

Ford Mustang RTR GT4 at Daytona Road Course. The car has a glorious exhaust note. It has the same HP rating as the Ford Mustang GT, so the top speed on that circuit won't be more than about 150mph when you have to start breaking for the infield part of the track. The handling of the car is somewhat forgiving. Also, you get to race on a high-banked oval and an infield road course on the same lap.

Today I discovered the beauty of the Group 5 Zakspeed Capri, man what a sound, the revs just keep on coming. The Ginetta Junior on any British track. It's the only car that for me (a really bad driver) that I can go as fast as I want and have fun. The car is slow enough to let me be crazy while still being in control. I like British tracks because they often have lots of elevation changes and long wide sweepers to either side.

That said, I wish they'd add BannochBrae as it would appear in the 60's. Replace all the track side cars with cars of that era.

Cheers!

I just had to ask because I read somewhere about how great the Caterham Seven 670 R was on the Knockhill Scotlabd track. This track/car combination blew me away. This really shows off PC2's detailed physics. In VR I can even hear which tire is about to let go because of this high pitched squeal that made me pause everything the first time to look around. Really cool!!

I love the Nordschleife so much that I rarely drive anything else but after the Knockhill suggestion I have to ask what is your best car/track experience here and or other sims?

Another suggestion is rF2's 917K on the Nordschleife, Spa historic or the Targa Florio is truly a magical sim moment for me as well. If I had to guess, SMS spent a lot of time driving these combinations before developing PC2.

Yeah, I remembered seeing it some time ago and found it on page 13 :p
Totally agree with you on the Caterham btw, that car is just so much fun on any track with lots of corners!

Nissan GTP-ZX @ Brands Hatch. So fast it's terrifying. Bonus points if you do in in the wet.

For me, in terms of recent racing cars it's the Ford GT GTE at pretty much any track <3 I loved Laguna Seca and would love Sebring.. ^~^

Cadwell park with something slow, like a ginetta g40 or a touring car. That track i find is similar too knockhill when it comes to textures/bumps/tight corners. Feels very authentic and alive.

edit: accidentally mixed oulton park with cadwell

LMP900 or GT1 at Le Mans with some slower class cars. It would ONly be better if you could run a 55 car grid.

Today I discovered the beauty of the Group 5 Zakspeed Capri, man what a sound, the revs just keep on coming.
Tried this car today. What a beast. Second gear just keeps on coming. I had a very hard time controlling it. This one will take time and discipline.

I think oulton park was lazer scanned along with knockhill which would explain the charachter the tracks have.

I would have to pick the Caterham at Ruapuna in NZ, full circuit and also the short circuit with the dipper, its my home towns track and I have driven well over 1000 track day laps there in the last 9 years in my own Lotus 7, the Caterham matched with a Fanatec CS 2.5 base, wheel and pedals is as close to the real thing that I just keep going back to it. Next track would be classic Hockenhiem in any Lotus from that era.

Laguna Seca with Group A or GTO class, its full of elevation, bumps, drops, straits to tight turns.

And all done while shifting through H shifter gears

A year or more ago in AC I downloaded cart and highway tractor mods and raced them together on the Nordschleife. It was a blast in VR with either one because the carts could just drive around the big trucks in the tight corners but you had to be careful not to get run over on the straights.:D

Spa Historic I like in the Honda 2&4... yes a concept car on a course that no longer exists but its quite a nice balance there.

Other than that:

AMG GT-R GT3 at Long Beach
BMW M6 GTE at Algarve

I hope you did this in VR, because I just did and it was absolutely lovely. I was just cruising around slowly, felt like a casual drive. Even tried to use my signal when switching lane, before realizing I wasn't in my own car lol.

Banobrache with the Jag E-Type, autumn at 6-7am, fog going into light clouds. So so so much fun.

Apologies if there's already a thread about this; I used the advanced search function with keywords and stumbled upon one back from 2015 that allowed me to post but didn't bump the thread up in the forums.

Anyways. I fell in love with the Radical RXC Turbo... what a monster of a vehicle. The sound of the engine and the turbo spooling gives me eargasms every time. Guys (and girls if there are any), take this beast around Donington Park GP, warm those tires & brakes up and start pushing this car - you'll be driving on a knife's edge. My most satisfying drive so far.

Post your favourite car/track combos!

My favourite car: Ligier JS P2 Honda (love the sound)
My favourite track with this car: COTA

The funny thing is, I hated cota especially the first sector. But I wanted to learn this track and now after some training I love this track :D

Haven't got around to any of the prototypes yet but I know I'm going to love em'. I'll make this combo one of the first that I try. I can relate to your outlook on COTA :p. It's a frustrating track at first when you're getting to grips with it and eventually you learn to love it.

Formula Renault 3.5 at Oulton Park.

"Believing" in the down-force throwing it into T2 leading onto the main straight and hoping it sticks, drafting other cars along the straight and hoping it sticks again through the kink, right foot squashed into the bulkhead before slamming the anchors on to take the carousel like next turn seeing how early you can get back on the power as you go squirreling out and up towards the chicane. That engine noise screaming at you an inch behind your ears as you go

Pure driving bliss

911 GT3 R on any of the following: Azure coast, California highway, Nordschleife. What a blast this car is! Can't say that about Porsche's road cars unfortunately: the gt3 rs and the 918 are all about oversteering :/

Toyota 86/GT-86(RHD or LHD respectively) on Dubai Club. trying to stay fast with overheated tyres on default setup is so satisfying (no stability control, of course. otherwise, it's not fun at all)
