Everyone who wants to go faster should watch this.

This is a great video on not only going faster, but has some setup info and really shows a how a proper race is done and when and when not to pass. There is nothing like real training, but this does a excellent job there is also a accompanying book that is available through Amazon that's more comprehensive that has been in my library for years.

It's not my upload, but I hope this helps someone Skip Barber's Going Faster

Here is the link to the book if anyone leaning more. There are other racing books out there as well like Ross Bentley's Speed Secrets that are using to applying to sim racing.

    Wow! thanks for the vid!

Now thinking about a request for devs, wouldn't it be wonderful if there was a track location, could even be fictional, where you could just test the car, play with its settings etc. Diving around in circles to determin a perfect balance, tyres etc...

Although I see where you are coming from, it wouldn't really help. Every track is different and even the same track is different from day to day. Temperature, wind and in particular humidity changes the profile completely.
Then you also have the car that will behave differently depending on the circumstances. When you do a hot lap in TT, you only have a little fuel that drastically changes the weight and therefor the handling. In full race config
you would have lets say 10 times as much fuel onboard which again changes the driving profile.

My point is, even if you would set up your car perfectly on such a track, it would be wasted time when you tried it on a "real" one.

This is cool! I also do a little series in the game called Race Control that teaches similar principles but in much more concise episodic form, here's a link for anyone interested

iRacing have some good tutorials, despite it being targeted at their own iRacing sim, a lot of the disciplines mentioned are relevant no matter the game/sim.

I stumbled upon this video, over @Reddit, and it's simply excellent.

Never heard about Skip Barber before this, but he's a superb teacher. You immediately sense that strong feeling of not wanting to let him down. And I'm 52 years old...

Having never been taught to drive a race car properly before, I personally realised what's happening when you turn into the corner too early. After almost 20 years of computer generated racing, I still found it a little safer to turn in, earlier better than late. Wrong! That assumption has cost me a few seconds here and there! And thank You Mr. Barber.

If you haven't seen the video yet, it's 1.5 hours of your racing career very well spent.

Question: Does anybody know any track that has a skid pad for balancing the car?

Btw. The classic style of the video (and the moustache) goes perfectly with the Zackspeed Capri.
