View Full Version : Suggestions for a classic racing server

I'm going to be testing the waters for the first time tonight and figured I'd ask for some pointers on the do's and don't of hosting a good event.

I'll start with what I'd like to do:

Peer to peer
Multi-class Group 5/Group 6
Circuit of the Americas/Watkins Glen
Ai set to fill out the rest of the field Limited/no Ai
Full Performance impacting damage on/Fuel consumption on/Tire wear on/Manual on/Authentic assists on
Random failures off (or on?)
20-25 10-15Laps
16:00 x15 time progression
Start of race set to clear then a chance for random weather
All rules on
Safety Rating F1000 (SR Will increase as my own rating increases)

This is just something I came up with after reading the forums and seeing what was already running in the servers list translated into class's that I really enjoy racing in.

Does this seem like an event that people would join or should I change a few things?

not too many folks like AI in their racing..

make sure you plan on peer to peer as dedicated is really buggy at the moment.

i wouldn't touch it because of the U ranking.. sorry no offense.

calling U a safety rating is an oxymoron. lol

No offense taken :p

I haven't done any online racing yet so it's one of those "ya gotta start somewhere" sort of deals lol

In that case I'll pull the ai from the mix though.

everything else looks ok, but 20-25 laps is quite alot for a first race in a series or whatever. i'd limit it to 20-30 mins max to get started.

also be prepared for everyone to say they'll be there, and nobody shows up. it's kinda like being in a band.

Yep, I hung out in my lobby for about 20ish minutes before deciding I wanted to race tonight not sit around hoping :beaten:

Did good in my first GT3 race around Daytona though and my rank went up a bit even after the disaster race that followed lol

That was a misjudgment on my part. I did a test run against ai at 20 laps and it was definitely too long; I just wanted a race long enough to justify a pitstop.

i have a 3 race event coming up friday if you're looking..

Let's keep it going with another event this friday the 9th in Pcars2

we'll do three races with the following combinations:

GT1 Class @ Donnington park
WRX Class @ Circuit of the Americas National
Vintage Prototype B Class @ Spa Historic Night into Day transition!!

All races will be 15 minute qualy, 15 minute race.
Ranking is on
rules are on, tire, fuel and realisitic driving aids are also on.

I'll likely keep track limits off as it wasn't too big an issue last time, and the in-game system is terrible at enforcement.
Lobby will be B safety rated, but i can invite you if you don't meet the requirements.
Lobby name will be: CSR Friday Racing

Don't forget to join the Discord channel !!

I'd be interested in joining, what time will the lobby be up?

Turn ON everything that can help you keep responsible players in you server. My advice, penalties ON even on pit exit, ghosted vehicles ON, full damage ON, manual gears ON, Random failures off are not so important and is subjective, fuel and tire ON...

About manual gears, by not requiring manual gears you are encouraging less experienced players to play, or those who are not even to change speeds and think that it is always pedal to the metal without being able to make serious reductions.

Usually, I keep 1 or 2 AI for fun. Sometimes more, depend of circumstances.
Then, do not demoralize and patience :)

not a fan of full damage for casual racing

performance impacting is a good compromise

Yes, is a good compromise, not for less!

^ both good points, thank you.

I take it performance impacting damage wont rip wheels off but will jack up toe and camber angles?

it will always allow a trip to the pits but still punishes contact
