Hello there,

I've found some information on how to deal with matte colors or chrome colors in the old thread :Vehicle-custom-liveries-How-to-FAQ

But i couldn't make it to work, not sure to really understand what needs to be done to have a mat effect on some parts of the car. May be an expert could detail the process a little more ?

Chrome and Matte are not currently supported via Custom Liveries in PCARS 2.

Ive seen some skins using matte already. So I don't see how it can cause a problem? Enlighten me.
(Not trying to be nagging or anything, just wondering.)

To do matte or chrome you need to edit fresnel layers which is not supported in custom skins. atm. Default skins can have this, probably that is what you've seen.

The cars that are in Both games can have the skins loaded with Fresnel and Spec maps in PCARS 1 for screenshots.

That must be how it is done as it is currently not doable in PCARS 2 as far as I am aware.

I was trying for Matte blue for the Redbull Formula X but had to settle for a slightly darker blue to mimic the effect.

I'm going to guess that's a screenshot from PCars1. Yiro tyres on the tyre is in white like PCars1 and not just black like PCars2.

i monitored "file open" processes with a process monitor. When selecting a custom livery, pCARS 2 does not try to search for and open other files than the xxx_livery.dds.
So it doesn't seem to be implemented currently.

This is because the vehiclespersistent.bff file that holds all the xml files for each car, each xml file only has a single line for the custom liveries and this line does the body skin that we create. In PCars1 there were lines for the spec and fres. Why leave this out?

all i could do w/o hacking /extracting a file was monitoring.
Why SMS changed the system? I don't know.
Could be, they kicked the additional system for custom liveries.
Internally they use metal shaders instead of fresnel, so no need for that.

Why Slightly Mad Studios did not make base colors like Chrome, Matt, Candy, Pearl, Pearl Diamond, Metallic, Crystal Ghost Pearl and Iridescent and in the future Fluorescent, Phosphorescent, Thermochrome, Holographic Flakes, UV and Marble/Crystal. Most of these colors were in NFS: U2/Carbone so what is the problem, just asking.

What you're asking for would imply the creation of a built-in livery editor. My guess is, they had more pressing priorities at hand, lacked time and resources. All we have to do is wait and hope we can customize liveries at the same level as in pC1 at some point in the future.

Could a dev please give us some words about future plans on this subject?

I really hope for the possibilities we had in PC1 at least.
