I've been thinking back and forth about this topic in the last few days and thought I might as well ask for your thoughts here, or maybe there is even one definitve answer. When I was kid I loved to play F1 Challenge 99-02, especially because there were soo many great mods for it. Now that PC2 has brought me back to proper Sim Racing with a wheel on PC, I started wondering about this topic again. Of course I know that games like AC or AMS still include mods nowadays, but I haven't tried those games (yet:p ), so I can't judge them.
Long story short, I wonder how moddable these games, or especially PC2, really can be. Especially with the huge step in car, tire and track+weather physics that PC2 has brought, is it even still feasible for modders to come up with a car that is detailed and accurate enough to at least come close to the original cars included in the game?

Because let's face it...with the physics in PC2, it's hard to think of ANY vehicle that wouldn't be awesome and interesting to try yourself out in. ;);)

Thinking of the last ProjectCars title I am sure we will get as many great mods for the new game than we got for the old one.:o At the end of this reply you find the so called "mod-file" from my Pcars 1. So you can imagine how many extra cars I installed by using Mods in combination with the tool JSGME. The best mods (my opinion) were made by
Machine Dojo Modding Team . But these guys are gone, which means the webside is down. Reason unknown,so far. I hope they come back because they provided high quality mods and liveries. But there have been no mods for new Tracks and weather. By the way, my copie of Pcars 1 takes 127 GB space (round about 50GB is the original without mods + DLC's). And not to be forgotten, changing Tires and Liveries (skins) was possible.

We're still waiting for SMS to give us info on it.

The intention of my reply wasn't meant to put someone under pressure. I am realy happy with the game so far. Just wanted to show how the possibilities had been for the old title. I used it as an example what might be.

Ha! I didn't even know there were mods for PC1 on PC! Unfortunately I ended up playing the first part on XBox...

I know. We already have new cars in the second game too, just SMS won't let us go public with them yet. Unfortunately we are in the dark until we know more

I think what SMS needs to understand is, that moddability of their game will only benefit the total lifespan of it. Although the game just released itīs very important to keep this in mind.
Also they need to understand that the people who are trying to mod this game must be the most loyal fans of their game ever because they invest lots of valuable free time, passion and sometimes money into this.
I deeply hope that SMS will open up for you guys just that much you need for modding.

We could easily release everything now, but this would also allow people who aren't us, to cheat and get DLC for free. We don't want this at all. So SMS could easily give us the best of both worlds. If they don't, we'll just release anyway after all patching is done. Another thing is how it affects DLC sales, which is just doesn't, unless we make the same cars as in the DLC, which we have no interest in doing. All the cars I am working on currently are scratch made too, some of them even fictional cars. So i really don't see any downsides.

Just a matter of waiting. We know what SMS are like.

Since I played the Need for Speed Shift series I know SMS. I loved the old games and the new one makes me feel like being a small kid playing with his favorite matchbox' . Seriously, I got most of the Vintage cars in Pcars2 as matchbox version. Some people would call me slightly (or even completly) mad because I bought the Collectors Edition. Already in July...

Understood. It‘s a natural thing that people always want more stuff, especially cars in the game since they miss their favourite car or whatever. Good to hear that you are not doing any cars of the dlc since that could be an understandable reason for SMS to avoid any modding efforts from the community. So again, I really hope that they open up to a point where it is possible to let,you guys mod the game in the best way.

Honestly at the moment I'd be more than happy if we could do just the spec, fres and tyre liveries.

Please.
