View Full Version : Can we fix the grass?

I know, I know, it is not the major issue. But can we fix the grass grip?

Everytime the car goes off track, in the green, it is quite messy to get back on track. When in the green, while trying to get back on track, even a minor pressure of the throttle pedal (low RPM) can easily lead the car to spin, and that is not that credible (IMHO).

I understand that the grass provides poor grip, but beneath it the terrain should provide some kind of support to traction.

Maybe the intention was to penalized the "mistakes" and to incentivate a clean driving, but I think we went a bit too far.

have you ever driven on grass, with slick tires?

I love driving in the grass! It's like once I go off the road into the grass it's instant IRACING! Seriously though.. the grass is ice. You spin and spin and spin wheeeeeee!

I have a hard enough time with my ride on lawn mower in wet grass on slippery slopes, plus the brakes hardly work on it.

I'm sure i read from Ian or someone that the grass was exaggerated a little bit as there was a particular thing that was hard to simulate the difficulty of so that was the penalty. I know what you are saying but if you just take it easy on the throttle its not too bad

No, but I imagine it would be very difficult in a high performance 500bhp car on slicks .
I normally put the car in a higher gear to gain a little more traction without spinning the wheels up and try that little bit harder not to end up in there again .....:0

I think the grip level on grass is good as it is now :) IIRC, it's been way more slippery at a time during development...now that's been driving on ice! :D

Road America?

Yea. Ended up that practice session with every ai in there, except for two in the pits missing wheels and another one on track trying to drive to the pits with a missing wheel.

The really cool thing was, it really showed off live track. The dirt on the track was building up lap after lap as they tried to get back on and then being spread around the rest of that section.

I haven't checked yet, but I think this might be fixed in the latest patch since there was an item about improving ai pathfinding off-track.

Yeah, that area eats AI. I did a long multiclass race and several LMP1 cars ended up sitting in that area by the end of the race. I’m not sure if that was after patch 4 either. Gives me a good excuse to test it tonight lol

No.
But I've driven cars enough to say that a 1Ton car should not spin at all at 20 km/h. So please.

put slicks on a real car and go give it a shot.

It's to keep guys from flying through the grass and back on track. Something I can say is not a issue in pcars 2. Issues with track re-entry on the first game we're big problem. Now cars come back on track much slower and under control. Just use more throttle control on the grass. Be patient, which you should be when off and coming back in. This was intentional by sms.

or this one - harder to tell real from games as the years go by . I thought though it was Brazil where at least 6 cars came off , aquaplaning, and Hamilton got a crane back to continue..theres an idea for SMS, a crane option.

The grass doesn't need fixing , as stated previously , it acts as a deterrent , and should punish your mistakes .

And unlike PCARS1, the AI are at least slowed down if they get onto the grass too.

I don't want to pick on the game more than necessary, but that looked hilarious (in a good way) almost artistic,

but the grass seems fine (slippery, unforgiving, etc.) and I don't recall ever having a problem with it myself.
