View Full Version : Your biggest surprise with this game?

For me the biggest and most positive surprise with this game is how well it handles gravel, loose dirt and snow, I.E the rallycross part of this game. I honestly thought it would be kinda gimmicky and not something I would really bother with. Oh boy how wrong I was. Gently balancing the rally cars sideways with the throttle is so much fun that it could be it's own game all together. After 130 hrs into mostly race cars it is so refreshing to switch over to the so many different types of races you can do.
Another thing that really surprised me in this game is the car selection. I mean I knew it was a pretty long list, but usually I tend to only drive a handful of cars in my sims. But in pcars 2 there are sooo many amazing cars and I keep finding new ones that I could spend another 100 hrs in. I've found a new love for vintage cars, and road cars. And rally cars, oh and vintage open wheelers. The more I explore this game the more I find to love. Anyways all praise from my end

How about you, what are the biggest surprises for you guys? Good or bad.

That's awesome! I'm sure it gives it a whole new life compared to the original Xbox one.

It really does! I'm so grateful with the time and effort they have spent to improve pretty much every aspect of the game for the X (an entire new build i believe) instead of just doing a simple texture update pack etc.

But yes i have so many ingame surprising moments, the first time i followed an AI car on a mostly dry track through a puddle of water and the spray blasted my windscreen with water droplets! That was a wow moment!

Noticing the extremely (impossibly) detailed tyre wrinkle physics was another,

Starting the car cold and debuging the camera to infront of the engine tempreture gauge to watch it slowly and realistically creep up to temperature was another,

Watching my hot tyres continue to pressurise when my car is stationery due to the heat soak from the brakes etc is another,

Oh man there are just to many wow moments.. alot of people sadly just dont realise what type of an insane piece of software this is i feel...

I'm still trying to understand if the enhancement patch we got was really the actual enhancement, how can it only be 400mb? I'm really hoping what some people believe is true about it just being a pre patch.

How poorly people use the ratings system, it seems fairly well implemented in the Safety rating at least but most servers are F U or unrated so I dont bother with MP here any more.

Dude, I had no idea you could do that. Just looked into it, that was really cool. Now i could actually properly look at the tires and see the flex and such. Very cool. Do you know if you can turn the camera and make it stay 90 degrees?

The physics and how in-depth tyre/track is modeled. The McLaren test driver video is what got my hype meter into redline and from that point, I regretted not buying into PC2 early access. I loathed wet track modelling in other sims (including PC1), it just felt like it was arbitrarily slipperier. PC2 feels like it gets it right. The tyres still bite until they don't when you push it too hard, and that snap feeling you get (especially in road cars I'm familiar with) when the tyres that were in slip, gain traction again.

I was concerned about the career mode having wet racing but now I look forward to a wet race more than a dry race. Hopefully the next patch zeroes in on getting the AI times right between dry and wet racing. If only that was fixed, I'd be a satisfied customer.

Fun thread, for me it was my first VR lap at willow springs in a Clio and entering turn 1 the sun punched through between the roof line rollcage creating a very authentic sun soaked and washed out view.

Then taking the old bmw DTM and flipping it, loosing the hood, and using my vr header to look closeup at all the detail in the engine compartment while I was upside down. Lots of detail in there you’ll normally never see.

My biggest surprise is the number of bugs this game had on release and still has, and how much worse it looks than Pcars 1 on the ps4.

On a positive note, I was surprised by how much better and more realistic the handling of the cars is in general, and the sheer depth of the experience offered by the game.

So now the consolers can see what the PC guys had, makes a difference having better hardware doesn't it ;-)

Yes 4 and 6 on the Numberpad to rotate the camera, W,S,D etc to move the camera around,

You can make some really cool onboards

Man how I'd love to try VR out on this

LT3 wet track is my biggest surprise with this game.
Also the new tires, the way they grip and slide. Ffb. Wonderful.

I know it may seem kind of superficial, but I absolutely love the official licences in the game, like Indycar and especially Pirelli World Challenge. Even Autosport for the news.

So many to choose. Noticing the stationary wipers vibrating on the Ginetta. Coming out of the cork screw at Laguna and and two Escorts RS1600’s enter the next turn side by side. By the time I get there one of them is spinning off and comes to rest facing the wrong way with its boot lid open!!!!

That too, in addition to LT3 which make tracks conditions so interesting every single lap

The better handeling of the cars. But to be honest I had to cry the first hour after seeing how bad the AA of Pcars2 is compared with Pcars1.. I really hope they can fix this..

It's only a little thing and insignificant really but I only noticed the other day that following the Ai in the rain I could see their wipers working through their back window . Little detail I know but I thought it was cool

I was shocked the first time I hit a puddle. Kink at the back straight, Nur GP in a 488.

I was worried my PS4 + old plasma TV wouldn't be able to show the puddles well enough either but wow the track and puddle detail is beautiful.
Also le Mans wet, when you're going too fast to dodge the puddles but see them coming. All you have time for is to pucker up and brace yourself...

mine is linked to the purchase of the X1X and its the importance of fps, its literally (and figuratively) a game changer!

been sim racing for 18 months and the past couple of days have been the most enjoyable... i've been in races where i started in pole, dropped right down the order to twenty something and i've still been compelled to punch the air on how good the racing feels!

now another surprise (and i really wasn't expecting this) is the rendering of ffb and how it compares to AC... the balance is starting to tip in favour of Pc2!... now don't get me wrong AC feels amazing but i noticed that compared to Pc2 a lot of their cars feel very similar where as the cars i've been driving on Pc2 feel very different and (now i know which ones to avoid) equally fun to drive.

Another thing!... the depth and breadth of Pc2. its getting on for a couple of months now and (for example) i've only just now had my first rallycross races... and last night i raced an amazing track completely new to me (Mojave Boa Ascent) and just last weekend i discovered the session and race settings where you can select various times of day or times of year and the incredible facility to select 4 different weather slots to run concurrent with your race, one bleeding seamlessly into another making for a infinite variety of situations!... you definitely don't get that in AC (thats the console version before our PC cousins chime in)
Actually we as console sim racers are lucky to have 2 great titles in much the same way as we got 2 great consoles competing for our affection.
