Slightly off-topic but a question to TM shifter owners: Is it possible to restrict the gearstick positions available, e.g. when simulating a box with 4-forward gears and reverse? I'm tempted to buy a shifter but my reservation is I'd make a lot of wrong shifts if all 8 positions of the shifter are possible to engage.
The quick answer is that there is no inbuilt facility to do what you want there. But, using an old debit card i blanked off the 7th gear slot as I have no use for it. I only hooked 7th a couple of times in gameplay early on but it was enough to piss me off. In truth, once you get used to he shifter you vert rarely miss what you are aiming for.

For anyone wanting rid of seventh though, all i did was remove the H plate, held an old debit card (actually it was a Game card, as i doubt i will ever buy anything from the overpriced sods again), anyway, held the card in place behind the plate, and marked the holes where the shifter plates right side bolts go through. Heated a small screw to melt small holes through the card (just big enough for plate bolts). Then threaded the bolts through, then from top, marked where i wanted to cut it to blank gear 7, while from underneath, marked the recess point of the H plate so the plastic fit snug. Finally cut it where it was marked and put the plate and plastic back on the shifter.

I made that sound harder than it was, funny how describing something gets complicated. Simple version, use an old plastic bank card to blank what you dont want. Logically, seventh was the only bad one to me, any others would be a bit daft, unless all you want to do is drive a ford escort mark one forever.

Lol, i was wondering how long that would take

Its the only abberation. Kind of wish it was in there now though, actually own one so thought it was worth a laugh (which is what i thought when i bought it too). Genuinely is a paddle shift though, just for reference. Sorry if my sense of humour caused any confusion.

Thats a good idea but if you go to TM support site and plug in your shift in calibration page you can fine tune your shift points and block gears and it will remember in your shift memorey ,but then you cant use it for cars that have 7 speeds

To use the stick with every car you would need to set the shifter to sequential mode (thats the actual stick, not a settings config), but thats something i dont see myself ever doing. I hope at some point project cars gets an update that will allow the stick to be used as a manual box on a sequential car, even if the ps4 has to downshift to the appropriate gear through others (as in fifth to third), not real perhaps in terms of real world gearbox controls, but a nice nod to shifter users in gameplay terms.
cool... so paddles are always on... and H shift will only work on H shift cars that's the way i read it and to be honest that's what i like the sound of

I have question if i turn off auto clutch in game settings so i can use the H shifter but then jump in a car that doesnt have H shifter and have to use the paddles will the auto clutch reengage and work or would i have to use the clutch ? I tried using the clutch and paddle shifters and it just feels wrong.

Wouldnt stop accidental selection of a non gear though. And if you really need seventh (on ps4 at least) you can paddle shift it up. The physical block was to stop my accidental seventh selection when going for fifth, which i did far too many times early on. Blocking gears via software seems a bit backward if the gates still open. Dont get me wrong, not saying the block is perfect, but so far i havent needed a seventh gear that i have noticed so no loss to me.

You can map so 5+7 are only 5 same as you did with the card
