So, whenever you turn damage off, in the UI the damage indicators turn grey, including the Engine icon. However, this can be misleading, because you can have mechanical failure on at the same time. This will mean if you overrev your car, or cause it to overheat due to set up, you will damage your engine. So eventually it will blow.

But you won't know it because the UI will show the engine icon as grey and the damage % at zero. If damage was on, it would show it go from green to red and the % number climb until it blows. So you'll be driving along thinking everything's honkydory when all of a sudden your engine goes kaput. A bit of a buzzkill.

So, in the case the damage = off but mech failure = on, the engine icon oughta stay green so we can see the damage happening. (off topic - I'd recommend everyone keep mech failure On because it can be an exploit by people closing their radiators and overreving their engines)

Also, when damage is set to Visual Only, it'll be possible for your wings to fall off, and you WILL lose downforce. Not knowing that your wing fell off because the damage icon is greyed out and it all says 0% while in reality your rear wing fell of before you got to Eau Rouge, well, it makes for a nasty surprise. In these instances, the solution would be for downforce to not go away if damage is set to Visual Only.

Thoughts?

Oh, just had another thought.... the "Damage" option should be renamed to "Collission Damage". This way people will know you can still damage your engine by other means other than by slamming your car against the wall.
