Open Letter To The Frustrated Ones

Keyboard warriors...please play nice. I fully understand why people are frustrated by some of PCars shortcomings. You spent your hard earned money on a broken game/you wasted your time. Every single argument is the same. Time is valuable. My guess is you spent exactly 5 min waiting for your Xbox to say "Ready To Start" and you fired off ready to rip around the Nurburgring, only to find out you can't until the game is finished installing. So you posted a thread about it. Then you found out once it installed that your controller didn't work properly, so you posted another thread about that too. Then some other guys had some issues you assumed you would also have...so you hopped on the bandwagon and have completely blown away any single thread that had anything to do with non-issues. You've spent no real "time" with this game, and definitely haven't spent any time ACTUALLY READING some of the fixes/workarounds that are posted daily on this forum.

There is no doubt the game has faults. Teething problems if you will. But did you really spend your last $60 on PCars? Was that literally the last $60 you had to your name? Hopefully not. You CHOSE to spend the money on a brand new game from a small production team/studio that is doing something brand new. This game IS playable for 99% of the people who bought it. Look at the leaderboards. Just because you aren't as good at it as you were in Forza doesn't mean it's crap. Feel free to post threads about new glitches/issues, but overwhelming the forum with the SAME. THING. OVER. AND. OVER. will not fix it any sooner. It's like pressing an elevator button 1000 times because that'll "hurry it up." I've not EVER seen more developer/studio involvement, especially on the forums, than I have with PCars. Many of us went through these same woes with FM5 and it's bugs...we barely heard a word from T10 (still to this day). These guys post on here daily! They care! It's amazing! THERE ARE PATCH NOTES!

Go try and return your "broken" game if you want. I wish you the best. You weren't the type of person we wanted to race with anyway most likely. Although you could wait, I don't know, maybe more than a week into it and give it another chance. I mean...you did chose to spend your money on it. They'll fix it. You'll be ok. PCars hasn't taken the last week or two of your life away. You can fully function as a human being without a fully functional Project Cars.

Thank you to the WMD/SMS guys/girls for sticking it out, dealing with the hate, and staying positive. You've got more people standing behind you than you probably realize. It's a great game, it will only get better with time...like literally every other video game (except Madden). Great job.

Couldn't resist this...I have actually spent some time in the game. 56 hours to be precise. I did exactly what you said. I jumped in a powerful car, turned off all assists and slammed into the wall...however, from there I adjusted the game and it's settings to suit my ability. Over time I am increasing the difficulty to match my improved skill. I had controller issues, as many have. But rather than complain about the, frankly bizarre decision to not include any information on what does what, I plugged away at it for the best part of a day. Once satisfied that I understood the fundamentals, I posted a guide on these very forums (you may have seen it?).

In general, the game offers some of the very best features in any racing game to date. The grass is exceptional and makes you question why everyone has gotten it so wrong until now. The weather effects are stunning and genuinely have an effect in your ability to race. The engine noises are second to none. The helmet cam view, as done here, will likely feature in every racing game in the future. The tracklist is fantastic and likely to expand further. There's a lot to like.

Despite this, the game has clearly been shipped in an (at best) unoptomised state. Let's take my latest career race as an example...it's an endurance race around Bathurst. I have a minimum of 2 hours racing. This would be great, but there are 30 cars on track, variable weather, and it's Bathurst, with panoramic views, many difficult braking zones and tight turns. All these things cause the frame rate to drop to a level where I don't know if I'm 20ft or 50ft away from my braking zone. So I make mistakes through no fault of my own. Then, when I try to correct my mistakes at low speed, my car twitches all over the place because my controller sensitivity cannot go any lower. In the rain, these issues are amplified tenfold. More so, because the AI appears unaffected by rain?! Turning, what would be a difficult, yet enjoyable experience into an impossible nightmare. This comes after four races in the completely broken Ford Escort, which will flip over if you so much as scape another car...and yet I still plug away.

I would spend time in multiplayer, at least until the controller issues are fixed...and I have. 11 hours to date. Mainly with friends, where I've mostly enjoyed the experience, despite connection issues, sound glitches, chat issues, party issues etc etc. Take the online experience into a public lobby however and it's a waste of time. When searching for a game, I've been told I'm disconnected from Xbox Live, when I'm not. I've been left hanging there. I've been told the game is full, or no longer exists. I've even sat so long that the title sequence has started playing again?! When I do find a game, it's usually set up to favour the host in someway, or it's a half hour of qualifying and a couple of laps. Or it's in cars that require me to completely change my controller settings to use...and yet I persevere.

In other games, I've spent hours...even days, tweaking car setups and setting lap times in time trials. I can't use my own setup in PCars time trial. Even if I could, the disparity between cars in each category renders 90% of the, already small car catalogue completely useless. Which is a moot point, because unless you are, as the achievement states, 'the 5%' then you have no incentive to improve your times because there are no friends leaderboards present...still I persist.

There are many many more issues with the game. Not game breakers, but they are so abundant that you're faced with problems on an almost continuous basis. To call the many problems, that thousands of people are experiencing, "teething problems" shows a complete lack of understanding and knowledge on your part. Yes the game is playable. Assassins Creed: Black Flag was also 'playable' but there were ships floating around in the sky. Is it fixed now? Mostly. Is anyone still playing it? No. Which is the whole point. Just how long do think it'll take to fix this game? How long are people gonna stick around. I'd guess it'll take at least 2-3 months just to have the cars handling as intended. By that I mean controller fixed, car physics fixed, AI fixed, no graphical slowdown. Probably take the same again for multiplayer to get an overhaul and work as it should. By then the community will already be split by those who have DLC and those who don't. Forza 6 will be nearing release and most people will have jumped onto the next new thing. It's just how things are.

I think what causes so many people to vent their frustrations on these forums is, they...like you...and like me, can see the potential in this game. If nobody cared, then the forums would be empty. We're all in the same boat. We bought a game that looked good...most of us can see that it has the potential to live up to that promise...but at present, it's a long way off for most.

I'm topping leaderboards. The game is still sub-standard. I'm not trying to reciprocate the same posts, but every time I read something that just isn't true, I'm going to counter with a dose of reality. Almost every post I have read in regards to problems with the game, lead me to believe that people aren't pissed off or disappointed because they aren't getting top lap times, but that they cannot believe that such a rough copy of a game made it to market.

I love racing, cars and motor sports in general, so much, that even with all of its flaws, I am rooting for this game to succeed. We need a game like this to succeed. The market is saturated with arcade and simcade driving games and SMS has a HUGE opportunity to pioneer a segment of the market that is virtually nonexistent.

Please believe I want this game to be awesome.

I think is useless to post hate or anti hate threads. And hate is very strong word. It's now time to come down and not opening new fronts.

All issues aside for this game. It is a stunning game visually and physics based. I use a controller and I can deal with the twitchy steering. I can happily play this game like many others with a couple of tweeks to the controller. I am rooting for this game as well. Turn10 has had its grip on the racing genre on Xbox for too long.

Again, the sentiments are great, we love that you love the game and recognise that it's not perfect but getting there etc..

But can we please not use such inflammatory headline titles ? Pretty please ? With a cherry on top

    IMO

This forum is supposed to be an open forum, for people to maybe; help each other, help the devs with suggestions and bug reporting, for some its a place to celebrate the game and for many its a place they can vent their frustration/anger, feeling it is the most likely place they will be heard.

I agree that getting aggressive and attacking others/including the devs is wrong. Most feel this is the place to vent as most of the media surrounding this game is positive and not one media outlet I have seen has warned that the game is fundamentally broken on the Xbox one or has a large missing feature available on other systems.

If it was released by for example by Ubisoft (Like the 'buggy' unity when that released) then maybe we would have seen a larger backlash but because its a smaller developer and has a mass of backers that will profit from the success of this game not a bad word can be said about it, not even here on the games 'open' forum.

As for the game i will play it and continue playing it after the patch arrives on XB1 yes they are smaller developer and i do hope they have every success but saying they are a smaller developer is not excuse they still took my full £40 which is the same i would have to pay for a AAA Title and i would be just as mad if that was as buggy or unplayable.
